    Coughing up Blood

I did my second day in the hospital, I was coughing up bright red blood into the tissues, it was from the intubation.
  2. If you're on pain meds they can relax you enough to lower your heart rate. I would say the only thing you can do to prevent blood clots is walk, he'll pumps while sitting of need be, if you're in a recliner place a pillow under your legs so they're not compressed against the bar in the leg rest of the chair. And be aware of symptoms of you think you have one to get tested right away. I've had knee in my lung in the past so my surgeon sent me home on Lovenox injections for 4 weeks post op. As far as pneumonia, using your incentive spirometer and walking should do the trick.

    Pre Op liquid diet

I bought some post op and it tasted way to sweet for me. I'm gonna donate it to my weight loss support group next month.

    Newbie food choices

once you're cleared for soft food, I did well with mozzarella string cheese because it's so soft. If you're I puree I liked the pintos and cheese from Taco bell. You can put Wendy's chili in the blender worth some broth to thin it.

    Yet another NSAID question

I had to stop mine. But I'm seeing as orthopedic doctor who is awesome. I'm getting gel injections in one knee and got a steroid injection in the other and it really helped.
  9. Your best bet is to talk to someone in your HR department. I work at a hospital and was able to use short term disability. I had to use one week of PTO then got 60% off my pay rate for the remaining time. My employer doors not allow you to come back light duty so I was not allowed to return until after 6 weeks.

    Post-OP PILLS??????

I was given liquid zofran and liquid oxycodone and they were really cheap. Omeprazole that I'll be on the first 3 months. Calcium+D soft chews and multi vitamin soft chews over the counter about $30 each for a month supply. I bought liquid Tylenol and took that when needed. As far as the stairs, see how you feel and take the slow or they probably have an elevator for use I would imagine that might help until you feel up to stairs. You'd be surprised what movements use abdominal muscles. I also bought stool softeners since I was having a difficult time getting the fluid in.

    3 days post surgery

I had a hard time with the protein shakes as well, it's like you just can not do it after a point. I would suggest focus on fluids first. Try other sources of protein. One day I took a 1/4 cup of vanilla Greek yogurt and mixed in one scoop of strawberry whey protein with 25 gm protein per scoop. It didn't taste the greatest but was a small amount to get down and a significant amount of protein and not a shake. Or sometimes just changing flavors helps. Try not to over do it for pain. Take it easy. Walk around the house and just give yourself a chance to heal. I spent the first 2 weeks with a pillow on the couch watching tv and just walking, nothing more strenuous. I know as mom's you always feel like there's something to do, but try to let it go for a bit and rest. I hope you feel better.

    Starting the Process

They want to make sure that you've tried other diets without success befor you just go straight for surgery. So that's why they ask. My suggestion to you is to purchase a 3 ring binder with pockets. I wrote out a list of my highest weight, diets I've tried and why I want the surgery on it and put that in the front of my binder as a reminder. I took my binder to every appt and meeting rt to my surgery. Every paper from every dr went in that binder. A copy of every surgical clearance letter went in the binder. Every month when I went to a nutrition meeting I wrote the date and my weight on the top of it and stored out in my binder. It helped me stay organized and if my surgeons office said we never received this I'd pull it out of my binder for them to make a copy.

What do you mean when you say dumping? What are your symptoms?

    What's the best protein bar?

Where do you buy them? I found them on Amazon for $40 for a 12 pack. Is that about average?
  18. I had to pay $200 but I have a high deductible plan.
  19. I've eaten some chips if I really feel the need to but jyst a few to taste and stop that craving. I feel like wiser choices would be better but staying in a decent serving size helps. I grab a handful of chips, don't sit down with the bag.
  20. For a bit I would feel hungry at night but found if I eat a string cheese that did the trick.
  21. I've been struggling with this. I think I've found colace every couple days works well.

    ...two more days!

I was nervous as it got closer. I tried not to think about it. I actually bust into tears when they wheeled me into the OR and I was looking around at all the equipment and then they put med in my IV and had me slide over onto the table, I remember crying and apologizing sliding over onto the table and then waking up in recovery. I'm so happy I wee t through with it though. It's perfectly normal to be nervous about going through surgery. Say a prayer and put it in God's hands.

    Protein bars?

I am 6 wks post op and was cleats to start a regular diet. My nutritionist said try to have protein shakes bc they go through you more quickly. I didn't think you ask at my appt. Does anyone eat protein bars to get more protein or are they just too filling this early on?
  24. I started at 43.9 BMI and size 22 pants. I'm 8 weeks out and my BMI is 34 and pants sz 20.

To Tell or Not To Tell

I told my family and friends that I see in person. I told everyone ar work bc they are like an extended family and we support each other and one of the girls even said she was considering it as well. I did not announce it on social media bc I have come this close to unfriending ignorant people over this topic. I had someone post about how she lost 60# and didn't cheat and take the easy way out by having surgery that she went to the gym every day to lose the weight. I was so posed and commented about how weight loss surgery is not cheating, it's a tool and some people cannot physically perform exercises at the gym and with co-morbidities surgery may be their only option over death. This was before I even had surgery but it kills me that purple can be like this. She then either deleted the whole post or blocked me from seeing the post of that's an option idk. But I figure I don't see these people they don't need to know the intimate details of my life. But I feel comfortable telling everyone else especially if can help someone else to change their life for the better.
