    Will I ever learn?????

It's an Austrian brand, but my stomach does so well on their electrolytes. https://peeroton.com/ I drink it during my runs, but also in the days leading up to a long race, like a half marathon, and I feel so great. I can't do gels.

    Protein and Weight Loss (unrelated)

There is no shame on her, I'm sorry, but because it goes against what everyone else has heard, it sounds like a made up rule. Now replacing a meal with shakes it's different. And no I don't care what your nutritionist said, it's not the protein shakes that drives the weight loss, it's the calorie deficit you are in. Protein helps you feel full and retain some muscles, but it doesn't drive the weight loss. Follow your doctor, but question things that goes against every other doctor. I have lost over 100lbs and I started food 4 days after surgery. Food and shakes to get enough protein. I still drink a shake a day, but as a supplement to get enough, which is 120-150g a day. I drink it on top of all my meals.

    Food Before and After Photos

@FluffyChix it's spelt. It's pre cooked so I just add it to my meal that I meal prep, and then when I heat it in the micro, it's all the cooking it need. Or the last 3 min to a stew of sorts.
  4. Not true. Here in Austria we start normal food at day 4. It has to be chewed to mush, and there are restrictions, like no seeds etc, but we start solid food on day 4. Day 1 is water, day 2 is soup, 3 is yogurt and 4 is solids. But, you can't eat the amount the OP mentions. You have to eat within a 20min window and follow all the rules etc. I started the gym 4 weeks post op. Cleared of course.

    Food Before and After Photos

I need to join this thread, lots of inspiration. Will post stuff as well, but I was already eating my lunch as I discovered the thread hehe My new favorite carb right now is this. I add it to a lot of meals, 50g max. So easy, love the texture, and filling. Having some with my chicken right now. Energie 606 kj / 143 kcal Fat 1,1 g Saturated 0,2 g Carbs 27 g Of which are Sugar 0,3 g Fiber 3,1 g Protein 4,8 g Salt 0,69 g
  6. Honestly, food. You need to get more food in you. Something muschy. Try mashed potatoes, soups, something that will give you energy. With your weight being so low already, drinking only shakes and water at this stage is too little.
  7. I have only told 2 family members, my mom and my aunt, my dad doesn't even know. I find it easier to tell strangers than it is to tell my own family. They shouldn't judge you or be against you taking care of your health. Wait until you have a date, until you start liquid diet, which I assume you have to be on, I didn't, but in the US, everyone does. It will give you more time, but also more information from your doctors etc. to inform them why this is something you want to do. Good luck, best decission I ever made.

    Protein and Weight Loss (unrelated)

This is the first time I have ever heard anything like that. We were told from. One protein source. So we should count from fish or cheese or meat, tofu etc, but not count the protein that was in a none typical protein source. If you understand what I mean. Also, you are suppose to get of the shakes st one point. Solid protein will keep you full for way longer than any shake will.

Weight Loss 8 weeks after VSG

Sounds like you had quite a big surgery. For them to say it isn't enough is ridiculous. Your body is healing. It scares me how calories driven it is in the US. Here in Austria we started normal food with restrictions after 4 days. Everything had to be chewed to mush, but it was food. And there was no counting calories, only counting protein to make sure you got 60g. There was a lot of stuff that was forbidden for the first 6 weeks, but no liquid diet before or after surgery. You are doing great. Keep up the good work.

    Unbalanced weight loss - WTF

Never forget leg day as they say. Strength training for your legs is what you need. https://www.bodybuilding.com/content/5-leg-workouts-for-mass-a-beginners-guide.html

    Protein and Weight Loss (unrelated)

I'm 2.5 years post op and I about 130-150g of protein a day. My protein levels are too low if I don't, and I still get tested about every 3 months. I do work out a lot though, 5-8 times a week with mostly endurance sport, which is why I need so much.

    Hunger and working out

If you are below target weight, and you want to add muscles, you need to increase your calorie intake. Muscles need calories, and if you don't up the intake, you'll continue to lose. I'm not talking adding 1000 kcal, but 200-300 kcal on days you work out. At this point, being 2.5 years out, I eat 2500-3000 kcal a day (sometimes even more). But I also do endurance sport. I lifted weights the first year post op, now it's mostly mobility work and weights targeted for running.

Weight Loss 8 weeks after VSG

You'll feel amazing about your progress if you don't compare yourself to everyone else. Easie said than done, but very important. We all go at different pace, just emprace it and celebrate your achievement.

    exercises post-op

A quick google search gave me this program, where you don't need a lot of machines, but your gym should have what you need. https://www.shape.com/fitness/workouts/strength-training-beginners Not too complicated, explained well and works everything. Strength is such an important step for your success. Good luck.
  15. Wow, congrats to you @AZhiker. I'm actually Norwegian, but I live in Austria. So my issue is that I don't eat any legumes, tofu, or soy, (I have tried them all in so many varaiations) which limits my protine source if I were to go WFPB. I have found a good electrolyte that my stomach accepts, but it's Austrian. Will be bringing it to my race in the States for sure. When I run, I have issues chewing a lot, so so far the bars I have tried are too much chewing hehe. I guess I just need to keep experimenting. I think i need to add more nuts for post race consumption, easy to grab and I think it's something I would have no problem eating.
  16. Thank you @anaxila. I did one triathlon back in 2012, before back went out on me, and I hope one day I'll get back there. And even though I have always said I'll never do a marathon, I have been toying with the idea in the past weeks. It is recommended that you eat within 30 min after a run, especially if it's a fasted run or if you do as I do, wait 2 hours after I eat to go running. Also when I do 2 workouts a day, I need to regenerate for the second workout. I haven't talked to anyone on what nutrition I should follow, and I'm probably not getting enough of what I need. For now it's been fine, but I think as time goes, it's going to tear on my body. I am having more and more episodes of lack of energy and having to drop workouts. Right now I'm training for a Disney in February, 10k and half Saturday and Sunday. Another challenge in September with 5k, 10k, half on consecutive days. Between there I want to do a half under 2h. My last one, 2 weeks ago, was 2:05.

How do I cut the candy?

I think I need to make my own. I have yet to find some that I really like. That way I can also get the texture that I want.

How do I cut the candy?

OMG! Wow, thank you so much. I have never known about oral fixation, but it makes so much sense, and it explains so much, so much. Here are some examples I keep a cherry stone in my mouth for hours, playing with it. When I cut of tags of new clothes, I'll put the plastic thing in my mouth and play with it for a long time I chew on headphones cables I put everything in my mouth. I don't suck on candy, chew it. I chew soft candy, hard candy. There has to be something going on other than sucking. (it sounds so pervy lol) I most definitely need to find other solutions to this But just knowing there is a name for it, that it actually is something.

How do I cut the candy?

Thank you, I should. I have a problem getting food into me after workouts. Normally you shouldn't go longer than 30min, but I can't eat that quick. Usually it takes 1-2 hours or longer. I'm trying to do smoothies to see if that helps. And here it's where I can take a few pieces of candy, and they are no problem. The idea of food though....no.

How do I cut the candy?

Thanks. I'll look into that. Going to the states in February to run a 10k and a half marathon in Disney, so if I can't get it before then and I haven't kicked that addition yet, I'll have a look.

How do I cut the candy?

I actually remember you from when I used to be here all the time. Always so helpful. Thank you! I need to look into making something myself. SF is an issue. I need to work out what doesn't give me a stomach ache. I'll take any advice I can get. I don't mind losing more, problem is, I start looking very dragged in the face. Time will tell what happens if I get rid of this candy addiction. Definitely need to sit down and plan out alternatives. I think by actually posting about them here, I'm admitting to myself that it's an issue that needs to be dealt with.

How do I cut the candy?

Sugar free gives me a stomach ache. I have tried. Also, the options here in Austria are not the biggest. I most definitely don't need them. I think it's convenience, boredom and texture. On top of addiction.

    Any cyclists around?

I'm a spinning instructor, but also a distance runner. I have tried out so many different things for fules during my long runs. What works for me is actually sour candy. I know it sounds strange, but I start out around 30 min into the race and take one piece every km. That along with electrolyte drinks works for me. What is important is that you try out different things for your long rides way in advance of your race. Nothing new on race day or the week prior.
  24. Thanks for your input. Whoever came up with 1200 kcal for women *shaking my head* (not directed at you, but at the number 1200kcal) My surgeon and NUT don't go by calories. Never have. I also have a BMR of 1495 (at goal, it was almost 2000 before surgery). Already at 6 months I was eating 1500 kcal and loosing. I walk everywhere, lift heavy weights and I'm a spinning instructor. I would keel over if I eat 1200 kcal a day. (now, not right after surgery when I obviously was eating way less than 1200kcal) My question wasn't so much about kcal as it was about volume/weight of food. Thank you, and good luck at reaching your goal, you can do it.
  25. So I'm 15 months post op in a week and a half. I'm at goal, technically, and I'm fairly happy. I have retained a lot of muscles and lost mostly fat. I have noticed lately that way too much sugar has crept it's way back into my diet, and I'm working hard on correcting that. I have gained few lbs from my low low at 1 year post up, but it's more a fluctuation than a gain. I know thought, that I have to watch out so it doesn't turn in to a gain if I don't watch out. ( I can't really eat chocolate or ice cream, it makes me sick, but sadly gummy candy is no problem at all) My surgeon had us at food just a few days after surgery. It wasn't much, but it was solid (had to be chewed to puree before swallowing. After a few months we should be at about 5 oz. Which I did. Now I can eat a lot more. Which I know is also normal. I can't eat a normal portion, for sure, but I can also eat a lot more than 5 oz, a little depending on what it is. Like I can eat a lot salad with protein, than I can eat just plain chicken breast. My NUT wants each meal to include protein, veggies and complex carbs. That means I can often eat 7-10 oz. at a meal. I don't eat until I'm stuffed. I know I shouldn't compare myself to other people, but when I see people at 1 year post op eating 4-5 oz, which I was doing at 4-5 months post up, it makes me wonder. I am still drinking one shake a day because my protein lvl are too low, even at 120-150g of protein a day. How much are you eating at 1+ year post op? How much does your NUT want you to eat? Are you still doing shakes?
