Gym or no gym, that is the question
hmills653 replied to AZBlackhawk's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
My surgeon told me at my 6 week follow up that he wanted me to go to the gym for one hour a day five days a week and add strength training. No matter what I'm doing the nurse always tells me that's not enough. Who knows. I work 12 hr shifts with 40 min drive and I'm not in my 20's anymore so I will only go to the gym on my days off so 4 days a week tops. -
I've used FMLA. Basically you just have your doctor whether surgeon or family physician fill it out and its good for one year so they'll need to fill out a new one each year. When you call off, I always tell them I'm calling off and I have FMLA. That way they cannot fire you over your call offs. I got it the one year when I sprained my ankle then again when I had a pinched nerve in my neck that was causing excruciating pain in my arm.

Yeah. It took me a few weeks to be able to drink decently. When I went to my 6 week follow up they kept dating you need to drink more and I remember how hard it was. Now at like 9 weeks I can chug about a third of a water bottle. It feels good. Just keep trying your hardest and carry water with you all day.

That's great. I've being getting these gel injections in my knee for arthritis, I have one more to get then done with the series. I'm feeling so much better with it and it feels good to walk. I've list like 60# and between the two, I know at work I don't mind getting up and walking down the hall. At the gym, I look forward to walking on the treadmill and breaking a sweat, it feels good. It feels really good to be able to do things and not be in pain. Congrats on your weight loss and I hope I can work myself up to walk as much as you are, that's great. -
How many ounces do you eat per day and how far out?
hmills653 replied to dreamingsmall's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
What is your protein goal? My nutritionist told us 60 oz a day is or goal which I'm meeting and she said after 6 weeks no more protein shakes. I'm just curious if others protein goals are different? -
Wow that is extremely low for a hemaglobin. It's good thing you stayed. They should've seen that there was a high estimated blood loss during surgery and kept you to monitor it anyway. They're always so wick to push people out of the hospital anymore, I blame the insurance companies. But it was for the best.

I was vegetarian for a little over a year until about 4 mos into my weight loss nutrition classes. I stated adding meat back into my diet because I felt like I did go heavy on the carbs and was worried that Is ruin my chances by not eating right. I should check out that book because my 14 year old must decided she is going to become a vegetarian. We've tried to stay away from peek and red meat anyway and I don't eat seafood. Thanks for sharing. -
Well, got my first negativity since surgery
hmills653 posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I am very open and have told everyone that I work with about my surgery. So far everyone has been supportive. I'm the kind of person that is easy going, mellow and gets along with everyone. We work 12 hr shifts 3 days a week so its not uncommon to not see someone for a couple weeks if were on opposite scheduled. Last night one of the girls that I've always talked with and had a good rapport came in for the next shift. I waved to her and nothing but figured she didn't see me. Then sure came to the desk and set her papers down 2 seats away from me then picked them back up and moved to another set of computers and stated talking to someone. I started to feel a little weird then but ok. Then a few mins later she turned around and looked at me and said, "so what do you eat now like 6 lima beans a day. " Holy mother of f@#$ing hell. I wanted to punch in her face. I feel so betrayed right now. Of course, I treated her like one of my bitchy patients and replied no, I eat full meals and snacks and they're just smaller portions. Then she said "Well why would you ever want to do rhat to yourself, I'm trying the blah blah diet right now. " I explained how I've tried other things and the weight always came back on and that I already feel alot better with the small amount of weight Ive lost. Then she says, "Well you know, (former co-worker) had that done and lost a few lbs then gained it all back again. " I gave no response. I'm done. I don't brag at work and wasn't even taking about my weight loss to anyone until they bring it up. I just felt like she was my friend and thought she'd be happy not a salty bit@%. -

hmills653 replied to dreamingsmall's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
9 weeks now. I have a protein bar or 2 eggs for breakfast. Sting cheese or fruit for snack. 2 oz meat lunch. Greek yogurt or string cheese for snack. 2 oz meat dinner or maybe veggie and not finish all of meat. -
I like nature, I love getting up in the morning hearing the birds chirping outside my window. I sit on the front porch sip my water and watch the birds at the feeder. I like to walk the nature trails, I live walking distance from a metro park. 6 weeks post op my husband and I went on a jet ski dolphin tour in Ft Meyers. It was so fun. I'm seriously considering getting jet ski, I live by lake Erie, so no dolphins but still very fun. Try some new things you may be surprised.

I'm on Omeprazole and that's a pull they started me on after surgery I'll be oon for 3 months. I've taken Tylenol for headache as well but I use the ones that have the little beads inside the pill capsule. They seem to work fine.

Wow you look younger too. Congrats

PAINFUL ORGASM..still in pain
hmills653 replied to dreamingsmall's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This is way below where your surgery was, so my guess is they're unrelated. I was active at 5 weeks and just had to do positions that avoided my belly bc of tenderness. Does it feel like sore lower abdominal muscles? I really don't think you could go through that end and give yourself a leak. Don't go to the ER unless it's an emergency and for that don't go to your closest most frequented ER. Trust me on that as a nurse. Tell your surgeon. You don't have to say specifics just say you had engaged in sexual activity and now this is what you're feeling and aren't sure if the two are related. -
Wow. Sorry to hear that. Hope everything is resolved and you're doing good now.

Long post but I needed to say this to people who would understand

Congratulations on how far you've come and for realizing what you need to do now. You look amazing and I'm sure you feel amazing. Keep it up, you can see this through and live a long healthy life. -
I hope everything goes well for you.

I've been hitting it most days. I'm 2 mos out also. Here's whay gets me to the number we need. Breakfast: protein bar 20 gm of protein. Morning snack: string cheese. Lunch: 2 oz chicken. Afternoon snack: Greek yogurt. Dinner: 2 oz chicken. Yes , I know I'm not getting any veggies yet but I can't meet every goal.... if I eat some veggies I can't get enough of the meat in so I have veggies some days not always. I think as time goes by we'll be able to fit more in.

Just getting started..
hmills653 replied to joeibaby's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So my in insurance changed halfway. I started in October but my insurance changed in January. So originally I needed 6 mos of supervised nutrition meetings but with the new insurance there was no set number. I ended up doing 6 months anyway until all of my other requirements could be met. Tyne mist time consuming was getting my bipap. I did the sleep study in Dec with Anthem then in January when I was to get the machine the Health Design Plus doesn't cover the facility I went to. I had a heck of a time trying to get the info from then to wherever it needed to go and my Dr kept saying your pulmonologist deals with that. I did not have a pulmonologist. I was ordered the sleep study for the surgery. Finally got it in March. But I needed cardiac clearance dt history, pcp support letter, the sleep study, psych eval, EGD and to lose 12.5 lbs. and a slew of blood work and urine tests. Luckily I want a smoker or anything so one less hurdle to overcome. I would suggest if you don't already have sleep apnea and use a machine get tested early in case it takes some time for you as well. I also had to do the sleep study twice. The first time to watch me sleep then the second time to watch me sleep with the equipment and find the right settings for me. -
How much leave time are you taking?
hmills653 replied to Seerae3's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I work in a busy med surg floor and do heavy lifting and they do not allow you to come back light duty. I was off 6 weeks but was scheduled for my vacation week the week I would return do technically 7 weeks off. I felt great by then. I went to Florida for my vacation week and felt really good by then. I told them if they could let me do secretary I could come back sooner but they can't change your pay rate and will not let nurses do secretary unless they also have a team of patients. But by 6 weeks I was better than when I left. I also had my eating and drinking routine pretty well down pat by then. -
Nobody comments on weight loss?
hmills653 replied to Jenopolis's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
that's sad. I've only been back to work 2 weeks now but everyone has commented about how I look good and asked how I feel. They're like my extended family and I've been there for 11 years. Is feel hurt if they didn't. So sorry. I agree there is probably some jealousy there. But just remember some people are @$$holes. -
Who else is dying of thirst!!!!!
hmills653 replied to southernbellair79's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I found that not all water is created equal. Tap water tastes like the pool to me, I'll drink it but I can't drink a lot. Life water has a really good taste to me and I can easily drink a 1 liter bottle in the first half of the day, it just seems to go down easier. I was always against bottled water for the sake of the environment but until I get a good filtration set up at home its worth it for me to be able to drink it. -
I was told 2 weeks bc you have to be able to turn quickly out you need to react but I probably could've driven sooner if I needed to.

I used to drink a full pot a day, yes I had some withdrawal headaches post op for a few days. Im now 2 months out and haven't had any caffeine since surgery and I feel great. I don't even need it on the days thatI work 12 hr shifts. I have alot more energy and feel good.
