NORTH CAROLINA SLEEVERS-- Advice needed
brandiddy replied to Candygyrl's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm going through Carolinas Weight and wellness center. So far I've had a great experience. I started in December and was approved 3 weeks ago. My surgery is in April. My surgeon is Dr. Gersin. Everyone has been really nice and helpful. All test and appointments have been easily set up and are located at the facility or local hospital. I have also heard great things about a weightloss center in Hickory. I believe is called Catawba Weight Management. I have a couple of friends who have went through them. BTMOMOF3 -
Psychological Eval - what did you experience?
brandiddy replied to Chris Lee's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The person I saw dug in pretty deep. I guess looking for any signs of eating disorders or ways to help me control my eating and to make sure there's no chance of self sabatoge. They got very personal and wanted to know a lot of family history. They are looking for HOW you got where you are in hopes to give you options to change those habits or fill those voids. But it wasn't bad, and I was still approved. Some people tell you to lie to them, but they know when you are so dont. Lol. Hope this helps. Good luck with your journey! BTMOMOF3 -

Not all BCBS insurance companies will have the same requirements. For example, BCBS In one state is not the same company as BCBS in another state. And not all plans issued by the same insurance company will have the same requirements. So an H MO within BCBS CA will likely have different requirements than a PPO plan. There may not even be the same requirements between PPOs from the same company. Unless you have exactly the same insurance plan with exactly the same insurance company, you can't really compare. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App Yes. I know. And at the time didn't realize they weren't even in the same. I saw a response from a different person and thought I was responding to them, so thanks for your input. BTMOMOF3 -
Awesome. You look great. My surgery is in April! BTMOMOF3

Your hair loss can come from you being malnourished If you're not eating enough. I've heard the hair loss will happen with many bariatric patients anyway but making sure your getting adequate nutrition is key too. But congrats on your weightloss and I hope you get an appetite back soon! Hang in there! BTMOMOF3

I don't have to do 6 months of classes. I seen my nutritionist once. In 2 weeks time, I did my fitness eval, talked with a physc doctor, talked with a nutrionist and spoke to the surgeon. Had my upper endo laat week. I go back in March for a bone density scan, another nutrition class, another meeting with the surgeon and surgery in April. My pre op diet starts March 27th. BTMOMOF3 -

It seems like every office is different in their requirements too. I never got a booklet that said it was an insurance requirement. That's strange. Especially since we both have BCBS. BTMOMOF3 -

I have bcbsnc state health plan. I was just approved. Even if your BMI is 39, they would still cover it if you have other comorbidies(sp?) So if your sleep apnea is documented there is no reason they should have denied you, unless for other reasons. Talk to your PCP and insurance coordinator. They have recently updated the policy so you do not have to have weight documentation submitted. They leave it up to the surgical team. BTMOMOF3 -
I got my approval today! March 14th is the day. I'm super excited. I've got my bone density scan and RMR to do, then it's go time! Anybody else have a March date? Also, pre op diet starts Feb 28th. For those who have already done the pre op diet, any tips? BTMOMOF3

Well, my surgery date has been moved back. April 10th now. I work for the school system here and that is the week before spring break. So I'll have more recovery time and won't have to use all my sick days. SOOOO, the good thing is, it gives me more time to prepare. But I was really hoping to be able to get it done in March! I'm currently waiting on approval from my insurance company and have been following the diet given to me by my nutritionist. I've cut back on portions, getting more Protein and drinking more Water. I go walking 3 times a week and do exercises at home as well. I haven't lost a pound on my own. I started this 2 weeks ago. I bounce between 253 and 256 everyday. It's very discouraging and I'm afraid it will affect me being approved for surgery by my doctor. What else can I do? BTMOMOF3

Hi! I'm just beginning my journey with the gastric sleeve. I had my first consultation with the surgeon on December 16th 2016 followed by my dietician, fitness eval, and psych eval a week later. Now I'm waiting on my upper endoscopy Thursday. My insurance keeps changing their requirements so I'm nervous to see how long my wait will be before approval. The waiting makes me incredibly anxious!! Also, while I've done most of my research and have my mind set on VSG, the longer I wait the more I keep debating that decision and wondering should I get the bypass. How did you decide?
