Irrational fears?
almost40ish replied to Hoping052017's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I'm 5'2" an I was 265 at the start of the journey. I lost a bunch of weight before the surgery so now, just over 4 weeks out, I'm 192. I feel the same way you describe yourself! I look in the mirror and I think I look fine. When I see a picture of me I want to cry. Now that I'm down nearly 70lbs I am afraid to see a picture...what if I still hate the way I look? It's scary to think that I could work so hard and still not be happy with it:( don't be scared! I'm sure you look fantastic. But if you're that worried, waiting may be the best thing. It's why I hate weighing myself, the scale is soooo mean to me lol. If the numbers don't move quick enough I give up easily. After surgery I'm not getting on the scale more than once a month. I leave for surgery on 2/17. I've heard bringing a heat pad & extension cord to ensure you can charge your phone/iPad from the bed are also helpful. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App -

I've more or less been comfortable being overweight my whole adult life, around 220 at 5'2". I've been fortunate to "carry well" and not have any other medical complications due to being obese. I went up to 250, then 270 last year. I'll be 40 in a few weeks and I could feel my body just giving up on me. My limbs get numb, I can't sleep, cant breathe, can't bend over, huff & puff going up the stairs of my house. I failed at all my efforts for healthy eating and I exercising. Then one day my darling 5 year old son and I were cuddling. He hugs me, grabs my back fat roll & ask me straight up, "why are you so fat?" And I knew I REALLY had to do something. I cried. Next thing I know a coworker confided in me she went to Mexico for surgery. I had considered gastric bypass about 10 years ago after a childhood friend got it, but it felt too extreme. This seemed doable. I did the research. I got the money, and now I'm headed to Tijuana on 2/17. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

I can! My husband knows & a few friends, that's it. I don't want to deal with the judgment either!!! I've always been the only overweight one & the recipient of their unneeded pity. Ridiculous since I've never let my weight stop me from living my life the best I can! I just can't wait to see their faces as the pounds melt off. They are so quick to point out my flaw, it's gonna be interesting when they don't have that anymore. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

Irrational fears?
almost40ish replied to Hoping052017's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I envy you that you can see an average size woman and totally understand the mirror thing. I'm different in that I've never been able to see anything other than fat from the waist down. Boobs up...if I'm being honest with myself it's actually shoulders up...I've never had a problem with. It's everything below the shoulders. Especially the stomach area after I had my first c-section (and two more after that) and my left leg that developed lymphoma after a bout of strep in my leg that left me in the hospital for a week. I'm sorry to hear that! Are you getting surgery? I didn't decide to get it until the discomfort from being overweight kicked in. Like right now my hand is falling asleep as I type this because I'm using my elbow. My ELBOW!!! Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App -

I haven't had surgery yet. I'm 5'2" and 265. Scheduled for 2/18 in Tijuana. I've always made light of having the opposite of anorexia... I do NOT see a fat person in the mirror! I see an average sized woman and no double chin, and I love myself! It's not until I see pictures of me that I'm like "whoaaaaaa who IS that?!" I do NOT recognize myself, it's depressing as all hell! I'm hoping the weight loss brings me back to "normal"! Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App -

I'm getting surgery on 2/18 at Tijuana Bariatrics (Dr's Garcia & Vazquez are there). My coworker used Garcia about 6 months ago & raved about them, and she's doing great! I've encountered others that have used them too, all positive reviews. Best of luck to you! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
