When did you start working out after VSG
GrrlAnn replied to shericrazylady's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
0-2 weeks walking 3-6 weeks cardio 6+ anything including weight lifting and core exercises Sent from my XT1585 using BariatricPal mobile app -
That freaked me out too. You just have to wait. I am 5.5 months out and I have been able to gulp water on an empty stomach for a while. I can drink 4 oz without stopping and can drink another 4 oz a few minutes later. For me, this satisfies my need to guzzle water. Sent from my XT1585 using BariatricPal mobile app

I don't understand. Are you just a few days postop on clear liquids? Sent from my XT1585 using BariatricPal mobile app

Are you getting all of your water in? Are you adding protein to those foods? Sent from my XT1585 using BariatricPal mobile app

This! Protein only - don't start eating fruit or anything like that out the gate. You need the surgery to kill any sugar addiction you have. I also recommend getting lots of types of broth. After a few days, when I started to feel better, I started to miss having dinner with my family. I would heat up broth and add unflavored protein powder. I bought every option I could find - chicken, beef, vegetable, mushroom. After awhile, before I was put on soft foods, I got really, really bored of eating liquids. I started mixing the broths together to make them more exciting. LOL! Buy enough to get you through the first week or two. Your taste buds will change SOOOO much - mostly disliking just about everything you taste. So don't buy a lot of any one thing. You are going to want to get out of the house after feeling cooped up. Best of luck!

Nutritional tracker/calculator App?
GrrlAnn replied to BDutchess's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
I LOVE Baritastic! It's a tracking app specifically for bariatric patients and it's the best tracking app I've ever used! It's tracks everything - food, water, exercise, steps, measurements, weight, bmi. There are even timers to remind you to drink or to wait to start drinking. Even inspirational quotes. It's the best!! How did you achieve this amazing results?!! That is statistically really exceptional! Personally, like the original poster, my expected weight loss isn't as low as I'd like to go (I'd like to lose an additional 10-20lbs). Any tips or advice would be appreciated! HELP! BCBS 6 Month Nutrition Requirement
GrrlAnn replied to losingformylife's topic in Insurance & Financing
I did not have a loss requirement. I think I only lost 10 lbs in 6 months. Was approved without a problem. Sent from my XT1585 using BariatricPal mobile app -

HELP! BCBS 6 Month Nutrition Requirement
GrrlAnn replied to losingformylife's topic in Insurance & Financing
I also had BCBS and had to do 6 months of weight loss. It ended up being a gift. I researched everything about the surgery, learned the post op nutrition and started a workout regimen. I only lost 10 lbs BUT it has made my post op experience SO much stronger. If you don't change your habits you won't be successful. Sent from my XT1585 using BariatricPal mobile app -

Exactly!!!! It's so counterintuitive - you work out and you get MORE energy rather than less. Sent from my XT1585 using BariatricPal mobile app

I started working out when I started my 6 month preop diet plan. I wanted to set the stage for my postop life. I tried some new ways of working out and found one that I LOVE. I've neverbeen a person who loves to work out before. Next month will be my one year anniversary of working out 4-5 days a week, EVERY week (except surgery recovery). I literally can't believe it even though it's true! And the best part, I feel SO good and I am not even close to be being sick of the program. I am truly a person who looks forward to the gym. I recommend you give it a try (assuming you are physically able). Sent from my XT1585 using BariatricPal mobile app

I was the same. The good news is as you get further out you'll be able to "chug" a little bit. I am 4 months out and I can drink 4oz of water nonstop when my stomach is completely empty. I can get 8oz in total in about 10 mins. I wish I could drink a full gallon a day again. Oh well. It's worth it. Sent from my XT1585 using BariatricPal mobile app

Do you HAVE to follow a low carb diet?
GrrlAnn replied to slimmingsteff's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thank you! This is very helpful! I think this is where I need to make the change. When my doctor gave me the 120g of carbs guideline it included "whole grain" crackers and bread, potatoes, oatmeal, etc. I will see if I can hit the carb goal using mostly veggies and legumes. Do you HAVE to follow a low carb diet?
GrrlAnn replied to slimmingsteff's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
After being stalled for weeks my nutritionist upped my carbs to 120g of carbs a day in addition to 100g protein while staying under 1500 calories. It's not easy and I frankly don't like it. She said I need the carbs because I do 5 intense 45 minute Bootcamp workouts a week. I am very, very tempted to forgo her advice and go low carb since it has worked so well for me in the past. It also seems like most bariatric nutritionists recommend low carb to their patients. Has anyone else gotten similar nutrition advice (high protein, low fat, moderate carbs)? My hair loss started at 3 months postop (I am now 4 months out). I had been taking biotin for over 2 months and have been hitting my protein, water and vitamin goals every day. I went from losing about 5-10 hairs after showering to 50-100. After a few weeks I went to my salon for my regular hair appointment and asked her for a product to help. She gave me this from Futerer. It's super expensive but it stopped my hair loss almost entirely. Unless it was some kind of coincidence, this stuff really works! http://www.dermstore.com/product_4Step+System+for+Sudden+Thinning+Hair_65112.htm?gclid=CjwKEAjwsLTJBRCvibaW9bGLtUESJAC4wKw1uQ4WaIcUszzvyREOfKbYPDRRD7ORzWl5olCpQarlRBoCn9Lw_wcB&scid=scplp65112&sc_intid=65112&utm_source=fro&utm_medium=paid_search&utm_term=hair+care&utm_campaign=500489 Sent from my XT1585 using BariatricPal mobile app

I have the same question. I have been hitting 100+ grams of protein a day and I don't think more is bad is it's within your calorie goals. I will also like to hear people's thoughts on supplements vs. food for your source of protein. My concern is guidance in carbs. I go to Bootcamp 5 days a week so my nutritionist told be to get 120g of carbs a day... That makes me uncomfortable since low carb had always been so successful for me in the past. She says that I need the carbs otherwise my body will burn muscle which is bad. I'd like to hear what others have to say about that too. Sent from my XT1585 using BariatricPal mobile app
