I’m 12 months post gastric bypass and am now at target weight. I exercise loads so am eating around 2000 calories a day to maintain weight. I tend to eat lots in the evening as I’m hungry post exercise but am waking through the night around 3 hours after my last food with hot flushes which have been diagnosed as late dumping syndrome. I’m not eating high sugar so am confused as to why this is happening. Has anyone else experienced this and if so have you managed to solve it? Thanks

Brain hasn’t caught up with body
ruthkilbo replied to CocoNina's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Omg I completely understand where you’re coming from. I’ve reached my target weight but after years of trying to lose weight I’m struggling to allow myself to stop. It’s a real mental battle that I’m facing every day. People tell me I’m too thin now. Feel like I can’t win whatever I do. My head sees the skinny me but my heart is still that of an fat person who suffered for years. I think it’s partly down to the excess skin I’ve got. Maybe if I could get that removed, I may be able to learn to love my thin body ... x -
Ah glad it went well for you. How long was the recovery time afterwards. I exercise everyday at the moment and am scared to lose that momentum but obviously after the skin removal I wouldn’t be able to do much for a while. Also how is the scarring? Thanks Ruth

Hi has anyone been through surgery for excess skin removal? Would love to know how you got on. Thanks

Hi just wondering if anyone had had excess skin removal surgery ? I’m considering it but am terrified! Thanks

Sleeping position for comfort after weight loss surgery?
ruthkilbo replied to SuzyQutie's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
It does ease off. I slept sitting up for about 2 weeks then managed on my back for a bit and was back on my side after 3 weeks. Those first few weeks are hard but rest assured that it does get better -

Has anyone kept their surgery a secret?
ruthkilbo replied to kcvasquez's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I told very few people. People just say such negative things to you about weight loss surgery. At the end of the day it's your business not theirs and you shouldn't worry about keeping it secret x -
When did everyone begin increasing their calories?
ruthkilbo replied to sammy246's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Hi do you get a good weight loss with that many calories? I'm exercising every day at the moment and am so hungry all the time but I'm scared to eat more in case I stop losing or worse still put it on. Thanks -
I had my op on a Wednesday and was working from home again 5 days later with no problems. All the best for your surgery

6month post op update... Eating horribly
ruthkilbo replied to tigraq08's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I'm 4.5 months after my bypass and I'm hungry all the time. I am exercising a lot but even so I'm finding it really hard to control the hunger ! I crave rubbish foods like crisps (chips). It's so hard to control. Would welcome any advice .... -
Have any surgery gone wrong?? Any hard complications etc.
ruthkilbo replied to Ruiz3's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I had a bypass in Feb 2017 and I've been great with no complications. Best decision I've ever made although I do agree that you also need a positive mental attitude and embrace the changes that are made. I love making sure that I do 10000 steps a day which is the complete opposite to how I was pre op ! -
Any Apple watch users?
ruthkilbo replied to beachwalker4rny's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I love my Apple Watch. It's a massive help and very satisfying to see the number of steps add up. I set reminders on it for my calcium and vitamins -
I had the gastric bypass done a few days ago.
ruthkilbo replied to hajoura-sweet's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
My surgeon told me it was due to an internal stitch. It took about 3 weeks for it to go -
You need to remember that you're recovering from major surgery. Lots of people feel exhausted post surgery. The person before is right - keep your fluid and protein intake up and before you know it you'll come out the other side feeling fab. Don't forget to take your vitamins too

3 weeks from surgery, fear and doubts!
ruthkilbo replied to smsmith's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I had the bypass 8 Feb this year I've lost over 60lb and feel great. Walking loads. Best thing I ever did. I had doubts pre surgery but it was well worth every penny I paid. Good luck x -
I'm almost 3 months post op. Does anyone know how many calories a day I should be aiming for. I'm keeping an eye on my protein and water intake too but wondered about calories. I'm walking about 2-2.5 miles a day. Thanks
-
I'm typically eating about 600-700 but I've eaten up to 850 some weeks and actually lost more in those weeks!
-
Thanks. I'm only getting about 700 calories which I suspected was a bit too low.

I'm having my bypass on 8th Feb and my surgeon says I have to do the pre op diet for 2 weeks and consists of Protein and not much else. Another company I looked at said at long as you stuck to 1000 calories a day it was fine so I'm going to do that. Funny how they all differ. I'm terrified though of having to do just 1000 calories a day ! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
