Blowing it, meant to be obese

You have done so great and should be proud of yourself. This is a struggle that is lifelong. We didn't put the weight on in a few months and these eating habits developed over time. A weight loss support group where people understand what your going through may be helpful. Sent from my SM-N920T using the BariatricPal App

I need a helpful support team!

I'm preoperative but I try to avoid fast food by making it to the grocery store every week so I don't need to eat out. Also, I try not to buy it if I'll feel guilty eating it. Not to say I never give in, but these little things help to decrease it. But you look amazing. Just try to decrease your temptations. Sent from my SM-N920T using the BariatricPal App

    Sleeve or Bypass

Did he say what the sweets had to do with the choice? I was told with bypass you have a higher chance of dumping syndrome when you eat sweets. But it can happen with the sleeve as well. Sent from my SM-N920T using the BariatricPal App

Where is your fat hanging on tight?

I'm in the pre phase planning on having sleeve gastrectomy. I am concerned about hanging skin. I already have hanging skin on my belly. I don't want to have to have skin removed afterward. I am curious if anyone is doing any weight training to help tighten things up or if there's anything else you've tried and if you've found anything that works. New to the group...

I did that when I first started. I had my first physician assisted weight loss class in October and started feeling that way and then gained 5#by Dec when I meet with the doctor. I was told I need to lose 12.5 lbs before they'll schedule the surgery. But my 6 months of classes will finish in March. I was thinking about doing the liquid pre op diet just to get some weight off but I'm not sure if it would come right back after I start eating again. I'm walking/jogging and contemplating getting a gym membership to start adding some weights. I've got some time but don't want to wait to the last minute. I've got 8.5 lbs to go. Surgery is on January 23

    Dumb question?

I believe if it's liquid it would digest just as quickly as Water so I wouldn't think the rule would apply. Sent from my SM-N920T using the BariatricPal App

    Help

Ok. Then I would try to get it done while it can be covered by Medicaid. My big fears are what will my or of pocket be, will they expect me to pay that up front (10% after my deductible is met) and then I do heavy lifting at work so I have to take 6 weeks off and short term disability pays 60% but we need every penny so I may try to pick up extra hours before hand. I still have a few months before anything will be scheduled. I'm just a worrier. Good luck to you with surgery and the new job. Sent from my SM-N920T using the BariatricPal App

    What Multi Vitamin best?

My nutritionist recommended Flintstones complete chewable. But I will be adding a chewable Iron because I already have trouble with low iron and was told Celebration was the best tasting. Hope that helps. Haven't tried any yet though. Sent from my SM-N920T using the BariatricPal App

    Am new and nervous

That's so scary, but another reason to try to lose the weight and watch your diet. I had a blood clot in my lung a year ago. It was scary but blood clots can be weight related. This shouldn't keep you from getting approved for surgery. I had to do a sleep study. It was a bad experience for me. I felt very panicked when first wearing the mask but they kept making adjustments to the machine and eventually waited until I was actually falling asleep before putting the mask on me. They said I don't have a problem until after I go into REM then my throat relaxes too much and closes off. My suggestion would be to practice relaxation breathing and calming thoughts ahead of time to help you relax. Also tell them if you feel that you need to breathe slower than the machine etc and they can change it and I was told that it adjusts as you fall asleep. Once I feel asleep it was ok and I woke up a few times because my mouth felt dry but feel right back to sleep. Good news is that the girls at my weight loss support group said their sleep apnea reversed after their weight loss. Crossing my fingers. Although, I haven't had a colonoscopy, I imagine the prep would be worse than the sleep study. Sent from my SM-N920T using the BariatricPal App

    Psych Eval Worries

I agree. Be honest about your past and how you've learned to cope with your issues and I can't imagine them denying you. We all have issues with food that we deal with and will continue to deal with the rest of our lives but it's the willingness to accept that we have a problem that allows us to fix it. Good luck Sent from my SM-N920T using the BariatricPal App

    Help

Another consideration. Will your insurance change with a new job or do you have a separate policy outside of this new employer. You may have to be there a certain amount of time before you can qualify for short term disability as well. I don't know your financial situation, but after you get a surgery date you can see if you're eligible for compensated leave and if so it may be worth postponing surgery a month or so. I know my husband want eligible in his job for paid leave until after a year though. Sent from my SM-N920T using the BariatricPal App
  19. I'm sorry. That's got to be hard. I've only told a few coworkers but they seem to think that I should be trying harder to lose the weight other ways. I have tried so many different ways and I if I could try harder and lose it and keep it off then I would. I think that if you haven't walked in these shoes it's hard to understand. When you're overweight and have comorbidities like arthritis it's harder and more painful to exercise and I'm not a spring chick anymore either. I hope they can get your approval, I would call HR every few days to check on it. Best of luck and congrats. Sent from my SM-N920T using the BariatricPal App
  20. That's alot in 2 weeks. Yikes. I hope that doesn't happen to me. I still have to get my CPAP then an EGD, psych evaluation and 2 more months of supervised weight loss classes. I was told last month that I needed to lose 12.5 lbs. I've lost 4 lbs but it's been hard. I've been eating more Protein, watching the carbs and portion size and walking/jogging 1.5 miles 4 days a week. I feel like I can tell a difference in my size but the weight is slow to move. Normally this would be fine but I'm worried about losing the weight quickly enough. I guess I have 2 months so as long as I can continue to lose about a lb a week I'll be ok. Thinking of joining a gym to add weight training. Good luck. Sent from my SM-N920T using the BariatricPal App
  21. I was told a story of a pt that had steak the day before surgery and when the dr went in with EGD scope prior to surgery and found whole food that hadn't been digested completely they cancelled the surgery and had to reschedule. Sent from my SM-N920T using the BariatricPal App
