  1. I didn't see an OCT thread, so let's make one! I just got my date today and it's 10/9! Any other October dates yet?
  2. Hi, I have Anthem BCBS (Ohio). What is the timeline for approval? I read somewhere that they have 10 days to make a decision, but my doctors office is telling me 3-4 weeks. I've been waiting about 5 days and the anticipation is killing me!
  3. So I am finishing up day 5 of clear liquids only... I wanna eat food so bad [emoji31] My diet only allows protein drinks, broth, sf drinks, sf popsicles, and sf jello. What I've found is that it's ALL in the mind for me... my stomach isn't hungry (really!) but mentally, I'm craving everything under the sun. 9 days to go! Omg
  4. Looks like you're up first!! Keep us updated and good luck!

    Having second thoughts

I've lost weight before.. I think the majority of us have given it our best effort... but the reason I'm going through with it (about same pant size as you) is to keep it off for good. I've been 40 lbs less than where I was but it came back. Congrats on the awesome work that you've done!

    Gastric sleeve surgery

Depends on insurance. I started the process the first week of January and I'll be having surgery later this month
  8. For those of you who need 6 months for insurance.... how did you cope with the time passing? I feel like I'll go nuts. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

  12. Hello, I have BCBS- Ohio. The requirements state documentation of 6 months non-surgical attempts at weight loss. When speaking to a BCBS nurse the other day, she stated that the consistent documentation I've done of my weight loss journey on Instagram should count with doctors approval. This goes back 18 months and includes pictures of the scale, food and exercise posts. However after reading the following, I'm wondering if I'd still have to go through the formal 6 months. Thoughts? MSN...you suck!

Seriously? Why would you get upset? Everyone is in the battle to lose. I busted my butt for years trying to lose 'naturally', so props to them if they were able to do so! I just think it's an odd mindset to have and to think that WLS is the only permanent way to lose weight, because that's false. It's just the option that works for US in particular. 14. Hello all, I have an appointment with my PCP on Thursday for an insurance required referral. I'm a little nervous! I'm not sure how to open the conversation, I don't know if he's a supporter of bariatric surgery, and he doesn't know me well. He's only been my PCP for about a year. Granted, he can pull medical records if he needs to.... but the 'what ifs' keep running through my head. I'd be majorly bummed if he won't refer me. What should I bring with me? I plan on having insurance requirements printed out, but what else? TIA! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  15. Update to all- he referred me with no problem and stated he'd rather I get it done now while still young (27) so I can bounce back quickly and ended the convo with stating that he is in full support of my decision Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Picky eater

I think it boils down to... how bad do you want this??? With or without surgery, you'll have to make sacrifices and adjustments for massive weight loss. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Borderline BMI

@@tracybshaw , call your insurance and ask if you fall below 40, will this disqualify you. My bariatric center requires all patients to ask our insurance this. My insurance (BCBS Ohio) doesn't care as long as you qualify at initial weigh in. @everyone else with thoughts similar to Mexciosleever's, I encourage you to research. It is insanely popular for those with a borderline BMI to make the same decision for WLS as you. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Borderline BMI

@@mexicosleever88 I did read your entire post and while there was some positivity in there, there was definitely some passive aggressiveness as well. Understand that those of us who DO qualify but may not have a super high BMI may be doing this as a preventive measure before we get to that point to where it's between life or death. Trust, I still have a solid 100 lbs to lose or more, as would most anyone at a BMI of 40 or higher. However I do agree with what someone else said- shunned by the healthy for being obese, shunned by the heavy for not being obese enough or 'not that fat'. It wouldn't be deemed medically necessary without reason. Bottom line: we ALL need and want to get healthy. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  24. I just got back from the initial seminar today. Sat down at work, and my bra busted (the clasp!). I find irony and humor in this... there's my sign that I'm making the right decision! Haha. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  25. Lmao... a vivid memory from my mother's RnY journey is picturing her throwing up into a toilet and saying 'Those damn chicharrones!' ..... be careful! I admit because of that memory I'll be scared to try at first. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
