    Protein bars over shakes?

The Pure protein bars are the only ones I"ll eat too. They have a good protein to calorie ratio and NO other bar out there can compete with that. Any other bar I've looked at (even tho ones at like GNC) have too many calories AND sugar compared to the amount of protein you get.
  2. Had all of my excess tummy skin removed yesterday (panniculectomy) and I cannot wait to see my belly button! Its been 36 years since I've seen it!

    Nauseous Anyone?!?

You should probably talk to your doctor. food smells and tastes changed for me and it did get better...but to this day I cannot eat cottage cheese. Even the thought of it makes my stomach turn. I know that if I'm full, if I look at food or even think about it, I get that "watery mouth feeling" like I'm going to puke. It usually goes away pretty quickly tho. Good luck! I hope you feel better soon!

    Post op vitamins

@@Lauraazucena I have a whole page listed for doses and when to take them on my blog page. If you go to my blog its under the "nom nom nom" heading and then "vitamins"... I copied and pasted it for you. I had the RNY so this is specific. I split my Vitamins up between morning and night because some of them cannot be taken together. I take the following in the AM: Centrum adult chewable multi-Vitamin 2 per day 65mg Iron daily 500mg Vitamin C chewable daily 4,000 IU vitamin D3 three times a week 5,000 mcg vitamin B12 three times a week I take the following in the PM: Calcium Citrate with D3 two times a day 10,000 mcg Biotin daily 625 mg Fiber three times a week

    Constipation routine?

I take a Fiber pill three times a week and the directions say to drink it with a full 8oz of Water. I just wrote a blog post "everyone poops, until they can't" for this very reason If you have a strong stomach, I suggest reading it. I promise you will NEVER forget to take your fiber after you read it!
  9. @@_Kate_ Surgery is Friday! I am so excited!!! A little nervous about the pain. My doc says no heavy lifting or big movements for a month. Hopefully my husband will vacuum during that time

    Excessive coughing post op

I didn't smoke but I did cough and sneeze. Let me tell you, I thought i was going to DIE every single time. The pain lasted for a good month at LEAST. Just remember you've been cut open and scooped out so its bound to hurt. totally normal. I hope you feel better! Hang in there!!

    Which procedure to choose

I had a friend that had the band. He LOVED ice cream...because he could eat it ALL day long! It would just slide right through! The band only stops you momentarily from eating like an asshole (I have a whole blog post about this). But your stomach is still there, growling and able to take in food whenever you please and on top of that, whatever you please. Personally, I had the RNY and I couldn't be happier but there are draw backs to that. I having dumping, I have to take vitamins for the rest of my life, and I had to change my eating habits completely. I guess it just depends on what you want to deal with...

    Extra skin

My friend swears by Vitamin E oil...but it didn't work for me. I'm having surgery next week Friday to remove my excess tummy skin. I super excited!

    How will meals change

I know that I'm not hungry because I can go an entire Saturday and not eat anything until I start shaking and almost pass out...that's not healthy either! LOL But when I'm busy and I'm not just sitting here doing nothing, I don't feel hungry...my stomach never actually "growls" anymore so I know that I'm either eating out of boredom (because I dont have anything else better to do) or I'm eating because I need nutrition... I have to be VERY careful not to sit and snack all day. It is a conscious effort for me on a daily basis.
  14. First off, good luck!! Second...I always add a SMIDGE (less than a teaspoon for 12oz of water) of sugar to my tea...but if you don't want to do that, maybe do honey instead? 1 tbsp of honey has 60 calories in it. Maybe instead of fat, you're gaining muscle? Muscle weighs more than fat remember...AND, you're throwing your body off so maybe its scared that you're starving it. Make sure you're getting at least 60grams of Protein a day and drinking plenty of Water. Don't drink at least 30 mins before your meals, during your meals, or 30 mins after your meals...(once your back on food that is). Good luck! I hope you get to your goal!

    How will meals change

@@chunkymonkey123 I eat a dannon light & fit greek yogurt every single morning. I put a little bit of fresh fruit in it and then I don't eat again until lunch. I drink a decaf green tea in the morning and that seems to curb hunger too...I don't actually FEEL hungry but I know I eat when I'm bored or cant find anything else better to do.

    Pre-op with questions

Ive been heavy my whole life but never above 280...I'm 125 now and i'm having skin removal surgery on my stomach next week. Its there. My arms hang... my boobs are literally gone and when i bend over, they look like balloons after you let the air out! LOL My friend is a week out from me and she has NO extra skin because her skin bounced back... mine didn't. You can rub Vitamin E oil all over...she swears by it. There may be nothing you can do. Check your insurance for the coverage criteria for a paniculectomy. that is the skin removal surgery for your abdomen. If you check out my blog next week, i'll have before and after pictures of my skin removal surgery. Good luck! Its not as bad as it sounds...they make compression tank tops for a reason

    How will meals change

If you have the will power to eat "snacks" like FindingCarrie said, then by all means, snack on Protein packed things...but snacking is a way to gain weight or not lose at all. this surgery allows you to eat little meals all day long so if you're not careful, you will find yourself eating tiny amounts all day...and what will that add up to at the end of the day? Oh sure, a bite here and a bite there but next thing you know, you're at 1500 calories. I literally just posted about this today on my blog...check it out Linda
  18. Oh my gosh I'm so jealous!!! I want my boobs done. I JUST said yesterday that I look like a little boy because i'm seriously flat chested now...I've had mosquito bites that are bigger than my boobs! I can't afford the extra 5k right now so i suppose I'll just have to live with being the president of the itty bitty titty comity.
  19. Congratulations! You look awesome! I'm having my tummy done in a week! I'm so excited! not excited for the pain but certainly to finally look like I feel!!

    Opinions....?

I had the bypass and couldn't be happier. My dad had the RNY 8 years ago and he's stayed steady for 8 years now. With the bypass, there can be more complications. Your body is subjected to malabsorption so I need to take vitamins for the rest of my life. I also have to be VERY careful on what I eat because I'm subject to dumping syndrome. However, even with that said, I have adapted, I am happy, healthy, and down to my goal weight. I think that having the RNY was the kick in the butt I needed to stop me from eating like an asshole...I think with the sleeve I may have continued that route because it would have been easy for me to cheat... my friend who was sleeved a week after me can eat an entire back of skittles...I cant eat a single skittle or i'll damn near die from the sugar. idk...it was the perfect choice for me. everyone is different. Good luck!!!

Is there anything that surprised you?

I wasn't ready for the overwhelming desire to CHEW food in the first few weeks of post-op. You're on a liquid only diet and all I wanted to do was eat something. I seriously could have been ANYTHING...just that chewing sensation is what I wanted. I wasn't ready for the quick response time to getting full so quickly. I wasn't ready for not feeling hunger. I wasn't ready for how SLOW I had to drink my liquids. I wasn't ready for dumping...even though you know about these things, you aren't always prepared until you actually experience them. but the biggest thing was the chewing thing. Good luck and congratulations!

    Sabotaging myself?

@@Hoping052017 if you don't change your mind...no amount of surgery will help you with the weight. My biggest struggle is sweet things and even though I'm 1.5 years out, I have the daily thought of "Oh EM Gee, I would LOVE a cupcake" but I have enough willpower to say no... even with the surgery I can eat a cupcake. It might take me ALL day to do it but I can do it. This surgery is only a tool but you must know how to use that tool to make it work. I wish you the best of luck!!!

    Chickpea Pasta

costco has Pasta made out of Edamame and it was pretty good! I don't remember the exact nutrition but I just know the calories vs Protein was awesome.

I bought a lot of WLS stuff!

I personally think that the Protein bars you have are not a good enough calorie/sugar/protein ratio for me but i'm really picky about that. I prefer premier Protein Bars and shakes and I won't eat any other kind. I'm over 1.5 years out so I don't rely on those things for my protein intake anymore. I like the tiny baby spoons and i used those for a long time. IDK where you live but we have HyVee grocery stores here in MN and they sell these tiny little forks and I LOVE them I also liked the individual meal containers. I use something similar from Tupperwear. I've joined your page on FB and I'll give you a shout out in my blog. It would be awesome if you could do the same for my blog on your FB page..not an expectation of course . I have a page called "nom nom nom" and under that i have some great food ideas. I look forward to seeing what other great ideas you have!
  25. I think everyone is different so this is something that you'll have to figure out for yourself. I was 220 pre-surgery and I've been steady at 125 for the last year. I had the RNY. My friend had the sleeve 1 week after me and she's consistently been 20 pounds heavier than me but we are now both maintaining for the last 10 months or so. I think that if you want to lose more, you have have to really start working out...I wouldn't necessarily eat less than you are now especially if you're comfortable with your diet. You're right...food has always been everything to us so I would stay where you are in the food area if you're good with it. Remember, this is just a tool to help get where we want to be. Good luck and be proud of everything you've done now!
