  1. Have you tried chewing gum? That may help with the need to chew. Sent from my XT1585 using BariatricPal mobile app
  2. If you think your primary care doctor may not be on board with WLS, I would be prepared to debate the merits of the surgery and that you've failed to lose out yourself for x number of years. There is still a stigma. Sent from my XT1585 using BariatricPal mobile app
  3. I am 4 months postop and I could have easily gone to Europe last month. Enjoy your trip!! Sent from my XT1585 using BariatricPal mobile app
  4. This is what I do but I see 1-3 lb fluctuations from day to day. I am not a person who freaks out about weight changes, it doesn't bother me. I have been watching my weight for so long I know that my period, salt intake, dehydration, etc can all impact my weight from day to day. I mostly weight myself every to monitor my status and to ensure I get an early watching sign. If I were to miss the fact that my body has been periodically hitting a new low I would get discouraged. Or if I were somehow gaining a pound a day for a week, I'd want to know that too! It really depends on your personality. Sent from my XT1585 using BariatricPal mobile app

    Craziness NSV

It is really inspirational to hear about those of you, who like me, have been overweight their whole lives and are finally losing weight postop. I am 4 months postop and am about 8 lbs from my lowest adult weight. These last few pounds are resisting via stall and I am going to power through soon. I really hope I'll come back to this post next year and blow away my modest goals with my progress. [emoji256] Sent from my XT1585 using BariatricPal mobile app

    Almost 10 years later

I did the same thing!!! (Looking for regret posts when I was preop). I never found much of anything other than the occasional person who misses a particular food. What was interesting was that I found that Google directed me to some really old forums of sites that aren't popular anymore. It was so interesting to see people freaking out about stalls/mistakes just to see that their profile shows they ended up losing a ton of weight. Best of luck! I don't think the will regret it. Need advice and a hug, freaking out!

Congratulations!! Definitely talk with your surgeon's office and your nutritionist about getting enough food for the baby. They may want to change your guidance now that you are eating for two. Best wishes! Sent from my XT1585 using BariatricPal mobile app
  8. I have Mirena and experienced the same crazy periods. I hadn't had a period in 1-2 years. Then I had my surgery and I get the worst period I've had in years for days and days. It then turned into periodic spotting and by 3 months I was back to no period. The surgery and sudden weight loss definitely messes with your hormones which messes with your periods. Eating to little

I agree. It's critical that you know exactly what you are eating therefore food logging is essential. It's really a non-negotiable in my opinion. An alternative to MyFitnessPal is Baritastic. I love love love Baritastic. It's specifically for bariatric patients and it's by far the best tracking app I've ever used! Sent from my XT1585 using BariatricPal mobile app
  10. Congratulations!! That is truly remarkable!! Any suggestions or lessons learned for those of us earlier in our journeys? Sent from my XT1585 using BariatricPal mobile app
  11. I also had to do the 6 months presurgery diet but mine was with my primary care doctor. I think the insurance company's motivation is to make you successful postop. They don't want to spend a ton of money on surgery and have you blow it by not changing your habits. I am so happy the insurance company forced me to do it. I had tons of time to research every aspect of the surgery and postop life. But mostly I used it as my last ditch attempt to lose weight on my own. I started an intense workout regimen and sustained good eating habits which are making my postop experience SO much stronger. But I lost almost no weight during those six months. It was the final confirmation I needed that I had to have the surgery. I wish you a similar experience. Best of luck on your journey! Sent from my XT1585 using BariatricPal mobile app

  13. It sounds like you've made a lot of healthy choices so far. Track your food and check in with your doctor or nutritionist to confirm you are meeting the goals they'd like you to meet. Best of luck! Sent from my XT1585 using BariatricPal mobile app

    One Year Surgiversary!

You have done so well!! Congratulations on your amazing results! Do you have any advice for those of us that are early in our journey? My goal is 199 but seeing your results gives me hope that I can exceed them. What do you think was the key to your success (special diet, exercise)? Sent from my XT1585 using BariatricPal mobile app

    Why am I not losing?

I started back at Bootcamp at 6 weeks postop which includes weight training, cardio, etc. I contacted my nutritionist and she upped my calories to 900-1100 per day with +80g protein. You may want to confirm you shouldn't be moved up in calories and protein. I also had several long stalls. I particularly noticed that I stalled for 2-3 weeks after I started exercising. I truly believe my body was confused and needed to adjust to intense workouts again. The weight starting falling off after that. Best of luck! I know you'll look back at this post one day and laugh that you were ever worried! Sent from my XT1585 using BariatricPal mobile app
  17. He was 58 when he had the surgery. He is 63 now. He was my inspiration to do it myself before my health suffered. Sent from my XT1585 using BariatricPal mobile app
  18. I can't speak from personal experience but I can talk about my father'sexperience with gastric bypass. He was taking tons of insulin for his type 2 diabetes in addition to cholesterol and BP medicine. He is 5+ years postop. He had kept off over 100 lbs and takes NO medication! I'm not saying his results are what you will experience but it had truly been a miracle for him. My mom swears the surgery saved his life. Sent from my XT1585 using BariatricPal mobile app
  19. I agree with Airstream. The surgery won't help the psych issues and could in fact hurt your results with the surgery. I will say though, that in my case (and keep in mind I am only 3-4 months out which is definitely the honeymoon phase of the surgery) I have found my cravings to be much more manageable postop. I still get cravings but it is much easier for me to say no than it ever was preop. If you can work on your eating habits prior to surgery you will set yourself up for success. 20. I would check with your doctor. When I have allergic reactions it can look like that. You may be reacting badly to something you are eating or a medication/supplement. Sent from my XT1585 using BariatricPal mobile app
  21. I had the sleeve and have had zero problems. I was able to hit my water and protein goals pretty quickly. I've lost 40+ lbs and feel great! [emoji16] Sent from my XT1585 using BariatricPal mobile app
  22. Yes. I am 3 months postop. It was my first surgery and I got last minute jitters like everyone. I just kept reminding myself that I didn't spend the least year preparing for the surgery to change my mind at the last second. Sent from my XT1585 using BariatricPal mobile app
  23. It's normal to be scared. But don't let the last minute fear get in the way of something you have been working toward for months (or years). Medical technology is a wonderful thing. You will wake up and have no memory of the surgery. It's really a miracle. Think positively and you'll be fine. Sent from my XT1585 using BariatricPal mobile app
  24. Two thoughts: 1. If you are still taking pain killers they can definitely impact your energy. 2. Are you meeting your calorie goals? If you aren't eating enough you will be tired. It's not ok to eat less than you are prescribed. My nutritionist yelled at me when I went below my calorie count for a few days to "challenge myself". I won't do that again. Birth control

I bled for a year on the shot too and it made me CRAZY. I also have Mirena but it sounds like an IUD may not be a good option in this case. They are much easier to insert on women who have had children. Sent from my XT1585 using BariatricPal mobile app
