Little Green reacted to BigViffer in Got Bad News
I have some bad news for you. No bariatric surgery will cure your medical issues. All it will do is force you to eat less for about a year. Sure, there may be some palette changes, or maybe dairy will suddenly become difficult to digest causing lactose intolerance, or you may develop gerd; but for the most part the surgery doesn't change a person medically speaking. Only the medical conditions brought on by poor diet will be affected by bariatric surgery. (e.g. High BP, diabetes, cholesterol, etc...)
Unless there is a medical condition with the stomach itself, there is nothing that bariatric surgery will cure that diet alone could not as well. The surgery and subsequent honeymoon phase help cement new food habits.

This might come as a shock to a few people here, but there are quite a few of us in the bariatric patient community who are ALSO part of the medical community:)
Doctors, nurses, surgeons, physical therapists, nurse practitioners, physician's assistants, etc. etc......suffer from obesity, too:) Who knew?
And yes, some of us are sympathetic and EXTREMELY GRATEFUL for the work bariatric surgeons do, and the sacrifices they make to help people with obesity.

This is uncalled for. Calling a person disgusting on here that has meted out helpful advice to many posters on here is crossing a line and maybe even goes against the terms of service.
The point of the post is valid, elective procedures require us to follow the surgeon’s requirements. We must follow the insurance company ‘s requirements.
Becoming rude and nasty adds nothing of value to the thread and I actually hope they close this thread.

i appluad your patience. I like how her wikipedia page had a warning on it being an orphan article and that the writer is posisbly related to the person and how there r no other articles or links to verify the info

It's easier to help each other...and ourselves...when we are truthful.
But again, to each, their own.
Good luck to all:)

Other people think you are an obnoxious know-it-all with seemingly too much time on their hands.
I won’t tell you what camp I’m in, it doesn’t matter really.
The information he shared is just as valid as anything you have repeated ad nauseam. Get it, nausea? It’s a bariatric joke, now that’s funny.

Sorry Raffi. I'm all for humor and sarcasm, bawdy jokes, even offensive humor, and I'm known to be blunt on occasion. I just think there are too many people looking for ways to excuse bad behavior for me to see the humor in this post, which I feel could add fuel to the fire for some. I'm wishing you all the best, though, and hoping to get excellent results like you have as well! Take care.

Not sure it's good to fantasize about our favorite unhealthy foods while we're trying to focus on changing our diets! LOL

Hmm. To me it definitely comes off as bragging about the rules not applying to him. The title literally says, "I'm doing everything wrong... and shrinking." The implication there is he's still losing weight despite not following any of the guidelines and has "no regrets" according to his OP. So yeah, I don't think we're just being too sensitive by taking what he's said at face value. Giving the middle finger to the surgeon's rules is not only stupid but dangerous. And Raffi has been loving the attention his post has gotten. "Badge of honor," and all that. So I'm really not interested in finding ways to excuse it as him framing his post in a way he didn't intend.
Personally I'm having surgery to lose my excess weight and permanently maintain that by completely overhauling the lifestyle that has been making me sick and fat. But that's just me.

Little Green reacted to Creekimp13 in Tips for social eating?
My tip is F*ck 'em. None of their business what you eat or don't eat.
But if it makes you feel better, you can cut your food up really small and spread it out over your plate so it looks like more. You can also ask the hostess for a box with your meal....and immediately put half or two thirds in the box and put it under your chair. That way...your plate looks like everyone else's.

Little Green got a reaction from Newme17 in Opinions on Fat, Sick, & Nearly Dead/Joe Cross
Yep, sad but true. He keeps it pretty vague (I scoured his website and twitter lol) and besides the reference in FSND2, this is the only article I could find where he flat-out states he is not vegan:
https://www.mindbodygreen.com/0-16203/why-im-not-having-a-vegan-thanksgiving.html
So he eats fish & chicken, and occasionally red meat, and dairy as well. And I do agree that lowering the amount of meat you eat will make you healthier even if you don't go vegan, so the 70/30 thing isn't that bad, but if you are going to call yourself plant-based and build a business on being a fruit & veg diet guru, you should not be eating up to 30% of your diet from animal protein! Smh!!!

Little Green got a reaction from Newme17 in NuGo Slim - Vegan Protein Bars
Sorry guys, I promise no one is paying me to post brand recommendations on here LOL. Just doing a crazy amount of experiments before my liquid diet starts... in... gulp, 5 days!
So in the pre-op diet my surgeon allows any Protein Bar that meets the following requirements:
200 calories or less 8 grams of sugar or less Between 15-25 grams of Protein (We can have up to 2 Protein Bars per day during the diet.)
After much googling I found a bar that meets those requirements for me! This is almost certainly not the only bar but it was available on Amazon and at a good price range so it's the one I decided to order - it's called the NuGo Slim bar. FYI NOT ALL THE FLAVORS ARE PLANT-BASED!!! I actually wasn't paying enough attention and accidentally ordered 3 flavors that aren't vegan, ugh. LOL thank goodness Amazon will let me return them!
The three flavors that I've tried (that ARE vegan) are Toasted Coconut, chocolate Mint, and Crunchy Peanut Butter. They are all REALLY good and believe me when I say I hate most protein bars (except Fiber One which I don't eat anymore obviously). These bars do not have that awful, weird, wet, chewy texture that Quest bars, Pure Protein bars, etc. have. I would say that my favorite flavor is the peanut butter one, but they are seriously all good. The only reason the chocolate mint didn't win was I would have liked more mint flavor lol.
I'm really excited to have found these bars. I wish I could eat these 5x a day instead of 3x shakes and 2x bars, lol.

http://gamechangersmovie.com/
I haven't seen it yet-- I'm not sure it's out yet actually, but Dr. Greger mentioned it on his Facebook page and said this is the best and most evidence-based vegan documentary he's seen yet! James Cameron is the executive producer and it also features Arnold Schwarzenegger. I think this is going to be HUGE! And hopefully reach a ton of people to get them eating the healthiest diet! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

Gotta admit I do so love doing that.
Listen, let me quash this. I'm a newb. Wanted to see what kind of feedback I'd get about how I'm doing this, and I did it in my usual style, which some might get, or like, or not. Don't care much about that aspect (although the bait-takers always make me smile inside...thanks LG). I have honestly heard the "honeymoon phase" argument and it's resonating with me HARD. Thanks to all who engaged genuinely.
Gonna have a small salad for lunch today and skip the grazing.
Baby steps.

What a JERK. Not standing by his wife. He's just jealous that you might end of looking better than he does. You do what makes YOU happy!!! Do what makes YOU healthy!!! And if he doesn't like it...That's his problem. And about him calling you Fat Ass, that's horrible, what a CHILD. You should tell him that you are going to live a HAPPY and HEALTHY LIFE, with or without him....and ask him how he loves that!!!

I am so sorry that you are not feeling cared for and understood. This decision is hard enough when the world aligns in your favor, let alone when you feel like it is crashing down on you. I don't want to pretend to have the answers but therapy can really help you find what it is you need most, and help you achieve it. If you don't mind I will add you to my prayers.

Little Green reacted to blizair09 in Husband threatens divorce if I have surgery
I'd have the surgery and tell him that he needs to do whatever he needs to do. He doesn't sound like a great person, and once you get yourself where you want to be, you can likely do better.
Don't let him bully you. Do what is best for your health, your goals, and your happiness.

Even if this is true, should people on this board be required to decipher the hidden message among the barrage of macho "I do what I want" talking points?

If you pull down the forum menu and cut across from weight loss surgery forums...you'll find a board called "The Lounge"...which might be a good home for the Raffi Show.
I think you could safely throw the kinda party you're thinking of over there without upsetting anyone.
Carry on:)

Even if he was, he is less than 3 months out. Everyone will lose weight during the honeymoon phase. He's just missing out on the easiest time to make changes in food relationships and habits. It happens over and over on this forum. He'll fade away when the loss stops and it becomes real work. They all do.
