OP- Everyone has a different preop diet. Your nutritionist should have given you a list of acceptable and permitted foods. You are essentially starving. I'm almost done with my preop diet (surgery is Weds) and they tell everyone else clear liquids the day before but because I'm working a 12 hours shift the day before I get to have protein shakes as well. If it were that easy to shrink a liver alcoholics who have fatty liver could just stop drinking for two weeks. The real purpose is to reduce abdominal girth and put you at a lower BMI so the surgery is successful and get you used to not eating solid food since it is so critical in the early stages of the diet. I don't looks at this as breakfast lunch dinner etc I look at this as drink something all day so I don't fall over. Try Tylenol for your headache and stick with the plan your doctor gave you.

Most people have low vitamin D esp in the winter. It's very common. And no, it shouldn't affect your approval.

I'm an RN - signing out AMA can make your insurance company refuse payment and then the bill is your responsibility. Also signing out AMA signals to your care team that you don't want help. If you're in pain and have an obstruction you need to stay in the hospital until it's resolved. We don't usually jump to surgery as a "let's see what's going on in here" it's why we have CT scans and contrast dye, so not to be curt but you're getting pissed for no reason and cutting off your nose to spite your face. I smoked for 20 years and quit two years ago by vaping. I stepped down to 0 mg and then stopped vaping. With that being said I love smoking. If I knew it wouldn't eventually take my legs I'd be smoking while I type this. You do need to tackle smoking first. The stress and the changes are going to make you want to smoke even more. This is no way constitutes medical advice however I would tell you that if the pain is in your back it's very possible that without nausea and vomiting,fever or shaking chills the pain may be more related to your GU system instead of GI. You can go to urgent care first and explain your symptoms - they would likely run a urinalysis which could rule in or out things like UTI or bladder infections or kidney stones. Quitting smoking is easy. I know I must have done it 10 times. I smoke 20 years and quit two years ago by vaping. I don't vape anymore either after reaching 0 mg of nicotine. I quit after my mother was diagnosed with PAD - a smoking related disease which causes painful, insufficient blood flow to the legs. The surgery is a reason to quit but don't make it the only reason.
