Yeah I read the binder the bariatric center gave me yesterday and I know why I think i should have the surgery. I just get really high anxiety in cases like that and then it's hard to talk and breathe lol. Pray for meJust be ready to state your case.

I guess I'm just scared that because my bmi is only 40.2 she will tell me I'm "too healthy" to have the surgery....Dont be worried. With me he just looked at my health history, asked about what kind of exercising I do, why I want to have surgery and gave me the chance to ask questions.

Are you sure they look at your highest weight and not current? Do you know how I could verify that before I go weigh in this week?I think each surgeon and each patient is different. There is also what the hospital will approve and what insurance would approve. Those are not always the same. Good luck and I hope they approve you.

I was told bmi of 40 or above don't need comorbidity though...

Oh yeah that was the seminar I had. People would call it the orientation which is why it's confusing lolMaybe we are talking about the same appointment? I had a first class that was pretty much about the nutrition and not much about the surgery and wasn't with an actual surgeon. The orientation actually had a surgeon there and was more than 50% about the surgery.

I cant because my bmi was 39.8 last time I weighted with no comorbidities so I worked on getting to 40bmi for when they weigh me then I can lose. If that makes sense. The orientation sounds a lot like the seminar though. I wish they would combine everything lol you know they would remember that we work ahahThe orientation is a one time only class. It's just a group of people and the surge and nutritionist go through the generic process so people can decide if it's right for them before they sit down with everyone individually.
One thing they stressed in orientation was that if you were already losing weight to not worry because they would use it towards your progress. They use your highest recorded kaiser weight in the last year. I wish I would have used the time before my orientation to lose some weight. I would be at my goal if I did. I suggest you start losing now to speed the process.

It was about 2 weeks ago I think. Is it a one time class? I'm a teacher so I don't know how I am going to be able to miss so much work if it is recurringYou can try. They are on Thursdays only. Some are 2pm and some are 9am.
They called me immediately once my primary referred me to set it up so I would guess since you have a referral they would schedule you an orientation class.
When was the last time you were weighed in a kaiser facility?

Dr. Chu in fremont. Where are you going again? For me I just had to go to the orientation. Then had an appointment that was with a surgeon, nutritionist, and program coordinator (all in one appointment). Now I am working on the required weight loss. Next is the psych exam then it's surgery.
I was up to date on all my testing so I didn't need to do anything. I have heard of other people needing additional testing; sleep studies, CT scans, etc. But that all depends on yours and your families history and whether your surgeon thinks it's necessary. Who is the surgeon you are meeting with?

So what is required? I'm going insane here lol I want to get started not just wait for my surgeon appointment I feel like I've waited my whole life lol ????Kaiser NorCal has a nutrition program like that but it's not required in order to have surgery.

What kaiser are you with? I tried to call fremont but no one picked up
When you say orientation it's the one after the seminar right? If so, did you already have an appointment with your surgeon? I have my appointment on the 25th but I want to start the classes before

Oh no im sorry to hear for the wait. Good luck until March. I am already going crazy so I can't imagineI am going to loyolas bariatric clinic in Chicago. I finally got a call today to schedule my appointments. I have to see the bariatrican, dietitian and psychologist in that order. Unfortunately the first appointment with the bariatrican is march 8th! And then the other 2 appointments are on march 16. I am thankfully on the waiting list to see if someone cancels sooner. I sure hope so, considering it's 2 months away.

I just had the center on the phone, they called me to book the phone appointment with the surgeon. I thought it was an in-person appointment. Anybody else had a phone appointment? Mine is for january 25th I wish I had one earlier lol

I heard the 10% varies depending on your bmi. And I am not right now because my bmi is borderline 40 and i dont have comorbidities so don't want to risk going below it until I'm approved. I hope they call me tomorrow too. When do you plan on having your surgery? ish

I completely understand. I work at a school district too and I want to get it done asap either February break or April break. I don't want to wait until summer. Are you with kaiser? Knowing myself, ill probably call tomorrow before the weekend to check how it works...im so impatient ahahI am also waiting to hear from my bariatric clinic. I submitted my patient information and did an online seminar 1.5 weeks ago. I called the other day to verify that they weren't waiting on anything on my end. The receptionist said my insurance was contacted and approved (called insurance and was told inpatient surgery is covered at 100% after referral!) and they are just waiting on the nurse to go through my paperwork before making my first appointment. She said it may take a week to hear, so I'm hoping to hear early next week! I want to get the ball rolling and hopefully have surgery over the summer as I work in the school district.

Hi everyone! I just received my referral today from my physician to do the weight loss surgery in fremont kaiser. I completed the seminar. I was wondering how long once your doctor refers you does it take to hear from the bariatric center and start the whole evaluation?
Thanks

Thank you ! it's good to hear. I hope I can make the BMI for my insurance to get approved. May I ask what insurance you have?
-
Thank you HArmonylynn. Did they seem picky about the clothing that you wore? I am asking because I dont have any comorbidities but my BMI is close to 40 like a few pts so I could put on some heavy clothes to reach the 40 bmi to get approved.

Hi everyone,
I just got my referral from my primary care physician to get bariatric surgery with kaiser and I was wondering if those who have been through the evaluation process (with all the tests, doctors, weigh in) could describe how it works and specifically if they had to weigh in with the surgeon with or without clothes?
Thank you
