what is your ht/wt and clothing size?

I am 5' 4". My highest weight was 280# a few years ago. My weight when deciding on surgery was 256# and I wrote a 22 pants and 2-3 x shirts. I am 8 weeks out. I am at 198# My pants size is 20, and still 2x in shirts butI did get rid of alot of my shirts that seemed baggy and feel better in shirts that conform to my waist a little better. Yesterday I noticed at work I could feel my scrub pants sagging in the but area and I know I've lost a bra cup lol oh and I'm starting to get little bat wings so hopefullyI can tone those at the gym. But I love laying in bed and being able to feel my hip bones. I still fit I my dresses but I feel they lay more flattering to my figure. I'm so happy I decided to have this surgery and with the lifestyle changes I'd made prior I knew I was ready to commit to the changes needed.

    3 days post surgery

What kind of pain are you having and how far out are you? If it's gas pain and you're early out walking should help. If it's just painful sipping early out you kinda have to endure it for a bit but it'll get better. Are you feeling better and over doing things, you may need to rest a little more. I also would supplement liquid Tylenol between my rx pain med early on to help.
  3. This is similar to the sample menu I was given. I understand it's a good concept but I know my dietician wanted to to start eating that way at 3 weeks. I am 8 weeks out and I have to wait at least any hour after I eat to be able to drink or I can feel it. Then I am finally able to drink about 6 oz at a time, but then I have to wait at least a half hr before I can drink more. On the days I work its hard sometimes to even get a lunch break sometimes. I do 12 hr shifts, unfortunately we've been understaffed for over a year now making it worse. But I do have to eat multiple times a day to get enough protein. Yesterday I had 2 eggs before I left for work at 6 am. While at work anytime I went to the back to grab something for a patient I passed the break room, so I stop and drink some water. Around 10 am I ate a string cheese. At 1 pm I ate a 20 gm protein bar for lunch. At 5:30 I had a Greek yogurt. When I got home at 8:30 I had 2 oz of chicken for dinner. During the day I was able to get in about 36 oz of fluid and 77 gm of protein. Ideally I shouldn't be eating dinner that late, and yes I should get more fluid in. But I feel for working on a busy floor at the hospital I did pretty good and there's no way I could've done it without snacks in between meals. I haven't gotten to the point where I'm able to add in vegetables yet though bc I get full off the protein but I know it will come in time. At home I can do a little better without the time constraints of work.
  4. I am super excited. The first time in over 16 years I am finally under 200#. This was my first mini goal. I've still got a ways to go but I'm happy with this today. 198# Yay
  5. I about die when I have to work 3 12's in a row. There's no way you could get me to do 14, I found after 2 extra shifts a week the extra just goes to taxes anyway so its not worth it. Good luck!
  6. while it doesn't help with the post op gas some people do have gas pains once they begin passing gas and it can help for that.

    Post op high blood pressure

I had a caffeine withdraw headache for a few days post op. I agree, have her tale the pain meds. I took them regularly for the first few days then alternated with liquid Tylenol if the pain was mild.
  8. I found that adding a sauce to chicken gives me more variety. Today I used Korma simmer sauce its "a creamy yellow curry sauce made with a variety of mild spices and coconut." I just poured it on top of the chicken and baked in the oven. It was really good.

    Sandwich

I had a bit wrapped in lettuce instead of bread pre op and it was so good. I've thought a bit trying it but I'm scared it'll hurt, I haven't tried lettuce yet, it'll probably feel better than meat though I'm thinking. I'm 7 weeks. Although, I had a protein bar with 20 gm protein for lunch today and it was filling but satisfying. Although like 280 calories so it would need to be a meal not a snack. But it laid nicely.

    Foods you no longer enjoy

So far I'm able to eat anything but finds that sweets aren't as satisfying anymore, not that I'm jumping on that bandwagon this soon but like my husband wanted ice cream did I got one scoop of frozen yogurt and it was like ehhh. Wasn't worth my calorie intake. I used to be a carb and sweets gal. My new thing now is, when you get to the cheese center of your danish I'll take a little bite. Once again not planning on making this a habit but sometimes it's hard to sit and watch everyone else eat it but I know that I didn't have this surgery to eat desserts all day lol.

    Food issues

Oh wow. I'm just a little ahead of you. Surgery May 31. I wonder if your surgeon doesn't want to give you anything maybe you could call your primary care and ask them to call in a prescription for something for you. I took the liquid zofran every 6 to 8 hrs for the first few weeks I was home. It really helped me.

    Food issues

PS I was eyeing up the nuts in the grocery store but not ready yet and one day I nibbled the soft inside part of a pizza crust 🤣. I know it's crazy but sometimes it just takes a little taste to make you feel better after eating only protein for days on end.

    Food issues

I was having issues with that for a bit after surgery. I just didn't want to eat and even thinking about taking my pills in the morning made my stomach queasy. I just stick with food that had little taste such as vanilla yogurt, took my zofran and changed my multi vitamin bc that made me nauseated. Eventually I felt better. Now I haven't had any nausea but can't wait to be able to stop the omeprazole. He said 3 mos on it. I ate bc I knew I had to. I hope it goes away soon for you, but I would take the nausea med and eat something mild, I figure there was a reason they gave me like 6 bottles of liquid zofran in my prescription before surgery.

    Exercise suggestions with bad knees

Unfortunately I work 12 + hr shifts on a busy medical surgical floor as a nurse. I have good shoes and compression socks. The problem then turns into standing at the bedside then standing at the med cart etc. So I know what you mean about the standing. Hopefully the weight will be off before I know it and will help.
  16. I'm cleared to go to the gym and was told to incorporate strength training and try to go an hour a day 5 days a week. I'm mentally ready. I've had arthritis in my knees for 20 years. Since I can no longer take NSAID's its been bad. I'm in the process of getting gel injections in my left knee which was always worse, so hoping that'll help, I get my second of 5 injections today and go back once a week until they're done. My "good knee" had been bad recently. Yesterday was my first day back to worse and after a few hrs on my feet was actually hobbling the rest of the day. I'm tossing and turning waking up at night in pain. I'm going to talk to my ortho doc today at my appointment. However meantime wondering for those with similar problems what gym equipment doesn't cause you more pain? I don't want to wait until feel better and know with arthritis if you're not moving you'll get stiff. I know water exercises are good but I joined a cheaper gym that does not have a pool shui that's not an option. Thanks for your suggestions.

    Exercise suggestions with bad knees

I was on no big for a couple years prior to surgery and the surgeons office told me it was an NSAID and I had to stop it 2 weeks prior to surgery and not take it anymore. I just took their word for it and stopped. It really helped me. Didn't take pain completely away but I want spasming and throbbing all night long. I'm going to have to ask about that then. Unfortunately the steroid injection did nothing for me. I had a nerve block the day before surgery bc he wanted to make sure I could comfortably walk post op, amazing I had not pain for 3 weeks, but now here I am. I did go through physical therapy also before surgery and they gave me exercises to help stretch and strengthen my gluteal muscles. My physical therapist have me his business card and said to call if of like you schedule more sessions after surgery, they're located upstairs from my ortho doc's office. I absolutely don't want narcotics, I'm sensitive to pain meds. I have arthritis in my spine and last summer a flare up pinched off a nerve in my neck and I had horrific nerve pain in my arm. I thought for sure I tore a muscle. Anyway I was on Gabapentin and everyday I felt foggy. I ended up having to take it all at night so I could function better at work. I swear since I've been off of it my mind is so much clearer. Thanks for the advice.

    Incision

I felt the same thing. Couldn't lay on my side for awhile it felt like it was pulling inside. Then one day I folded half a bakery of laundry that was on the floor in front of me on the couch. The use of muscles from bending over, I was sore for about 2 weeks after, so be mindful of what you're doing. After that I'd sit on the side of my bed with the laundry basket next you me.

    Bad breath?

maybe anesthesia breath. I've had patients post op with horrible breath from the anesthesia. Were you doing deep breathing exercises to open up your lungs? I get an occasional metallic taste on the sides of my tongue for no reason. Have no idea what that's all about.

Old clothes? What did you do?

I always donate mine and the kids. I feel like if I can bless someone else it will come back to me in return and this weight loss is definitely a blessing.
