    Energy level after surgery?

I'm a month out now and while I'm ok I get attacks of sheer exhaustion, often not long after I eat. I push through them but it's tough - sometimes it's entirely physical where I will lie down and collapse but not fall asleep, just not feel up to the task of holding my head up for another moment. It seems almost random sometimes when they will strike and it is making it very difficult for me to keep up with work:(
  2. I had it once 1.5 weeks after surgery so far. I drank like 3 oz of Fresh pressed hot apple cider and oy! Weak, shaky, and diarrhea for about 15 mins. It was enough to make me avoid all sugars since then.

    Looking for January 2017 sleevers

How is everyone doing? There are a lot of people on this thread and January is over so we should all have had our surgery by now! I want to hear how you're all advancing - how much you've lost or not lost, what the hardest part has been for you so far, how the surgery went and any new learnings! Let's hear it, Team January 2017!!!

@@bookpusher I would use supplementation but keep trying with the other options. Try pureeing even foods that already seem fairly loose (like cottage cheese). I've never heard of not supplementing for at least the beginning. My doctor wants me on stage 3 but I can't tolerate it so I eat something and see how it goes and sometimes I can keep it down. As soon as I hit something that makes me throw up again I dial back to stage 2 for at least a day and then continue. It's a journey.

    only a few bites, norm?

I'm in the same boat at 4 weeks out. I don't feel full but if I eat even slightly too much it feels like a lump in my chest that won't go all the way down to my stomach. Not only that, but I even randomly throw up after eating or drinking Protein shakes from, I'm guessing, having too much. Too much is anything over 2oz. I use protein Water to sip on and I don't mind the shakes. Dannon makes a Triple 0 Oikos Greek Yogurt which has 15g protein and I can eat that without being sick. Cottage cheese and soft cooked eggs are also easy enough to get down. I'm also not getting my fluids down because they are uncomfortable and give me that sitting above my stomach feeling too:( I drink bone broth and I add collagen powder which has 6.6g protein to amp it up. For some reason I find hot beverages easier to get down than cold ones. I actually called my doctor yesterday because he wants me on stage 3 diet but I just can't seem to tolerate it. We'll see what he comes back with.
  6. I'm in the same boat. Lost 10.5 lb the first 10 days and and now, 25 days out I've only lost 3 more. Having trouble getting enough liquids but getting my protein and keeping calories at about 600-800 a day and walking regularly. I'm really feeling dispirited.

    Kaiser Bariatric Class

I would wear heavier clothes. For Kaiser you have to lose 10% of your highest weight in the last 12 months to be scheduled for surgery so the heavier you are for initial weigh ins, the better (unless you've already had a high weight recorded for this 12 months which is higher than you are now)
  8. @@pvechiola My diet plan says absolutely NO dried fruit at this point in time and I'm 3 weeks out.

Ugh - I lost like 12 lbs the first two weeks and then ONE pound the next week! I wasn't ready for that and it's seriously bumming me out because I'm doing what I'm supposed to do! My doctor had said I could eat Stage 3 diet with some solids but I'm randomly unable to keep things down so I had to pedal back to stage 2. I hate drinking fluids all day and I have gotten my period twice already since my 1/3 surgery. I'm constipated and just needed to vent! Any other early Jan sleevers running into speed bumps?

Great idea, @@bill1130 - I'm finding the Iron challenging too though and that's supposed to be taken more on an empty stomach. Maybe I'll crush the calcium pills and hope that doesn't make me gag and, if it works, spend the money for chewable iron. I know I need my vitamins and I don't think taking them counts for much if I keep sicking them up:P

    Looking for January 2017 sleevers

How is everyone doing today? I backed off to the week two diet and I've been sick free for the last two days so I guess I'm just not ready for anything more solid. I find that around 2pm every day I am just exhausted...not just tired, but bone weary. I am also having some emotional downs but I think that is normal life, not surgery. I have to stop hopping on the scale repeatedly and worrying about the numbers. I know I've already lost something like 12lbs and that I can't lose a pound a day everyday as well as the fact that I'm moving and not eating enough that I shouldn't lose weight so I just have to stop stressing over it and look at the long term. This isn't easy for me but I can't hurry things! Does anyone else have trouble with Vitamins? I can't have liquids with food, but if I take them on an empty stomach they can make me very ill so I'm not sure what to do! I bought the Calcium chews from bariatric pal and they're good but it's like $90 a month that way for calcium alone and I can't sustain that...nevermind the fact that I have to worry about other vitamins as well! What are you all doing to cope?

I went back to a simpler diet yesterday and managed to keep all my food down. I don't think I am getting enough fluids but I am trying. Clear liquids kind of hurt going down making it harder. Work sucks but that's work, not the surgery;) It's hard to go back to pudding/cottage cheese and cream soups when I had graduated to wet solids. I'm missing them already!

@@Ginsin007 Even now, with the food not staying down super well, I feel like I could eat. My friend's husband was sleeved in June of last year and he told me that he didn't really start feeling full until a month or so out from surgery when he could eat solid food again...that all of the liquids and semi-solids didn't leave him feeling the same way ever. He's lost a lot of weight and is still losing so I'm not as worried as I was before talking to him. OMG, that Protein pudding tastes gross, but it goes down easy at least! I'm missing veggies and salads of all things. My doctor is pretty progressive and lets me eat more solids than a lot of people who are only 2 weeks out gets, but he said if it doesn't sit well, dial it back for a bit and I'm trying that today. Good luck to all of us and may we all reach goal weight in a reasonable amount of time!

The problem is it's not really nausea. It's more like a dumping thing I think. I eat something, it feels like it's sitting ABOVE my stomach and not going in, and then I need to be sick very quickly. I start back at work today too so I'm concerned about it all.

    Looking for January 2017 sleevers

The last two days have been challenging to say the least. I've thrown up multiple times on at least three separate occasions. Taking solid vitamins appears to be getting harder and food/liquids seem to be taking longer to move on than expected. I wait half an hour after having fluids and find that food won't stay down. Meanwhile weightloss appears to have slowed. I'm feeling more tired and rundown despite doing slightly less. I'm hoping this is a phase and it too shall pass without too much difficulty.

I think I had my first dumping syndrome. I drank some apple cider and within 30 minutes I had horrible stomach cramps, diarrhea and weakness/dizzyness. It was pretty sucky and I'll be working to avoid doing that again anytime soon

    1wk post-op!

Today is my "2 week" follow up with my surgeon and I'm excited to see how much I've lost according to their scales! There are tough points already on this journey but I'm still excited and psyched about it all. I walked 10k steps yesterday for the first time since before surgery...I just wish I didn't have to go back to work next Tuesday! I feel like my doctor is more laid back than many. I didn't have to do the 2 week liquid diet post surgery...he told me to just stop eating at 8pm the day before and do this nasty laxitive stuff. I couldn't mentally handle not having the transition so I did clear liquids the day before anyway as well as the nasty laxative stuff. Everyone's journey is different and this thread is showing me that in spades. Keep up the good work folks, we're all going to do great!

    What Was The Final Straw

Prediabetic blood test results although A1C was normal. Then this article was the tipping point. I had looked into surgery about 5 years ago and lost weight on my own and decided against it. Now I was higher than I was before I started the process last time. This article really made me ready: https://www.nytimes.com/2016/05/02/health/biggest-loser-weight-loss.html?_r=0 I'm so glad I started when I did because my life took a very major different course just 5 days later but I haven't looked back and I'm so glad about where I am!

    1wk post-op!

Hey, I was sleeved on 1/3 as well! I'm having some trouble adjusting to sipping drinks and then tonight I had my first scrambled egg. I hadn't eaten enough during the day due to being busy. It was so good to eat and there wasn't much to chew and my take away is I have to go slower. Because I was done eating it before I realized that a whole scrambled egg was too much. Wound up having to go potty and feeling a bit like there was a lump in my chest for a while. I've found that sugarfree lifesavers really help with that feeling because I was too full for liquids at that point. Glad to find others with the same sleeveaversary as me:) Pre Surgery weight: 211 (I'm 5'2") Current weight: 205

    Seeking Buddies 5'2" & Under

I'm 5'2.5" - can I join too? I was 265 back in March of 2016. I went in to the surgery a week ago at 211 on my dr's scale and as of today I weigh 205 on mine. I see pictures of people who weigh what I do and look quite average weight but on me, it's an awful lot and to add insult to injury, most of it seems to like to hang out in my face and belly!

    Bowel movements

Thank goodness it's not just me! I had to drink this laxative stuff the night before surgery which made me pee out my butt half the night. Since then? Not a drop! Doctor was totally not worried when I told him and said if it got uncomfortable or persisted too much longer I could use Colase (sp?) or miralax and see what happened.

I have been reading your blog and I can't say how happy I am for you and for myself, knowing that you got there so there's hope for me! If you have time to mentor people, I'd be honored if you considered me as I relate to so much of what I've read on your blog.

My friend's husband had the surgery in June. He had a great description...he said, "The first day you feel like you've been run over by a mack truck. The next day more like a van and then a mini-van, a sedan a VW bug and a smart car...every day gets a little better. It hurts but less every day. I have some kind of burning inside - I can never tell if it's hunger, heartburn, gas or what. I had no nausea but I haven't pooped in like 5 days which I'm starting to be a little concerned about. I stopped the pain meds yesterday and seem to be doing fine without them - there is pain but it's not unbearable. I went to the movies last night which was cool. I'm finding I have emotional fluctuations. I woke up depressed this morning and I'm fighting it but it sucks. I'm not losing any weight but I'm guessing that's partly because of the constipation but that's depressing too. For some reason I thought I would be back to "normal" faster and I'm chafing at the bit a little. How's everyone else doing?
