Starting Mentoring Group for Novice and Expert Sleevers
hmills653 replied to MGCA's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm sorry you have had so many problems. I hope it gets better soon for you. I don't have PCOS, but I know just heavy periods due to pre menopause had been horrible. I hope it regulates for you. My biggest problem with comments was, "when are you due? " I hated the fact that so many people would ask me that. I'm a nurse and received a post op and her daughter came to the floor with her and as I was bent down emptying her catheter, her daughter says to me, "oh you're very pregnant aren't you. " I was mortified. I still had to empty her drain and check her incisions, but all I wanted to do was run out of the room. I will say these comments did push my decision to have the surgery. I feel like pepper should keep their comments to themselves. If there's something going on with my health or my body and I want you to know, I will tell you. -

You're doing fine with weight loss. I wouldn't worry yet. I'm 3 mos post sleeve and only went down one pant size, but everyone comments on how much over lost. Sometimes it comes of differently. My face looks thinner and my bra size went down. As far a food, make sure you're eating slow, if I eat you fast its easy to eat more than you should and feel sick. Remember just because it's on your plate does not mean you have to eat it. My co worker laughed at me yesterday for leaving three bites of my chicken from lunch, she was like, "you seriously did not leave three bites of chicken. " I know from experience that those three more birds would make me feel like crap. I said it'll make a nice snack later before I go home. She said that is not enough for a snack, and I said wth it is if you've had a protein of your stomach removed. You'll have to learn to listen to your stomach and at the first feeling of yeah I may be full, stop and leave it bc one or two bites have made all the difference in walking away fine out walking away in stabbing pain. Pre op I was originally 256# right before surgery was 231# now I'm 3 mos out 189#. I notice a difference and feel good. Also avoiding carbs has left me feeling more flat in the stomach, when I would eat alot bread Pre op it would leave me feeling bloated. -
Feeling a bit out of control
hmills653 replied to Darlynn's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I'm just 3 mos post op. But I'd say start with your food choices, get back to basics of protein first then veggies. No drinking with meals. Congrats on your baby. Maybe take some nice walks with the baby in the stroller. They make jogging strollers that may make it easier to keep a good pace that with regular strollers. It's a life long struggle. It'll take time. Hang in there but you'll have to just set your mind to it and go for it. Good luck. -
Has anyone ever had a PCP stop their pre-op 6 month diet due to not losing enough?
hmills653 replied to pg278's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I kind of cheated at the end of my pre op. I had a set amount of weight to lose. I did the hcg diet to lose the weight my last month and meet my goal. I've lost significant weight on this diet a few times but it just doesn't stay off. But I feel like do what you have to do to get there. I had changed my eating habits and started walking but it wasn't coming off quickly enough. -
Regret but not regret
hmills653 replied to KateBruin's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was told to wean off the Gabapentin before surgery. I don't know your situation though. Maybe cut then in half to help and try swallowing one every 15 mins. Take your nausea med before your pills as well to help keep them down. I felt regret as well I the beginning. It'll definitely pass once you get through the crappy first few weeks. I agree with sleep and sip bc your body is healing and the sleep helps. Be sure to walk as well though when you are awake. Good luck. -
One of the girls I work with actually bleached her hair right off. She wrote beautiful wigs for a free years just because she said it was so much easier to get ready and change your style and they never looked like wigs.

How to push through liquid phase
hmills653 replied to KateBruin's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Congrats on meeting your goals, it took me time to meet the protein and I still don't meet the water goal. But my diet was different than yours. I was 6 weeks on liquids then on pureed for one week then on soft for two weeks then advanced to regular foods but no rice, pasta, or bread. Just try to stay strong and maybe add different types of liquids like if you're allowed full liquids then pudding is a full liquid that may give you more satisfaction. I just sipped chicken broth, but the warmth was very satisfying to me. -

Stomach Stretching is a Myth
hmills653 replied to OperaMom's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I wad told no carbonation bc the air bubbles in the smaller stomach may cause discomfort. I used to drink the flavored carbonated water but the ones in the can were so bubbly thatI could only drunk half a can or I'd get a stomach ache pre-op. Everyone would probably be different one this one. -
Stomach Stretching is a Myth
hmills653 replied to OperaMom's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
one thing I was told is that pre op your stomach volume being larger means that you produce more ghrelin (hope spelled right) which causes more frequent hunger. Whereas post op with less stomach you will not feel as much hunger. I'm 3 mos post op and I feel hungry at meal times but not in between. I think making smart coffees is a big key. Even if you can eat 8 to 10 oz of food, think about calories, nutrition, and protein first. A chicken breast and broccoli would be a better choice than a big Mac and fries. That's where the difference comes into play. -
I've been there. The other day In thought three only like 2 bites left, what difference could that make. Enough to have me pacing in pain apparently. We all slip up at some time.

I was about 2 weeks post op. Made him position himself so he didn't touch my belly. It was fine.

Gallbladder sludge?
hmills653 replied to ebroms17's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
My first round of hcg losing 30 lbs in one month, I had a gallstone that was stuck and developed pancreatitis. I thought I was going to die. Horrible pain. I had it out later and it wasn't too bad. I haven't had any trouble since. -
I'm terrified to give away my fat clothes now that I'm tiny!
hmills653 replied to itstimealready's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
maybe take the larger sizes and sell them and put the money aside somewhere and when you have fully stabilized use it to buy new clothes. -

Eating past the 20 minute mark
hmills653 replied to gotime0810's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was told 30-30-30. Stop drinking 30 mins before meal. Spend no more than 30 mins eating then don't drink for 30 mins after. -

Jealous of others on here
hmills653 replied to Mersh's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My youngest sound like you. As a baby agree would nurse until she vomited on me. As a child we'd go to the buffet and she vomited on a few occasions. Now as a teen she's struggling to get healthy with low energy, depression, unable to focus and trying to eat right and work out to lose weight. We're seeing several doctors and hopefully we can get her on the right path. She's almost 15 years old. -
Chest hurts when eating stuff
hmills653 replied to KKLive's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm almost 3 months and still get that. It is getting better though. I think you have to take a little, whatever is tolerable I'd say and you'll start to get used to it the more you eat it . Also, I know get full alot quicker from chicken than yogurt. Therefore I try to go slower when eating meat and anticipate that I'll need to stop eating alot sooner than with other foods. I also have that pain with drinking after eating sometimes even a good 2 hrs after I eat. I have to be careful with that first drink after eating to see how it will feel. -
When I went for my 6 week check up my surgeon said not to go over 1000 calories a day. But it can be different for anyone. Probably depending on your starting weight, etc. If cal the office and ask if you're unsure.

Stalls, stalls, stalls
hmills653 replied to bcl1628's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I stopped weighting myself. I figure I'll get my weight at the doctors when I habe my 3 mos visit them only weigh once a month. There's to much up and down for me to weigh frequently. I think it'll just frustrate me if I keep weighing frequently. -
