How often do you check your progress?
Kryssa replied to sleepyjean's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I weigh myself almost every morning; for me it is about accountability... But I only take my measurements quarterly...and only then because my gym does them. I go by the fit of my clothes. -
I get a pain with the first or second bite...every single time I eat solid food. I wait for the plopping feeling of the food going through, and then I can eat pretty much anything. Soooooo I am going to get another fill tomorrow. You may not be "beating" you band, you might not be tight enough. of course I am only losing 1/2 lb. a week so take that advice with a grain of salt!

It was my third fill before I felt any restriction at all...and I still don't have much! My fourth fill is Wednesday; I am praying for good results. Good luck to you on Thursday, I hope you get what you are looking for!

EVERY single time I eat solid food I ache for about the first five minutes after the second bite. :thankyou: Sometimes I slime too. But NO WAY am I too tight! If I wait out the ache I can eat and eat and eat... :phanvan You may need to wait it out too. Wait for the yuck to receed and then try another bite, well chewed. If it hurts, wait again. Then try it again. :hungry: It took me forever to figure out my band. Turns out I hurt at the beginning instead of the end, I've always been abit backwards!

I'd been off anti-depressants for 3 years when I was banded. 2 months later, I was back on them. I was mourning food, it was like my best friend had died. My PCP said I'd been self-medicating with food, and since I couldn't do that anymore...anyway, I woke up this morning with this big smile on my face. The hormonal/serotonin swings have ended and even if I am working 65 hours a week right now, I'm OK. Unfortunately, spouses sometimes have this problem with realizing the emotional swings won't last forever. You just had surgery and You are delicate right now, you need support right now, and you will be better later. Six months from now, those nuts will probably not bother you in the least. I thought I'd grown resigned to DH's late night PBJ thing, but for the first 2 months, I cried everytime he made one. Now, I don't care and have even been known to make them for him. Jeez, I ramble alot, don't I? Anyway, hope it helps.

I called and got an earlier appointment after my first "no help at all restriction-wise" fill. He did the 2nd fill 2 weeks after the 1st fill and then another a week later. I still don't have alot of restriction, but I "have" to wait a month after the 3rd fill. See him again next week and I'm hoping the fourth one is the charm.

Amen to that. Anyone know a good surgeon that does body lifts in the Savannah (GA) - Hilton Head (SC) area?
-
Ooo Ooo I hope I feel like that next week. I go in for my fourth fill too...I can still eat alot and gulp water. Congrats on the restriction!

On another note, anyone here like Nectar? I've got 2 big containers, one scoop missing from each. It totally burns my tongue. Ouch!

You should try Designer Whey at GNC. They have one in a tropical punch flavor; I mix that with a packet of crystal light fruit punch. It's almost like koolaid.

Make sure you wait a bit before going under the knife. My sister lost quite a bit of weight last year and when she came home last Christmas she looked sick...but now, a year later, the remaining fat in her body has redistributed itself and she looks great!

Cute. I needed a chuckle this morning.

Aspartame is the devil. It's a migraine trigger for me, and if I don't get a headache I eat the house 2 hours after ingesting it. Splenda is better, no headaches and not as much hunger. Stevia is great, but hard to use and extremely expensive too. Some mornings I just put the sugar in my coffee...at least its natural and cheap.

Amen, I feel exactly the same way! My DH thought surgery was a last resort, he didn't realize it might not work for me like it does for others. I've lost 10 lbs. in 14 weeks and I can tell he is baffled. And it hurts to see the disappointment in my mother's eyes. Crystal, I know my problems are nothing like yours...I've followed your struggle and I hurt for you. Good luck with the new doc.

This was so familiar to me! I lost 55 lbs. (310 to 255) after my ex-husband walked out on me, so my PCP was convinced that if I stuck to a diet I could lose the weight. Um, no. The only way I managed to lose that weight was because I was an emotional wreck and I didn't eat hardly anything for nearly six months. I'm talking like 1 lean pocket a day. Once I recovered, it was only natural that I started to eat again...and the weight loss stopped. My insurance made me go on a 6 month diet and exercise plan before they would cover my surgery (as if dieting had never occured to me!). 1200 calories, Water aerobics twice a week, and cardio/strength training twice a week. I lost 2  pounds! :faint: I have had so many people tell me it is my fault I am so heavy. My sister lost 50 lbs last year (now 125) and she is of the "if I can do it so can you" mindset. People at church have suggested I try the "Body by God" class. My mom used to tell me Snacks and junk food were only for my brother and sister, who didn't have a weight problem, and not for me because I was so fat. If anyone should have "gotten it", it should have been Mom, after all, it's her butt I've inherited! Anyway, all of this is the reason I told noone about my surgery. They just DO NOT get it! I am doing this for me, not the ignorant normies. Thanks for letting me vent...you guys are awesome!

I'm already planning and saving for my TT and arm lift. I saw a cosmetic surgeon BEFORE my WLS (cyst removed, no big deal) and he said with the apron of skin I already have around my tummy it will never shrink back AND it will cause me lower back pain. It's really bad, I can stick my hand under it and you can't see my hand! Like Jacqui said, short apples having babies: that's me! As far as the arms, they hang halfway to my waist already, I'm not counting on them firming up. One of my major weight loss related goals is sleeveless shirts. It's so hot here...it was 70 yesterday and it's January! I don't know about having anything else done, I'm not trying to get the perfect body, I will settle for not frightening!

Cindy, I so feel your pain. I lost 10 lbs while I was on liquids and mushies and then put them back on over the next 5 weeks before my first fill. I've had 3 fills, but the only time I've managed to lose weight was when I had the stomach flu! I'm always hungry and I feel like everyone is losing but me. I was banded 10/18, I was told weight loss was greatest in those first few months, but God I hope that's not the case for me... My next fill is 1/25, I really hope it does the trick. Good luck with your fill too!

Before I found the right medicine, I had migraines 3-5 days a week! I take topamax as a prophylactic and Axert or MaxAlt as needed for breakthrough headaches. MaxAlt is great because it disolves under your tongue. I've actually had fewer migraines since banding. Keep promethazine handy for the nausea and you will be fine.

Hello! Calling all Georgians, anybody there?
Kryssa replied to divaliciousdee's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I had my band done by his partner, Dr. Henderson. They provide wonderful aftercare: fills, nutritionist, and psychological. I can usually get an appointment for fills the same week I call. Sandra, the NP, is a darling and will answer questions for as long as you will ask them. I've had three fills so far, Dr. H always hits the port the first time with no pain to speak of. What else can I tell you? -
My doctor said I should weigh between 115-140 lbs. at 5'3" to be a normal weight. Any more than that and I'll be overweight. I've been overweight my whole life, I can't imagine being "normal". I decided on 135 lbs. as a goal. I've seen a cosmetic surgeon, he said if I got down to 175 lbs. the rest would be taken off in skin etc. so that is my actual weight loss goal...

My nutritionist said that the reason bypass patients sometimes stink is that their food actually rots and decays in their intestines before it comes out. They don't eat enough to have regular BMs, so everything goes through too slowly. Benefiber, anyone?
-
That happens to me almost every time I eat :ermm . I have finally come to realize my band is going to ache with the first bite of every meal for the rest of my life. Once resignation sets in (and panic goes away) you will be fine. The ache does go away, and usually I finish my meal w/ no problem. Sometimes it helps to burp, sometimes you've just got to wait it out. Good Luck finding what works for you.

I had a munching week before surgery, but I saved the best for last. Sushi! About 5 rolls most dipped in shrimp sauce. My mouth is watering just thinking about it.

I mentioned in another post that I have a problem with the first bite blues every time that I try to eat. Well, since my last fill has kicked in , I am noticing other things that are weird about my level of restriction. I have the worst trouble eating at night. At lunch, I am wide open, and I can eat ALOT :rolleyes . But for some reason by dinnertime, my band locks down. It doesn't matter what I eat, or how well I chew it, or how big the bite is. I am going to slime and it usuallycomes up (not the food, just the mucus). I don't know about breakfast, frankly I've never been a morning eater (protein shake at 7:30, coffee at 8:30). I thought most people were looser in the PM. Does anyone else have dinner problems?

Yes, the needle is huge. But I promise, you shouldn't feel it. I've never been numbed either. It makes kind of a pop sound when the needle enters the port, but other than that it's nothing.
