Congrats surgery twin. You look amazing. Awesome job! I'm waiting another week to post mine. It's not the right time of the month to be taking pictures

Pre op they told me to loose 3-5 kg, how I did it was up to me. Post up, for the first 6 weeks I was told to limit fat to 15g pr 100g and sugar to 8g pr 100g due to the risk of dumping. After that, I got cleared to eat anything I wanted. Trial and error to see what I could tolerate. Ice cream is a no go. The sugar/fat combination is just too high. But full fat cheese on it's own is not a problem.

Yoga and Exercising Post-Op
Meryline replied to chasingpolaris321's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was told I should walk a lot, but was cleared for all types of exercise at 3 weeks. Remember you have wounds on the inside as well, and they need to heal. Max amount of weight to lift before the 3 weeks was 10 lbs. You might feel great, but it's a huge change for your body. -
Best way to Stop Losing Weight
Meryline replied to Apple1's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I would think yours is way more accurate than mine. This was done with a some device on my arm, I have never seen anything like it. Like I said, it gives me an indication. I don't plan to up my kcal just yet, I want to loose more weight, but at least I know I'm going in the right direction. -
Best way to Stop Losing Weight
Meryline replied to Apple1's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
So we had a health day at work today, and had the opportunity to get our bodyfat and a few other values measured. It is not as accurate as a DEXA scan, but it gives an indication. My fat % is 24.3% or 18.7kg. I should loose another 0.2 kg, which is like half a pound of fat. And to get into ideal range, about 3kg or 6-7 lbs of fat. My muscle mass is 75.7% or 58.3kg. My weight is 77kg. My BMI is 28.3. Because I have such high fat free musclmass, I don't need to get unto normal BMI. My muscle protein is 8.4kg which is very good. My BMR is 1450, and I should be able to keep my weight stable at around 1800-2000 kcal depending on what I'm doing that day. I am so pleased with these results. -
Trying on smaller sizes
Meryline replied to SIPS in Seattle's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Try on often. I missed out on some clothes in my closet because I didn't think they would fit, and when I finally tried them on, they were way too big. At one point I dropped a whole size in 2 weeks. No kidding. And in the same 2 weeks, the scale didn't really budge. I have gone from a 18 to 6-10 at this point, depending on brand and material. -
You surgery was just 9 days before mine. I have also lost 85+ lbs. I have noticed that when I keep my kcal really low, I stall, when I increase, I start loosing again. I'm very active, average around 15 000 - 20 000 steps a day, gym (weights), nordic walking and swimming. I'm anywhere from 900 to 1200, sometimes even 1400 kcal a day. Just on Saturday I was out hiking, using an extra 1300 calories above my normal number. Eating just 1200 kcal is not going to cut it. As for loosing for a year. Weight loss can stop at any time. Normal is between 6-12 months. I lost pretty steadily up until this point, but now I'll drop like 3-4 lbs in a week, and then stall or gain for 2-3 weeks before I loose again.

Completely normal to gain weight right after surgery. It's fluids they pump you full of in the hospital as well as, you just had major surgery. Stay away from the scale for a few weeks to let your body settle.

Best way to Stop Losing Weight
Meryline replied to Apple1's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I think I was referring to some of the other comments on here @Apple1 People are very quick to say that this will give you dumping or that will give you cravings or it won't, when we all need to try and fail and try and succeed on our own. I know fat doesn't give me dumping, but fat and sugar combined will. Sugar alone doesn't. (Meaning chocolate and dairy based ice cream is a no go, and that is perfectly fine) WLS is not a once size fit all. if it were, it would be a 100% success rate -
Best way to Stop Losing Weight
Meryline replied to Apple1's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Just because some people don't have carvings when eating complex carbs it doesn't mean others won't. And some might get dumping from something, others might not. We are all so very different. What works for some might not work for others. I can't stomach any legumes. Hello bloating, nausea, even vomiting. I can handle two. Peanuts and Chickpeas made into hummus. Others than that, they are a no go for me. The most important thing is to figure out what works for you. It can be keto, vegan, what we in Austria/Norway call "the common man's diet" (meaning a normal diet with carbs, fat and protein, little to no fast food. Basically what grandma makes every day). Don't follow a diet because it is a trend, follow it because it is right for you, and it's something you can live with. One thing, last time I was at my support group I was just over 4 months out, eating around 800-1000 calories. We talked about all the activity I was doing, and I was told that I seriously need to increase on days I'm very active. And I'm still in active weight loss phase. If I continued, I would slowly break down my body. I was told I need to add more complex carbs (I was doing 20g at the time) and more healthy fat just to get the calories up. Oil, nuts, avocado, seeds, especially flax seeds, I eat dairy, so I also added some more cheese. Is it hard at times, sure, but when I on days like Saturday, have 1350 active calories, I know 1200 calories in is not going to cut it. -
I think I've messed up.
Meryline replied to meanlenevsg's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Really? If you are so sure she'll cause a leak, why don't you call the surgeon for her. I mean, you are convinced she will. I have said what I had to say. And I stand by all of it. -
I think I've messed up.
Meryline replied to meanlenevsg's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I didn't, I just said that odds are minimal. She didn't ask if it was a smart idea to do what she did, she already said it wasn't. She was worried about causing a leak. I already said that I'm not a doctor, but if the risk was so high that she definitely would cause a leak, no program would have you eating solids by day 4. Several European countries start way earlier with food than the US. Norway by day 10, Austria by day 4, and I don't know the exact day for several others, but I know it's earlier than the US. The doctors over here don't do it for fun, it's not like they gamble with our lives more than in the US. So not, im not a doctor, I don't have x-ray vision and I'm not saying she 100% doesn't have a leak. Odds are though, that at 2 weeks out, a couple of bites will not cause a leak. -

Meryline replied to meanlenevsg's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Seriously? She asked if she could cause a leak. I told her that my program has you on food by day 4 for both bypass and sleeve. I was just reassuring her that the odds of her causing a leak is minimal. Nothing else. -

Meryline replied to meanlenevsg's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I know programs are different and hers doesn't allow food so early. And I agree that she should follow her program and work on the mental aspect of it. The reason I mentioned it was because she was worried about it causing a leak. If the risk of causing a leak would be that high, no program would have you on solids by day 4. I'm not saying that it can't, I'm no doctor, but odds are, it won't. That doesn't mean she should go ahead and continue deviating from her program. -

Meryline replied to meanlenevsg's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Just another side to it. My program has us eating normal food by day 4. We have to chew it very well, and there are restrictions, but pasta with cheese and skinless chicken was allowed. It didn't matter if you had the Sleeve or the RNY, normal food by day 4. -
Scared they didnt remove enough of my stomach
Meryline replied to ReadyforChangeChan's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Fluids goes straight though. After surgery, you probably had to do a leak test. If you paid attention, you could see the fluids pass quickly through the stomach. And as long as you sip sip ( later larger amount at once won't be a problem) there should be no reason it shouldn't pass through quickly. -
What is your goal time? Are you talking fuel before or during? For a 10k around an hour, no need to fuel during. As for before, I would get protein in, a good breakfast 2h ahead of time. And if you need it, a banana about 45-30min before the race. For my fastest half marathon to date (pre surgery), I had eggs and bacon for breakfast about 2 h before. During the race I used nuts and water. Time was 2:14. Good luck!

Leftovers, eh, not interested!
Meryline replied to heycrystal2052's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I don't know what I would do without meal prep. I eat 5-6 times a day, and at least 3 of those meals are warm, 2 at work. There is no way I could do what without meal prep or leftovers. I usually eat 2 warm pre made meals at work, and a fresh prepped warm meal at home. I batch make up to 30 portions at the time and freeze. I have a variety of 5-6 different meals in the freezer and just pick what I would like. It saves me so much time. -

Absolutely fun. We'll see where it ends up at the end. Time will tell. Being so close to initial goal, I'm starting to think of every lbs lost from her on out is a bonus. I'm still working hard to drop more, but I'm starting to feel good in my own body. -
Best way to Stop Losing Weight
Meryline replied to Apple1's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
No, at 5 months I'm 171, which will land me around 120. I did play around with it to get around 72 lost at 5 months. I lost over 12 lbs during my 2 week pre op, making at total of 84, but only 72 from surgery day. If that makes sense. -
Best way to Stop Losing Weight
Meryline replied to Apple1's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
First, congrats on hitting a new low on the BMI scale. Always a great feeling. I tried it the way you described, and according to this, I should hit 120 lbs I was 84 lbs down at 5 months out, but that is including the 2 weeks pre op diet. I adjusted the weight and what I had lost after surgery. Anything below 150 is a bonus, but I highly doubt I'll be anywhere close to 120. -
Down a total of 15 pounds so far!
Meryline replied to torriqurll's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I do it daily as well. I don't let the number bother me though. It's a control mechanism for me. In the past, not going on the scale has been an indicator that I'm not right and gaining weight. So now I make sure I get on there every day, but I track weekly and monthly to see the trend. -
1 week post op bypass, can drink 8oz
Meryline replied to Tatted_Wanderer's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Swallow/leak test. It's where you drink nasty fluids while in front of an x-ray machine to make sure there are no leakage from your pouch. -
Food Post WLS Question?
Meryline replied to FluffyChix's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I'm 5 months post op, and already at 6 weeks they wanted me to add veggies (my plan has me eating normal food by day 4). I eat 5-6 meals a day, and some are mostly protein while others are a combination of protein and veggies. I'm getting my protein in, so I'm sticking to it. -

Meryline replied to Tatted_Wanderer's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Liquids goes straight through you. Broth is basically flavored water. No need to worry. Did you do the swallow test after surgery? There we could see that liquids ran straight through.
