I was sleeved 2 days before you, I'm glad you posted this. Today was the first time I noticed a difference, I looked in the mirror in my car before I stepped out to class & noticed my cheeks are dry. I noticed that since I haven't consumed any fat since pre-op liquids my skin has been less oily, but now it's straight dry. I don't know where it comes from but I'm guessing it's because we're not consuming fat. Our bodies use up water & protein more than ever now since that's all we're consuming for now. What to bring with me to Mexio?
CocoNina replied to thabenski's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
I had my surgery done here in the U.S. but I could imagine what you need to bring should be about the same anywhere. I was only in the hospital for 2 days, so I packed light. I brought to the hospital, an extension cord so I can charge my phone & iPad. All the medications my doctor prescribed to me so he can give me instructions on how to take them post op, one extra pair of sweats in case the clothes I wore to the hospital would get dirty, 1 extra pair of socks for the same reason, a toothbrush, toothpaste, & light makeup. I brought my homework text books too but didn't need them since I slept majority of the time. Height: 5'0" Weight for WLS consultation: 216 lbs. Low carb worked for me too before. The only problem was, I would resort back to carbs because I love pizza, potatoes, tacos, pasta, etc... It looks to me the rest of my life after this surgery I have to look for BOTH low carb & low calorie options. I'm 3-weeks post op & barely consume calories. My energy is low & I'm tired. I think we need healthy carbs in our system for energy & nutritional proportion. Height: 5'0" Weight for WLS consultation: 216 lbs. Dealing with Work and Time Off
CocoNina replied to az062217vsg's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If you don't want to tell them you are having a sleeve, just be general & say you have medical issues to take care of. I was General with my employer & co-workers. I'm keeping my sleeve a secret except to my fiancé & close friend. I can take pain really well & only requested a week off work. I underestimated the pain I'd be in. Now I'm taking the full 6-weeks recommended off. My job is very physical too so it's safer for me to be off longer so I don't tear anything inside. If you have an office job, I think you would be able to work sooner, so I'd say 2 weeks off for a desk job. I have no advice about the contract work since I never was in that position. Good luck! I'm exactly 3-weeks post op today. The first two weeks, I never felt hungry. All of a sudden, 2 days ago, Saturday night I started feeling hungry. I do take my protein every 3-4 hours as recommended. But now even the protein isn't helping to stop my hunger. I know the hunger hormone is supposed to be cut off with my stomach. So, why am I hungry? This is my last week of liquids only & I can finally puree my 4th week. I'm scared that I'll be like my old self. Always hungry & wants to eat. I already lost almost about 28 lbs since my pre-op liquid diet. I don't wanna go back. I always read that people forget to eat & have to remind or force themselves to eat post-op. I thought this would happen to me too, but I'm hungry. [emoji17][emoji85] Height 5'0" Weight for WLS consultation: 216 lbs. Surgery date: 2/13/17 Goal: - 71 lbs for healthy BMI (about 145 lbs). Caffeine effects post op?
CocoNina replied to JerseyJules's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Prior to surgery, I was a coffee addict. I needed it every morning & sometimes the afternoon. 3-weeks post op now & I don't like the taste. Coffee has that bitter, burnt taste to me. It's a shocker because I was a coffee snob (really picky & precise about my beautiful coffee). It's like saying goodbye to an old friend now that I don't like it anymore. We'll see if that changes as time goes on. Height: 5'0" Weight for WLS consultation: 216 lbs. Surgery date: 2/13/17 Goal: -71 lbs for healthy BMI (about 145 lbs). Ideas anyone: what's your favorite shake brand and flavor???
CocoNina replied to xoxococojay's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
Not a shake, but I love Unjury's chicken broth. 21 or 27 grams of protein a package. I'm so over sweet protein shakes. Height: 5'0" Weight for WLS consultation: 216 lbs. Thank you. I'm knuckling through it too. I refuse to cheat. I can't wait for puree next week. This week will be the longest week ever. LOL about the beans being like steak & lobster. I can't wait to have that too. -

I'm sick of all my protein shakes too. What helped me was buying beneprotein & adding it to broth. I enjoy the broth so much more than shakes now. I also add beneprotein to pudding just to have something to actually "eat". If you like jello, you can add protein to it too. Easier said than done because it does get boring/tiring. Hang in there, it is hard but we have to remember why we did this. I keep telling myself it won't last forever. I'm consuming more water now because of the hunger. It's hard but if we made it through our pre-op diet, we can do this! [emoji3] Height 5'0" Weight for WLS consultation: 216 lbs. Surgery date: 2/13/17 Goal: - 71 lbs for healthy BMI (about 145 lbs). 3rd week post op & hungry again
CocoNina replied to CocoNina's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I understand what head hunger is. I had it my 2nd week. When I smell food, I miss it. We had a warm week last week and people were grilling/BBQing. I yearned for it, but did not mind not having it. I felt full or not hungry anyway. What I'm feeling is different. My stomach wants food. I'm actually hungry. I feel low energy & the liquid Proteins isn't doing it for me anymore. I noticed I have been consuming more water to hold down the hunger. Height 5'0" Weight for WLS consultation: 216 lbs. Surgery date: 2/13/17 Goal: - 71 lbs for healthy BMI (about 145 lbs). I did that before surgery (Adkins 1970's book basically was high fat, low or no carb eating). It worked, the only problem is, as soon as I had any cards (whole wheat bread, brown rice, healthy carbs) I blew up! I lost 8 lbs in 2 weeks but gained it all back. So, I gave up on it. It was very tasty though. Height 5'0" Weight for WLS consultation: 216 lbs. Surgery date: 2/13/17 Goal: - 71 lbs for healthy BMI (about 145 lbs). 3 days out, remorseful, worried and depressed
CocoNina replied to Jamesarwin's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm 3-weeks post op too. It's mentally exhausting to re-learn how to eat & drink & deal with the soreness. What gets me through it is seeing my results on the scale & fitting into smaller clothes. The pain & "suffering" is short term for the reward which is to lose weight & have the body I want. You should see the psychologist the Bariatric clinic made you see before approving you or join a support group for Bariatric patients. Sometimes losing our old fat self is like mourning a loss of a person. Sometimes, I'm scared to lose to much but at the same time, it's what I want & asked for when I decided to cut 80% of my stomach off. I hope you feel better soon. My doctor never said it'll stretch my stomach. He just told me soda is unhealthy & can make me gain weight again because of all the sugar, high fructose corn syrup, & other chemicals. I was a Diet Coke drinker, and he said that's even bad because of the fake sugar in there (aspartame). There's no medical benefit to soda. Carbonation for some people can cause gas & discomfort too but he emphasized more on the health aspect. I don't desire soda anymore, anyway. Before, when I took shots, I chased it with beer. LOL. I'm shorter, 5'0". At one time in my life I was 230 but couldn't lose anymore after I went down to 220. Check my signature for my details: Height 5'0" Weight for WLS consultation: 216 lbs. You're brave for sharing your story & you should be proud of yourself for acknowledging what you're doing isn't right but you're willing to make it right. Yes, we are all human & we got this surgery because food is so good, it's hard to resist. I can't believe I made it through the 2-week pre-op liquids only which I think is worse than after surgery diet. I got my surgery 2 days before you. My sense of smell has gone up because food smells so good. I haven't done what you did & am surprisingly following my diet. The thing with food now is, I could barely consume my 60 grams of protein & I'm barely getting my required 48 fl oz of liquid. My stomach gets that full feeling I never felt before. I don't want to throw up or gag because it hurts my stomach. There are times I'm cranky because I miss food, but then I look at how much I lost so far in this short amount of time (22 lbs since surgery) & tell myself it's worth it, I would never lose 22 lbs on my own. Our minds are not in-sync with our bodies yet, but eventually it will be. I look at blogs that share recipes of healthier alternatives of foods I love & it gets me excited. So, this liquid phase won't last forever. Good luck to you. Don't be ashamed. Keep on going & look at your results to motivate you. Height 5'0" Weight for WLS consultation: 216 lbs. So sorry you didn't get proper guidance. It would help so much. I'm almost 3-weeks post op & already lost 22 lbs. Following the proper diet will be very useful. Your body will respond properly. Also, remember you're still swollen so the weight you see the first few weeks might be even heavier than you really are since the body is still healing. It takes 6-8 weeks to fully heal. According to my plan that my doctor, nutritionist, & nurse gave me. Take your multivitamins daily. Your body is not getting all the nutrients it needs. Take your calcium daily for your bones. Have 60-80 grams of protein a day to prevent hair & muscle loss. Drink 48 fl oz or water or more to stay hydrated. Post op the first 4 weeks are liquid only. Jello & yogurt are okay. Post op 5th week, puree food only. Post op 6th week, soft foods. I hope you get the proper guidance from a real nutritionist. I'm sharing what mine tells me. Everything is fine. I figured it out yesterday. I totally forgot there's an incision right above my belly button. It's covered since the roll in my stomach makes my bell go in. That incision is what hurts. I don't have fevers or vomiting/nausea, nurse says I'm fine. Height 5'0" Weight for WLS consultation: 216 lbs. Hi, So, I'm 16-days post op. Before yesterday my pain was on the left side where my biggest incision is (yes, that's normal) but now my pain is on my lower stomach right below my belly button. I Googled it to find info and I couldn't find anything about lower stomach pain below the belly button after the gastric sleeve. It's hard for me to lean forward or bend forward. Is this normal? Has anyone else experienced this before? I am following everything to a T (60 grams of protein a day, staying hydrated, taking multivitamins, calcium, & I walk at least 30 minutes a day). I also take my gallbladder & ulcer preventing medication. My nurse told me they sewed my muscle (& skin) back together to prevent hernias & ulcers. How long is this cut, really? Why would I feel it in my lower belly? Height 5'0" Weight for WLS consultation: 216 lbs. Surgery date: 2/13/17 Goal: - 71 lbs for healthy BMI (about 145 lbs). Eating Crap And Still Losing - Utterly Lost And Confused....Game Changer!
CocoNina replied to Proud2BMe's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Psychologically, since you're so close to your goal weight, your mind might be on "Fu@k it" mode which is probably why you resorted back to old habits like eating crap. Beware though. Because even though you lost weight after eating crap, it doesn't mean your body will do that forever. It's easy to gain those 200 lbs back. Sugar is addicting. I would talk to a psychologist & nutritionist & figure out why you resorted to eating crap. There's also healthier alternatives like whole wheat noodles, whole wheat bread, cauliflower mashed "potatoes", etc... It's ultimately up to you. Just remember why you did the surgery in the first place & ask yourself if you want to go through the surgery for nothing if you'll just go back to your old self that needed to lose 200 lbs.
