  1. Here is my simple and short story! I arrived at the hospital at 9:15 am, at about 9:45 a nice nurse called me back. He got my weight, height, etc. Took me to a room and had me pee in a cup to confirm I am not prego. Then he had me change into the oober fashionable hospital gown. A guy from x-ray came and did a chest x-ray, which took about 5 mins. Then another nurse came in and started an iv, put the nausea patch behind my ear, and then gave me an anti-anxiety pill. Then the anesthesiologist came in and gave me a "happy" shot into my iv. He proceeded to tell me what would be happening once we got to the OR. My mom came in and kissed me and said see ya soon. Thats the last thing I remember. I woke up about 45 mins after surgery, and then got moved up to my recovery room. They had told my mom it was gonna be about 3 before I'd be in my room so she left to get my dad but I was back in my room around 1:15. So I had to hang out awhile alone, but it was ok. I drifted in and out of sleep. Within an hour of getting into my room I was up and walking. I had awesome nurses! They were all very impressed at how fast I was progressing. I started to walk alone even. Then they were able to take off my oxygen, and the leg compresses. My parents got to the room and we hung out for a little bit. But then my dad had to get back to work. I got to call my hubby and talk to him for awhile. I slept about 8 hours and woke up around 4 am. All through the night I ate popsicles and ice chips and drank water. I got to have chicken broth, and jello. Once after I got to the room and then again this morning. My surgeon came in and checked my incisions and said you ready to go home! So I was released about 10 and came home. I have been great all day today although I think I overdid it a bit so I ended up taking more vicodin this evening but I feel great. I got permission to have a milk shake on my way home, and then I've been able to drink my liquids and I have done great. I got to have one scrambled egg tonight and it was good but my taste buds are all out of whack! lol! But I am doing great!! I couldn't be happier with my decision to have this done! Good luck to all of you that will be having this done!
  2. yeah from the minute they took me back to the pre-op area I had to get into a gown. Then until I was ready to be discharged I had to stay in the gown and wasn't allowed to wear anything undie's wise. I didn't take my own popsicles, they have them there for you. They will only offer ice chips but I just kept asking for popsicles and they'd give them to me! I can't wait to hear about how your progressing! keep me posted!!

    BMI question

simply had to write down the things I have tried. I've done WW for a long time but only lost 40 pounds in a year and a half. I tried Atkins, South Beach and also medifast. The only thing I really had to show was the WW log book thingy, and they took my word on it for the rest of it.

Tricare Prime and Dallas/Fort Worth Texas

I had to stay overnight too. My surgeon said he would have let me leave yesterday because I was doing so well, but that Tricare required that I stay overnight? I dunno maybe it's different in each state

    Jazzy June Protein Preferences

I use EAS Myoplex lite. The vanilla one has an after taste but the chocolate and strawberry are pretty darn good! I also have the plain powder they make and so far I haven't been able to tell when I add it to my drinks. Walmart is the obvious best place to buy them because they are the cheapest. But I found them at Fry's and Target too.

    Post Surgery check in here

Hooray finally my turn to announce that I am banded!! I went in yesterday and came home today, and I feel GREAT! I seriously only have a bit of tenderness in the middle of my belly. I only took one vicodin last night so I could fall asleep, and one again this afternoon so I could get good sleep in my bed. It was heaven to sleep in my bed! My surgeon said that I was his easiest patient yet!
  7. it went GREAT! I am home now and I am really in zero pain. I had to take one vicodin yesterday, but other than that I haven't taken anything. The incisions look kinda nasty, but monash say's they'll heal beautifully! They said I was a model patient. I was up and walking an hour after I woke up, and I've not been nausous (sp?) and no throwing up. Make sure whenever you go you eat popsicles. they are a great taste AND they like to see you eating them. Keep me posted on your progress!!

  9. I know its a probability that I am going to WANT to have it done. However my surgeon has not spoken a word about PS. It'd be nice if he'd have said at least a little bit about it, but nothin! Thanks to this board, and you, I am much better educated and fully anticipate that I'll be having ps after I get rid of all my weight!
  10. Hubby is based at Pax River in MD. Right now thats where he is doing training. I was there but came home around Aug of last year so I could have help with our son and the new baby. DH was gone about 16 hours everyday because of all the silly training they are putting him through and I couldn't take it! So right now we are living apart "voluntarily" but we just found out in Nov he'll be getting deployed for certain some place overseas which sucks! Totally not what we were expecting! He'll be coming home hopefully next month sometime and then I won't get to see him again until around Christmas and then he gets deployed. So he'll be coming home to a totally different wife!! Totally excited for that! I am happy to help in any way! Us military wives gotta stick together! I'm sure you could teach me somethings about military life, we've only been doing this for 2 years! This weekend is going to be painfully slow! The last 2 weeks went by soooo fast, and now the days seem to be dragging! loL! But I'll be sure to let ya know!

    magic bullet or blender ??

i got a magic bullet on ebay for 15 bucks with 5 bucks shipping and I LOVE it! Glad that I have it now that I'm going to be having surgery!!
  12. lol no worries! I like Dr. M. He seems like a good doc. I went to st.m's for my pre-admin today and the lady says that he's done tons of these surgeries and she really likes him. I am not 100 over my ideal either and I got approved no worries. I didn't really have to do any tests though. The only thing I had to have done was the pysch eval. So I'll keep my fingers crossed for ya! Keep me posted on how its going! I'll let ya know how surgery was when I get home! I'm so excited! I can't even wait!!

    Sharing that you're having surgery

at first I didn't want to tell anyone. my mom had it done a year ago and she's the one who really convinced me that it'd be better to have it done now then to wait 40 years and end up like her, sad miserable and fat. So I live with my in-laws cuz dh is deployed, so I told them. Skeptical at first but I have talked with them about it and given details and such and now they are totally on board. My dad and step-mom, not so much. My step mother has always had an issue with me when I am thinner than her. she'd tell me i was fat when I was 13 and hat I should go on a diet, etc etc. So I told her about it and she has been trying to convince me to not have it done, postpone, do more research, just anything for me to not have it. But I DONT care anymore! I've told a few other friends and some people from church. I'm not ashamed of the decision to get healthy. My kids are 3 and 7 months and i want to be around a long time for them!

    BMI question

First off, welcome! Glad to have you here! I am fairly new here too, but here is how I can help. I did not have to do a pre-op diet. I had to provide my diet history but didn't have to do a diet before. So I can't help on that part. But the other question, you are going to have to make a concious effort to change your habits. My mom had this done a year ago and before she was totally like you. She'd just eat cuz she was bored, had nothing to do, etc etc. So she started finding things to do to occupy her time. She started knitting, riding bikes, reading books, going to friends houses. Just anything to keep her mind off of food. Lap Band is a great tool and you can suceed if you put the work in. Good luck!! jenn
  15. just wanted to say hello! I am in tucson and and was reading a post and saw you. it's nice to meet others from this part of the world!! ;)

  17. hey everyone! I just wanted to introduce myself! I just found out last week that my surgery is going to be on the 16th. So I am super excited, but also a bit nervous. This has gone WAAAY faster than I expected it to! So here is a blurb about me: My name is Jenn. I am 24. Married to my favorite person, who is a police officer in the Navy. We've been married 5 years (in Nov.) We have 2 beautiful babies, James will be 3 in July and Sophie is 7 months. I am an avid scrapbooker and I love going outside with the kids but am entirely too embarassed to do so. So I can't wait to get this weight gone! DH is deployed right now so he'll be coming home to a totally different me! Which will also be fabulous! I am happy to be joining all of you! I can't wait to give you an update on Tuesday after my surgery!:rolleyes2:

    Wahooo!!!

Just wanted to shout hooray! I got a call from Tricare yesterday about my surgery! I was a bit confused because I hadn't gotten a call from my surgeon yet, and the lady from Tricare didn't tell me I had gotten approved. She was saying things like "are you getting excited" "are you ready" things like that and I was totally lost. Then my surgeon called and said that I should come in on the 5th for all my pre-op stuff and he'll give me my surgery date that day, which is usually not more than 2 weeks after pre-op! I'm so excited! So bouncing off the walls!!! The whole process has been less than 2 months! So happy!!! :wink2:
  21. JenniLeen

    Tricare approved me!

    wahoo!! congrats!
  22. JenniLeen

Tricare approval once referral is in place?

well my surgeon is all ready to get everything sent I am just waiting on my awful PCM to get my records and letter sent to him. I'm so irritated! I called my dr's office 3 weeks ago and let them know that I'd need everything by the 17th (which was actually 5 days before I really needed it) and they still haven't sent it to him! UGH! I've been calling them everyday so hopefully they'll get tired of me calling and just get it taken care of! One can hope right??!

    Need A Friend...22

Hey everyone! I am loving reading about everyone's journey! I just turned 24 and I am hoping to be banded this time next month. Right now I am just waiting for my stupid doctor to get my records and the letter or neccessity sent to my surgeon. Then the surgeon will be submitting everything to the ins and I should be getting banded! I am really excited! Mostly nervous about loose skin but not too nervous about the rest of it!

    Tricare Approval

I went in and had my psych eval today and she gave me the go ahead. Now I am just waiting for the stupid doctor to write my letter and send my records over...why must they take so long?? ugh! it's been 2 weeks! it's terrible! but once the surgeon gets all that they'll be submitting to Tricare and hopefully I'll have my surgery by this time next month!! Keeping my fingers crossed!
