No weight loss since started working out
cajun_queen posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I am almost 18 months out, down from 277 to 170 but the weight loss has stopped. I started working out in April and I haven't lost anything since. I am doing about 45 minutes of weight training and 1 hour of treadmill which consists of a little over 3 miles a day, I do this 5 days a week. I know muscle is heavier than fat but i'm struggling mentally with the scale not moving. I feel like 170 is still big. Anyone else working out have any advice or motivation? -

I feel great!! Haven't been to doctor since end of February, they were very pleased. I go back in August hopefully they can help me achieve a little more weight loss. I am working hard at it, I just don't want to have to work this hard forever. It scares me that i'm stuck at this weight, does that mean if I mess up i'm going to start gaining again. It's making me crazy! -

Any Gastric Sleevers 300 pounds or less before surgery lose 100 pounds afterwards?
cajun_queen replied to Beta98's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I was 277 at pre-op appt., I am 16 months out with 107 pound weight loss. -
Stalls are a part of the surgery unfortunately. Don't get discouraged, you will start losing again. I went through a lot of stalls. I found walking everyday made the weight start falling off again. Good Luck and don't let a stall get in your head!

My surgeon told me at 6 months to reintroduce whole grains. That my body needs them. I was told I could have whole grain bread, just a slice a couple times a week. The best bread I found with the proper ingredients and good stuff that was healthy was Dave’s Killer Bread Thin sliced organic. It’s got protein, fiber and alot of omega 3’s. It tastes good too.

4 month surgiversary
cajun_queen replied to cajun_queen's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Sure I will share my journey. I struggled with my weight once I married and started having children. I would lose on fad diets i.e. Atkins x 2, Weight Watchers, Low calorie and low fat, then I would gain it all back plus some. I decided the only way to lose it for good was to have surgery, so after much research I decided to do it. I had my 1st appt. Jan. 12, 2017, was told that I would need a psych. eval, nutrition class, and endoscopy. I was able to complete those very quickly and had Gastric Sleeve surgery Feb. 28th, 2017. Pre-op was no fun but bearable, mine was weeks long on just liquid. I was in hospital for 1 night, I had no issues. I have had laparoscopic surgery before when they took my gallbladder out and this was about the same. I walked, walked, and walked some more during my stay in the hospital (the narcotics are like caffeine to me). Walking and getting up to move is vital for a quick recovery. Lots of burping in the beginning, before during and after eating but that goes away. Learning to "eat" again has been a balancing act, but it is so easy now. Post surgery I had a week of full liquids, then pureed for 2 weeks, soft food for 2 weeks and then to regular food. During the pureed, I ate baby food and protein shakes. I have apparently a tough stomach as I did not have issues eating. My bariatric surgeon recommends a Mediterranean diet, fish fruits and veggies. I eat what I am supposed to eat and do not cheat with food that is no good for me. Everything you put in your mouth after surgery should be something that is vital for you body to have, because you won't have room to waste on stuff that won't give you any nutritional value. You WILL have stalls after and wonder why you aren't losing when you are really barely eating anything but this is not a bad thing, if you lose too fast you are most likely burning muscle mass and not fat. I don't exercise religiously but I do try to get in a little weight training or walking several times a week. I HATE exercise!! This has been a relatively easy process for me because I am 100% committed to being healthy!! Nothing will make me eat like I did before, its not an option in my opinion. I never want to feel that way again because being healthy feels so much better. Good luck on your journey!! Feel free to ask anything else! -

I also was told to bring my cpap to the hospital, and continue using it at home. I would bring it if I were you. -

Walk, walk, walk!! It helps the gas get moving out. -
My doctor said if you are losing super quickly your body is eating up muscle to fuel itself. Slow and steady is the best route. Now if you are working out with weights to build muscle I wouldn't concerned. But of course discuss it with your doctor!!

Did you tell people?
cajun_queen replied to Bishbosh's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I only told a couple close friends and my parents. I have another friend who told everyone and got a lot of negativity which made her not do the surgery. Now that it's done when people ask me about what I'm doing to lose, I then tell them I had surgery. -
February Sleevers -- Let's Do This Together
cajun_queen replied to good4younancy's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm 10 weeks out, sleeved Feb. 28th. I'm down 50 pounds even but currently in another stall. Very frustrating, I've had several stalls. The stalls really mess with my head, makes me question if I'm not doing something right. I am very strict with my diet, tracking everything that goes in my mouth. -
I had my sleeve done Feb. 28th and I still use my CPAP. I have fallen asleep without it and I slept fine, no snoring and wasn't tired the next day.
-
Same here, the scale won't budge but my clothes are fitting looser and looser so I know something is happening. I'm only 8 weeks out and have hit several stalls, super frustrating but trying to not let it get to my head.

I hit stalls every time my post op diet advanced. Hang in there you will start losing again! -
How does everyone get enough fiber in to keep things moving? I am on a Mediterranean diet, so I'm getting lots of veggies but it's not enough to keep things moving. I really do not want to take fiber supplements. What foods are you eating to get enough fiber? I am 5 weeks out and on regular food thanks!!
