Working Out and Calorie Intake
CocoNina replied to LiciKitty's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
My doctor told me I don't have to over exert myself with cardio, so walking is fine as long as I'm moving. I could not get on an elliptical or bike my first 3 months. Take it easy on the weights & get your daily protein goals everyday to maintain your muscles. Height: 5'0" Weight for WLS consultation: 216 lbs. Surgery date: 2/13/17 Goal: -71 lbs for healthy BMI (about 145 lbs). Current weight: 145 lbs, now ready to lose 15 more past goal. My profile picture is not me. It's my "FITspiration" body. -
3 days post op and gained weight?
CocoNina replied to raynay05's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Your insides are still swollen & anesthesia usually keep everything in (your stool & urine), on top of medication & fluids from the hospital. Don't get discouraged, & give yourself about a month when swelling goes down & your getting back to normal. Height: 5'0" Weight for WLS consultation: 216 lbs. Weight in the low 200lbs before surgery
CocoNina replied to Keekey's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I forgot to answer this. The first 3 months I ate what I was supposed to eat according to my dietitian's plan for me (protein, no fat, no carbs except non-starchy vegetables). When I came in on my 3 month followup, I'd lost already 68% of my excess weight (or excess fat). The goal for my doctor is for his clients to lose 30 - 50% in their first year & I surpassed it. The week before my 4th month post-op I drank alcohol for the 1st time (was on my anniversary vay day) & have been following the Atkins & Ketos diet. The only starch I eat is the occasional potato, but that's less than 2 oz a serving. My serving size is still small, about 5 oz a meal. And I exercise 3-5 days a week. I feel great. I was obese since 2008 & got the solution for it this year with WLS. I was never obese before that so people that knew me back then say I'm looking like my old self. My new friends I met after 2008 are proud of me. I don't think people treat me that much differently. I've always acted confident & have a big personality so people treat me based on how I am, not my looks (thankfully). I've always ignored haters when I was fat & will still ignore them now that I'm thinner. I keep positivity around me. Height: 5'0" Weight for WLS consultation: 216 lbs. Weight in the low 200lbs before surgery
CocoNina replied to Keekey's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I used a specific BMI chart based on my age, height, weight. I guess because I'm older, the healthy end was 140. I look & feel great but now that I'm at goal, I want to lose more (be at 125 lbs - 130 lbs). -
What was the biggest surprise for you at or after surgery? What do you wish you had known?
CocoNina replied to sunmeadow's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
No other surgery except for the sleeve. I didn't have any complications, it just hurt like h3ll! My nurse told me what I was feeling on the side of my stomach (pain) was the fact that they cut through my stomach muscle. Cutting through my muscle hurt more than cutting 80 percent of my stomach off. I could barely sit or stand for long periods of a time. I had to lay with my pillows elevating my upper body a little. NO Carbonated beverages- FOREVER!
CocoNina replied to Lexington1020's topic in Duodenal Switch Surgery Forum
I'm 5 months post op & have drank champagne & Diet Coke on special occasions. Honestly, I feel fine. I wasn't allowed to drink carbonated beverages earlier post op because I was healing & it didn't go down nicely at all, but I'm good now. I can't even finish a whole can of Diet Coke & can only consume 1 glass of champagne. Me pre-WLS can drink lots more of the two. -
Keto vs paleo??? Have you ever tried it?
CocoNina replied to xoxococojay's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
To me, paleo has too much work. Atkins has always worked best for me & even better after WLS. I consider myself inbetween Atkins & Keto. Carbs for me are the devil so it works. How are people affording all these plastics???
CocoNina replied to swizzle's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
I need lipo on my legs since I always had a condition where my lower body is not proportion with the rest of my body (lipedema? I think that's what it's called). I found a doctor that specializes in it in LA but it costs $30,000. This was in March. I'm still losing so I'll wait till I reach my 2nd goal, but for the mean time saving as much as I can. It's hard to save though, everything is expensive where I live. I looked into financing but that's even worse ($600/month payment). I don't want to be in the hole, so I just have to figure out a way to make extra income. Height: 5'0" Weight for WLS consultation: 216 lbs. The pain! I have high tolerance in pain & only requested a week off because that's alI I thought I needed. I ended up taking the whole 6 weeks off & made things complicated at my job because the long time off was unexpected, oops! Height: 5'0" Weight for WLS consultation: 216 lbs. Is anyone having a hard time dealing with all of the new attention? I'm 6 months out.
CocoNina replied to lisaBme's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I've always had compliments when I was fat, and I get even more compliments now thinner. It doesn't bother me because I feel great & people that knew me before I got fat say I look the way I used to look before. Height: 5'0" Weight for WLS consultation: 216 lbs. Office Pitfalls and Hazards - I need help avoiding these!
CocoNina replied to Tiamka's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
I bring food with me. My favorite is variety of cheeses & fat free pudding for those days people bring sweets. You can bring healthier options to the office too, to break some of those bad habits everyone else is accustomed to. Keep up the good work & remember, the pain & sacrifices you had to make to go this far. Height: 5'0" Weight for WLS consultation: 216 lbs. Taking a Cruise after Surgery
CocoNina replied to iamjohnbamber's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I went on an all-inclusive vacation 5 months post op because of my anniversary with my hubby. It's not a cruise but similar (unlimited food, drinks, and can go on excursions). At first I used the regular players but could not finish, it looked like I never touched the food. A light bulb came to my head & I used the small desert plates for my meals. Thankfully, my hubby ate anything I couldn't finish. I didn't get any comments from the weight staff. -

Weight in the low 200lbs before surgery
CocoNina replied to Keekey's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I was 216 lbs in my consultation. I initially came to the clinic to get the lap band, but they told me the sleeve would be better suited for me. Why, because the lap band doesn't have a high successful weight loss just like the sleeve & the bypass would be too extreme for me. Height: 5'0" Weight for WLS consultation: 216 lbs. Can you stretch your sleeve after 10 days
CocoNina replied to barbie2014's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Nope, it's still swollen. It take 8-12 weeks to be fully healed. Height: 5'0" Weight for WLS consultation: 216 lbs. Surgery date: 2/13/17 Goal: -71 lbs for healthy BMI (about 145 lbs). When to start living and stop obsessing over the scale
CocoNina replied to sjandj715's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I've reached my goal too & still want to lose 15 more lbs. Personally, I don't think I'll ever stop obsessing over the scale. I don't ever want to go back & the only way to track & keep myself accountable is being conscious about my weight. What messed me up before was being afraid to face the scale & letting myself go without thinking about it. -
No Regrets ---but this is 'no fun'
CocoNina replied to Nanasha's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I bought an air fryer & it's the best thing ever. I loved fried food (like fried chicken). I found a Ketos recipe using baking powder for the chicken & put it in my air fryer & it tastes the same except it's not fried & healthier. Height: 5'0" Weight for WLS consultation: 216 lbs. what is your ht/wt and clothing size?
CocoNina replied to makemyownluck's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
My highest weight my entire life was around 230ish. The biggest size I was, was 20. Surgery weight for consultation I was 216 lbs & a size 16, XL shirts. Today, 145 lbs, size 8 & a Small or Medium shirt size. I'm short, only 5 foot. My signature will basically repeat what i just wrote. Height: 5'0" Weight for WLS consultation: 216 lbs. Wife was sleeved yesterday
CocoNina replied to Walter.Sobchak's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Congratulations to your wife! I have a high pain tolerance & only requested a week off from work. Little did I know the pain was extreme for me. I took the 6 weeks recommended off. I had buyers remorse right away but when time went on & I stepped on the scale, my buyers remorse started fading away. 4 months later & I'm down 60 lbs. It's totally normal to have buyers remorse. Everyone reacts to the pain of the sleeve differently. Good luck & healthy healing . Height: 5'0" Weight for WLS consultation: 216 lbs. Surgery date: 2/13/17 Goal: -71 lbs for healthy BMI (about 145 lbs). Current weight: 153.8 lbs My profile picture is not me. It's my "FITspiration" body. -
Wow. Same here. 3 months post op, planned Caribbean vacation before surgery. I just came back from vacation a week ago. When I was there I could only drink one serving of alcohol &, I'll admit, I didn't restrict my food since I was on vacation. I ate some carbs & dessert. But since I ate so little & did a lot of activity, I came back home & see I lost 2 lbs. It so awesome to go on vacation & still lose weight. Height: 5'0" Weight for WLS consultation: 216 lbs. Surgery date: 2/13/17 Goal: -71 lbs for healthy BMI (about 145 lbs). Current weight: 158.4 lbs My profile picture is not me. It's my "FITspiration" body.

I'm 3 months post op, I can only consume up to 4oz of food a sitting. For me it's not so bad. I love protein (chicken, steak, seafood) so I don't feel like I'm missing much. On the foods I did love before surgery (chocolate, cookies, noodles, ice cream, pizza) I feel that I can resist them. I miss them but I can live without them. Before my surgery I couldn't resist.
