I want food!
fatontheinside replied to Misty Barnhart's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I 100% feel your pain and this was my biggest struggle too. I wanted to chew food SO badly during the liquid stage and i would DREAM about food. Watching TV was horrible because of all the commercials. I went to the gas station and saw one of those nasty cheeseburgers and I would have eaten the cardboard if I could!!! You could try chewing something and then spitting it out???? Maybe chew ice cubes...because then its just liquid. My only suggestion is to be strong and know that it will be over in a few days. I know its hard and I remember it like it was yesterday. Good luck!! -

I always mix it first and the add it because you never know the consistency but i'm sure either way would be fine... -
Dumping syndrome
fatontheinside replied to Ellamax's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Welcome to the wonderful world of dumping! I get really bad flu like symptoms when I dump and it happens if I eat too much sugar, anything fried, or anything with too much fat. Sometimes it happens right away and some times its later. Hot, sweats, pain, light headed...all symptoms. I have a lot of great information on my blog about dumping (in nom nom nom). I know this will be TMI to some people but you can always tell a "dumping" poo from a regular poo because of the smell. ugh. This too shall pass! Linda -
oh my gosh its the worst ever! I remember when I was just a week out from surgery, still on the liquid/soft diet and I went to the gas station to fill my car. On the billboard was a picture of this nasty gas station cheeseburger and I would have eaten that damn cardboard sign if my husband would have let me! Holy cow, head hunger is real and a HORRIBLE thing! lol Good luck!!!!

Pre-op diet cheat and feelings of panic
fatontheinside replied to llism's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think everyone has a day where they just flip out...my question to you is, does this happen more often than not? there are days when I want to lick the paint off the walls for no other reason than I can. But, having the self-control to NOT do those things is everything. WLS is 100% mind over matter and not the other way around. I feel your pain...but maybe you may need more therapy to get to the true root of your issue before you get into such a life altering thing as surgery. This surgery can't fix whats broken...its only a tool. I wish you the best of luck in your journey. I know it can be hard to get in the right mind-set. Good luck!! -
Has any1 here had excess skin removal surgery pd by insurance?
fatontheinside replied to DMH82's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would say YES contact your insurance company first and find out what their coverage criteria is...and then contact your doctor. Be specific that if you stop using the powder, your rash comes back. Once you know the info with your insurance company, you can have your doctor submit for you. Oh my goodness! Good luck!!!!! -
Has any1 here had excess skin removal surgery pd by insurance?
fatontheinside replied to DMH82's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm having my panniculectomy in 2 weeks!!!!!!!!!! My pannis (my upper tummy skin flab) hangs below my pubis (my pubic bone). I had skin rashes, I've maintained weight loss for at least 6 months and I have tried and failed regular creams and such for the rash. I also tried to get my arms done but my insurance company (who i happen to work for) denied them as being cosmetic. Check out my blog next week for photos and a surgery update if you're interested -
JamieLogical is right...there isn't a lot of options and this is the part of the journey that I thought was the hardest. I would have killed someone for a gas station cheeseburger! YUCK! lol but I wanted to chew food so badly. be careful and don't go too fast with your food..protein shakes, soups. I even bought a regular soup and used the blender for more flavor. Keep going!!! Linda

Failed psychological evaluation
fatontheinside replied to Georgia_gal24's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@Georgia_gal24I hate to tell you this but theres probably a good reason your doctor failed your psych. I had a friend who failed her psych the first time. She went to a different doctor and they passed her but she was NOT ready for surgery. She does everything she should do...drinks while eating, still drinks pop, eats out for every meal. She was not ready for the psychological issues that go along with surgery. It is a mentally taxing thing to go out with friends and watch them enjoy a meal and you can only take two bites and then you're done. You need to be emotionally ready to understand that you'll have stalls and your friendships may change or you may even lose friendships or your family may not understand. I know its frustrating but your insurance company wants to make sure you will succeed at this because if it doesn't, they'll be paying even more for you for revisions or other medical services. I'm sorry but good luck and keep going! Be strong! Feel free to check out my blog. I write a lot about being emotionally ready for surgery. -
Low-BMI women who have lost quickly - how did you do it?
fatontheinside replied to anonmom's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I don't remember my exact BMI, I think it was 35...I only weighed 230 at the beginning of the process and 214 on surgery day. I'm down to 125 and i've been steady for about a year now (11 months to be exact). I had my surgery June 2015. My main thing is to watch and keep track of what you eat. I had the RNY, not the sleeve. I actually have a co-worker friend that was sleeved 1 week after me and she has lost weight much slower than I did. I write down EVERYTHING I put in my mouth even liquid. I do not drink any caffeine or carbonation. I am SUPER consistent on my food (i eat almost the same thing every day...give or take) and I don't eat any sugar. Sugar is the big thing because it will make you crave other foods. Be active and do what you're suppose to do and you'll be good. Good luck!!!!! -
Potato chip craving? Substitutes?
fatontheinside replied to show1980's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
cheese cheese and more cheese! purely because of the Protein. I know this is going to sound horrible and I don't necessarily condone this but i LOVE salt & pepper pork rinds. 80 calories for 1/2 oz and thats a great amount (about a snack bag full) and it has 8 grams of protein. I don't do it often but they are delicious, the cut the craving and I justify it because it has more protein and less calories than chips. I love beef Jerky too but it doesn't give you the crunch satisfaction. Good luck!! -

Dizzy Spells When Standing
fatontheinside replied to mylighthouse's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This happens to me too and it comes and goes. I can go weeks and be fine and then over the New Year I had it happen for 3 days straight. I almost passed out! I have not checked with my doctor yet (which would be my suggestion to you) but I assume its because our blood pressure is too LOW not too high. I'm not sure if it has anything to do with the caloric intake because on those days I was eating plenty of food (during the holidays) so keep me posted! -
Help what should I do ?
fatontheinside replied to bellabeans's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I work for an insurance company. I'm not totally following your situation here but it sounds like what took place was legit. When it comes to a surgery you have the facility fee, the surgeons fees, the anesthesiologist, and then any other ancillary charges that go along with it. Just because your insurance company approved the surgery, doesn't mean that your claims will be paid at the in-network benefit level. If they are telling you to appeal, I would appeal. If this is indeed a second person or assistant that was in there and they are out-of-network, you had no control over that. I would maybe call and ask to talk to a supervisor so they can explain it a bit better. But if they tell you its still out-of-network, write in and appeal. Whats the worse that could happen? Good luck!!! -
@@kc13 if you go to my blog at https://fatontheinsideblog.wordpress.com/blog/ it is the one labeled "warning". I did a youtube video about shaving my armpits and my hair growing everywhere! lol

I didn't tell many people that I was having surgery so when i started to drop weight it was quite a shock. Only one person actually asked me if i was Ok and it was sort of funny how she said it... I think people are just curious and probably a little jealous...

Looking for alternatives to soda
fatontheinside replied to Robin Weinrich's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@Robin Weinrich I feel your pain. I am 1.5 years out and I still crave Dt. Coke...it was my most FAVORITE thing. I would probably give my left arm for a diet coke. You're right tho...surgery changes your taste buds and I haven't quite figured out why. I only drink Water now...but at the beginning I tried everything under the sun... Do you like milk? I craved chocolate milk for a while but couldn't have it because of the sugar. I found that Fairlife milk is good and I mix half the chocolate and half white for a good mix. What about the refreshers from starbucks? They are low in sugar...I drink decaf green tea now and that actually curbs my "hunger"... I say it with quotes because i'm convinced its all in my head not my tummy. crystal light... sugar free tea... sadly...nothing will replace the bubbles. -
Words of wisdom
fatontheinside replied to nevergoingback's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Honestly, I eat darn near exactly what @@Diana_in_Philly eats. I eat cannon light & fit yogurt, 3oz of sandwich meat rolled with a slice of cheddar for lunch and a lean Protein such as chicken breast for dinner. If I need a snack, i'll eat beef Jerky. My new passion is scrambled eggs with avocado. I love the pure Protein shakes if I can't get in enough protein but i'm 1.5 years out so its pretty easy for me. Try Fairlife milk if you need a little extra protein. Good luck!! -
