A discouraging doctor....need to vent.

That’s horrible, I had already had a stress test prior to getting cardiac clearance but my cardiologist signed the papers wished me luck and I was on my way with the signed paper that I faxed myself and he kept a copy for the records. I had a binder that I kept all papers from doctors, meetings, etc copies of everything. Also I absolutely HATE when a$$holes have the nerve to tell us how we’re so petty we should lose weight!!!!! -
Swimming - 3.5 weeks after sleeve op
hmills653 replied to Miles in the UK's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
As long as you’re all healed, I went to Florida at 6 weeks out and went jet skiing in the ocean and swimming in the pool and ocean but I had no open area at all. You don’t want to risk infection. -
I had a hiatal hernia repair during my sleeve. I believe it’s pretty common. If you did have a hernia it could cause problems later on as the bowel can come out through the hole in the lining and you could end up with an obstruction.

I would stick with water and protein shakes at this point. Once you start purée, I was week 3 and the easiest for me was like a slice of peach puréed and Taco Bell pintos and cheese. I remember crying bc I could only eat a few spoonfuls and just wanted to finish a whole cup. Head hunger is very real. I also liked hot tea, especially peppermint .

I think that’s great, I think some of us have more swelling and inflammation initially which makes it harder. Just listen to your body and don’t try to push beyond your limits or you’ll be in pain. I’ve over indulged a few times and spent an hour paving the house nauseated and sweating and in tremendous pain. Now at almost 3 years I can chug a half a water bottle on an empty stomach, I still don’t drink for at least a half hour after eating and would never chug water until several hours after eating. You just have to get to know your body again.

Cheated on Liver Shrinking Diet
hmills653 replied to Xolosing's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Get back on track, it should be ok, I ate like a box or two of sugar free jello a day to get me through my liver shrinking diet. I remember using that to fill me up at work. But it is important for a safe surgery. -

Tried of not being able to go!
hmills653 replied to 50Startingover's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I was there, on the toilet in pain googling what to do. So here was what helped me.... milk of mag, an over the counter enema, and if it’s there but can’t come out...TMI... a warm washcloth held to the rectal area can help relax the muscles. -
No way, I wish I’d have done it sooner

What's the immediate recovery like? (Days 1-4 post op)
hmills653 replied to Stacy1234's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I will never forget day one sitting in the hospital room thinking, what the hell did I just do to myself. When I went home I couldn’t swallow water it hurt too much, I would dip my tongue into the little medicine cup and absorb it I guess 😂. They gave me liquid oxy for home and it helped the pain but you will need to take something to help prevent constipation if you can’t get enough fluids bc that’s miserable in itself. But best advice is set a timer, tell seri or Alexa to to remind you to drink. Walk, walk walk, don’t try to go hiking when you are still barely able to get food in bc you will feel good but if you over do it too quickly you will feel like or possibly pass out. -
I occasionally get those horrible cramps in my legs usually when my electrolytes are low, like potassium or magnesium. I had to do the shots for a month after surgery bc of prior blood clot in my lung, you should’ve seen my belly, it will fade don’t worry.

Work.....How long were you out?

I was out 6 weeks bc of lifting restrictions, I’m a nurse so they said if I didn’t have to do lifting I could’ve returned in 4 weeks -
Surgery this month, wife threatening divorce
hmills653 replied to Xx1jpt5xx's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
So sorry. I’m a nurse and feel so much better after surgery. Not to make her feel uneducated but maybe if she did know more of the facts about BariatricPal surgery that would help her. Nursing is such a broad field that none of us can be experts in all areas. I’m sure she’s concerned about things such as complications or some worry their spouse will leave them if they lose weight. I would try to explain the medical reasons such as sleep apnea, blood pressure, arthritis, wear and tear on joints etc, risk for stroke or heart attack and that with a baby coming you want to be your healthiest self for both of them. Good luck -

Yes, I’m now a guzzler as well. I’m a nurse and we can’t have drinks out so when I go through the back I take a quick chug here and there or else I won’t be able to get it in. -
My suggestion is to save a clothing item. I saved one pair of jean shorts. Three years out there are days when I realize I’m wearing a size medium but look in the mirror and still feel “fat” Every so often I will pull them out just to put on and remind myself how far I’ve come. It’s hard to change your mindset.

Yes, I had a Cheeto addiction post op, might sound crazy but I could eat a whole bag in a day. I won’t even buy them anymore. If you have access to meetings, it helps to go and even hear from the pre op people to help you remember why you went through this. Think back on the day after surgery when you probably thought to yourself what the hell did I just do to myself and think about how far you’ve come so far. But a support group really does help. I only go when I start to falter and need the help, they have then once a month where I went.

I was addicted to crunchy Cheetos post op. I put on 30# over a 6 mos period eating anything I felt like and could an entire bag of Cheetos in a day. I won’t even buy them anymore. I’m back on track with healthier food options on most days but know that I’ll allow myself cheat days such as occasional work potluck etc. We are all human and were all fighting the same battles. -
I’m almost 3 years out, I never quite reached my goal. I got down to 150# but once I started eating carbs again gained some. I have maintained at around 170#. I’m happy with my loss, but ideally wanted to reach 130# as my surgeon never gave me a goal to reach. I feel like I have to be good because this far out I can eat more and don’t want to fall into old habits. I’m glad I found this thread because I’m recovering from the holidays and more carbs than I should’ve eaten, but I’m back on track and feeling better.

WHAT EXACTLY IS THE ISSUE WITH CARBONATED DRINKS??? & other questions!
hmills653 replied to New&Improved's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I’m almost 3 years out, I don’t drink pop, but an occasional flavored seltzer like White Claw. But I pour it into a glass instead of drinking from the can and it can cause discomfort with the sleeve since there’s not as much stretchability. But this far out it doesn’t bother me. -
What's something you wish you had known before losing all the weight?
hmills653 replied to BoredFatGirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Find a bra with side support to hold in the loose side boob. Stretch pants with a snug high waist will help hold in the loose skin muffin top. I saved one pair of jean shirts from prior to surgery for the days I look it my hanging belly and dream of a tummy tuck, to remind myself of how far I’ve come. -
I told my friends, family and Co workers. But didn’t announce it on social media. If someone asks me I tell them but I am almost 3 years or so weight has stabilized and I’m going to lose anymore I have to start a work our routine or do a few weeks of keto. So now when people ask if I’ve lost some weight I tell them what I’m currently doing. There is nothing wrong with keeping it to yourself. Your medical history doesn’t have to be anyone else’s business, just like you wouldn’t have to share with anyone else if you took a pregnancy test. Keep up the great work and remember you did this surgery for yourself not to make anyone else feel differently toward you.

May 15th, 2017 Sleevers Check in Here!!!
hmills653 replied to Newme17's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hello, still here. I let go for the holidays... and so started back on track with my diet , but down 10# after 2 weeks of no added sugar and watching the carbs. My knees have been giving me trouble still but getting gel injections every 6 months so that does help. Overall I’m down 110# and held with a10-15 # fluctuations. -
In three past 6 mos I went from a 3X to a medium. I still feel fat. I see my collar bones but I also see my fat belly and jiggly thighs. Others say things like you look good and you're so tiny, but I still feel like a fat girl. It's hard to get past the mentality of the changes in our bodies.

These are very filling. One cookie is lunch.
