No the surgeon gave me a goal weight but I have to be within 5lbs of my goal before I'm allowed to have my psych exam. So 2lbs away from being able to schedule my psych exam and 7lbs away from being able to schedule my surgery. Sent from my SM-G920V using the BariatricPal App

@pheonix40 - how long did it take them to schedule your psych eval? I seem to remember you hit your weight a while ago. I am really hoping for a March surgery. I am 2lbs away from psych weight and 7 from goal. Sent from my SM-G920V using the BariatricPal App

I really liked it! I went to one session and will be going to another session next Tuesday (I had to miss the last one because of work). I am also thinking about stopping by a fremont session too. My bf loves in fremont and has been very involved in this process and since he can't make it to pleasanton, we were going to go to fremont so he can be part of a session and have a chance to ask any questions he might have. Children after the sleeve?

Dang...it cut part of my comment. As I was saying, you will have to be super on top of your vitamins and make sure you are getting good nutrients from your food but I think most women with past weight issues have to be careful about how much they gain and most women in general have trouble losing weight after a baby. Also, you do not have to eat a lot to support the growth of a baby. "Eating for two" or "you need to eat to grow a baby" is not true. Women who are in the health weight range don't need to consume any additional calories in their first trimester, 340 more cals a day in their second trimester and 450 more cals a day in their third trimester. And if you get pregnant while you are still in the overweight category the extra cals you need to consume is even lower. 1.5-2 years post surgery, you can easily consume an extra few hundred calories without messing up your sleeve. Children after the sleeve?

Having the surgery and losing the weight will actually give you a better chance of getting pregnant and having a healthy pregnancy. I don't have first hand experience but I know plenty of people who have had success having children after surgery. I have a friend who has been trying to have a child with his wife for almost 20 years. He thought he was sterile (she has 2 kids so her stuff works). They have both had the surgery and are now pregnant and doing great. As a woman who is in the same position as you, ready to start a family, I was very worried about pregnancy after surgery. I have done a ton of research and ask my doctor about it every time I see him...literally EVERY appointment I ask him about how surgery can affect pregnancy. I have gotten so much positive notes on how much healthier pregnancy is after surgery then it would be for me at my current weight. Pregnancy is complicated and there are always a million things that can go wrong. Yes you will have to be super on top of your vitamins and making sure you are getting good nutrients from your food. However, I think anyone with past weight issues would have to be on top of not gaining too much weight and most women have trouble losing weight after having a kid. I am personally stoked to have this surgery and increase my chances of a health pregnancy. Also, you need very little additional calories to grow a baby. Especially if you are still in the overweight category. "Eating for two" or "you need to eat more for your baby" is not true. A person in the healthy weight range does not need to eat more calories in their first trimester, 340 more cals per day in their second trimester and 450 more cals a day in their 3rd trimester. If you are still considered overweight, these numbers would be even lower. At 1.5-2 years post surgery, you could easily add a couple hundred cals without screwing up your sleeve. Anyone 370 lbs or more?

I'm pre-op but I started at 398. I am doing what the above comment recommended and I am eating like I will after surgery. Cut out sugar and cut down carbs. Eating lots of Protein and only 3 times a day. I feel like I have crushed all my cravings already and makes me feel better prepared for surgery. I'm down 30lbs in a month and a half. Just need to get the last 10 off so I can schedule my surgery. Sent from my SM-G920V using the BariatricPal App

  12. Hello everyone, I don't have a surgery date yet but I am shooting for sometime in March. My best friend moved halfway across the country over a year ago. She is vacationing to her home town in Florida in June with her new baby and wants me to meet her there so I can visit her and meet the new baby. Is there any issue with traveling roughly 3 months out from surgery? I will be traveling alone and it's a 9hour flight. I know wounds would be healed but I have heard to fatigue, dizziness and low energy for a while after surgery and with travel being a stressor on the body, i want to make sure I will be ok by myself. Perfect, thank you. I don't want to commit to visiting her and back out. Especially because I am not telling anyone about the surgery. Sent from my SM-G920V using the BariatricPal App

I think each surgeon and each patient is different. There is also what the hospital will approve and what insurance would approve. Those are not always the same. Good luck and I hope they approve you. Sent from my SM-G920V using the BariatricPal App

That might be why you are having a phone appointment. I have a bmi of over 50 and my only comorbidity is sleep apnea. I will always have sleep apnea because my tonsils are huge and it runs in my family. Even at such a high bmi the surgeon told me I was lucky I had sleep apnea because I was almost "too healthy" to be considered for surgery. They may want to talk to you more about why you want the surgery before they continue with the process. Sent from my SM-G920V using the BariatricPal App

Maybe we are talking about the same appointment? I had a first class that was pretty much about the nutrition and not much about the surgery and wasn't with an actual surgeon. The orientation actually had a surgeon there and was more than 50% about the surgery. Sent from my SM-G920V using the BariatricPal App

The orientation is a one time only class. It's just a group of people and the surge and nutritionist go through the generic process so people can decide if it's right for them before they sit down with everyone individually. One thing they stressed in orientation was that if you were already losing weight to not worry because they would use it towards your progress. They use your highest recorded kaiser weight in the last year. I wish I would have used the time before my orientation to lose some weight. I would be at my goal if I did. I suggest you start losing now to speed the process. Sent from my SM-G920V using the BariatricPal App

You can try. They are on Thursdays only. Some are 2pm and some are 9am. They called me immediately once my primary referred me to set it up so I would guess since you have a referral they would schedule you an orientation class. When was the last time you were weighed in a kaiser facility? Sent from my SM-G920V using the BariatricPal App
