Approximately how long did you have wait to hear back from insurance with a denial or approval? How far out was your surgery scheduled after approval?

Were you approved? How long did it take to hear back from insurance with a response?

I am trying to quit smoking after 12 years. My surgeon requires you to quit a minimum of 6 weeks prior to surgery. His nurse suggested I speak with my PCP about prescription aids. So far, from what I've read, chantix seems to have a higher success rate than Patches, gum ect.... Have you taken chantix? If so, what were the side effects you experienced? How long did you take chantix? Did it work for you? If so, how long have you been a non smoker? Even if you haven't tried chantix I would love to hear any and all tips on how you kicked the habit. I went to one appointment at the bariatrics center after referral from my PCP. At that appointment they submitted paperwork for an approval for the weight loss surgery. They put me on the books for next month and march for blood work, dietician, everything that they require etc.... everything I've read, people did their requirements first then the doctor/surgeon sent in the insurance request. So if insurance approves then what? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

I haven't met with the surgeon yet. Just the nurse and coordinator at the bariatrics center. We are limbo right now waiting two weeks to hear back from insurance. I seriously don't get it. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

I was sorta, kinda, maybe wondering if there are any cornhuskers out there that are at the beginning stages of everything? I'd love to find someone to go through this with step by step. I've gone to my initial consultation and now I await the dreaded 3 weeks to hear back from insurance for a decision. They did put me on the books for my 3 hour block appointments late February and blood work in march. And what the hell, I suppose you Iowans are welcomed as well Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Did you have any comorbid conditions when you were approved by the insurance company? Or were you able to get approved with just your BMI alone? All of my blood work came back good. They said I am healthy other than my weight, obviously. I've been reading up and most everything said you must have at least one comorbid condition, for most insurances to approve bariatrics surgery. I met with the bariatrics center on Tuesday and now we wait 2-3 weeks for insurance to come back with a answer and I am crazy nervous since I am "healthy".
