How much time in the hospital?

My hospital had me come in the day before. They did some test that day, and then I was first in line for surgery the next morning. I left the hospital 2 days after my surgery. I could have stayed a day longer, most do here in Austria. I think in the US most people leave the day after surgery is everything went well.

    Over eating

I make sure I have a water bottle or a bottle with liquids around at all times. Every time I want to grab for something, I grab my water bottle. I don't want to grab for food so much any more, but I want my bottle of water. Helps to get my liquids in, and I make sure I stay away from grazing.

I HAVE GIVEN UP ON DRINKING WATER!!

I was told by the vets at my support group, people 5-15 years out, that they still have problems with water at times. And that water with flavor or tea (warm or cold) works much better.

    Not losing

Just to add to what @Introversion is saying. If you are snacking all the time, are you keeping the food and water time delay as you should. Wait at least 30 min (preferably longer) to drink after you have eaten.
  5. Thankfully I didn't have to ask for it. I told my boss I was having the surgery. He knew I would be gone. And when I came back I had papers from the hospital indicating that I stayed there for 4 days, and then a medical excuse from my primary for the remaining time. I know it's different in the US though.
  6. Not really a plateau either. You are not going to continue to lose 19 lbs every 3 weeks. 1 lbs a week is considered normal weight loss if you didn't have surgery. It doesn't mean you are at a plateau after surgery, it just means that your body is catching up to the rapid weight loss you had the first 3 weeks. I'm 16 weeks out, and loosing anywhere from 0.5 to 4-5 lbs a week. It's still weight loss, not a plateau or a stall.

    Help tired all the time!!!

Are you getting enough nutrition? Liquids? Second thing to check is Iron and B12 and the rest of your values. If you are worried I would check with your surgeon.
  8. 16 weeks post op yesterday. 18 weeks since pre op diet. 70 lbs down. Unbelievable really

    Breads Post Surgery

I wasn't allowed fresh bread until after 6 weeks. I was allowed a day old bread before that. Now I eat whole wheat tortilla once in a while, usually leaving a lot of it behind, and I eat a high protein bread if I ever get a craving for bread.
  10. Just out of curiosity, how can you be in a stall of you have lost 4 lbs? A stall is not loosing anything for 3 weeks or more.
  11. Here in Austria we go through the whole clear liquids, liquids, pure and solids in 4 days. Both sleeve and bypass. I have been eating solids (with some restrictions like no seeds of any kind, no fresh bread and some veggies were not allowed) since day 4. But, everything has to be chewed down to puree. That is my program, from my surgeon/hospital. I'm not encouraging anyone to do the same, I'm just saying that not all programs have you on liquids for weeks on end. I didn't have to be on liquids before either, just soft food the day before surgery.

Did anybody else's skin clear up?

It did clear up after surgery....for 3 months. Now it's back again.....
  13. My hospital doesn't release you until you are able to get 34 oz in a day by yourself. I went home 2 days after surgery day.

    What's the best protein bar?

Look at the post I quoted ☺️
  15. @James Marusek I have been getting my protein in with food for a while now, and I track everything. My protein goal is only 60g a day, but I'm often over 80g or more. But, my meals are basically only protein. It is possible. There has been a lot of yogurt eaten, that's for sure. And the one I have has 11g pr 100g. My program has had me on solids since day 4 though. I used protein shakes in the beginning, but not after week 3-4. 6 small meals a day it was. Down to 4-5 now. I eat max 5 oz a meal, which has been allowed since I first started. You don't have to drink protein shakes if you meet your protein goal for the day with food, but reaching it, is your second priority, first is water.

    I'm not eating enough

If you are more eating enough, you should at least hit your protein goal with the help of protein shakes. Getting enough protein is so important. I maybe 1-2 week ahead of you, I started at 255 and I'm now at 186, I'm also down 3 clothing sizes. I have been hitting my protein goal since 2 weeks post op. More days than not I'm over. You body seriously need the protein, if not it's going to take it from somewhere else, which is your muscles.

The feeling of being very uncomfortable and confession.

My surgery plan had me on solids by day 4. So I have been eating solids since day 4. No harm done. Granted I had RNY, but my program has you on solids by day 4 if you have the sleeve as well. As for sciatica pain, it is why I had the surgery. To try and prevent an other back surgery to alleviate the pain. I did end up having to get a nerve block after wls, because things had moved around during the surgery so the pain was so bad, but now at 3.5 months out, I feel so much better. I'm also 69 lbs down, including 2 weeks pre op diet.
  18. It is normal that you can't eat that much. I was allowed to eat up towards 5 oz in one meal, but I was nowhere near that for a long time. Also, eat slow. If you are not able to get the 2 oz in, then don't eat them. Chew everything well, take your time. If you eat fast you might really stuff your pouch. Your first priority should be protein and water. Not fiber, fruit and veggies. Those come later when you are able to eat more food. If you have met your protein for the day, and are still able to eat something, then you can have some fruit or veggies, but not really before that. Are strawberries allowed on your list? I wasn't until 6 weeks because it has seeds in it that can get stuck in your internal surgery wound. We all have different list though, so it might be.
  19. The water goes straight through though, it doesn't stay. Did you do the leak test after surgery? If so, it shows clearly that liquid goes straight through. We are not talking about drinking 10 oz right before you eat, but maybe an oz or two 10-15 min before.

    First in line tomorrow morning

Not necessarily. I have a dog, I'm outside all the time, yet I had dangerously low D Vit levels in September a few years ago, after a super sunny summer here in Austria. Just because you are outside it doesn't mean you automatically absorb what you need. Also, some countries don't have enough sun, like Northern Europe, UK and other places with less sun. It's just not enough.
  21. I know why we don't drink while we eat and why we should wait a good while after. What I'm curious to know is why people have to stop 30min before they eat? I have 10-15min, and it's to clean out the stomach before I eat.
  22. I go by weeks an months. I'm 15 weeks out right now. July 17th, which is a Monday, same day as my surgery, I'll be 17 weeks, and on July 20th I'll be 4 months.
