I am 6 months post op RNY and just started eating pretzels and some bread. I noticed however that my weight loss is stalling and I'm definitely attributing it to eating the carbs. Plus I don't "feel" as good when I eat them. Too heavy. Stopping now so we will see if my weight loss gets back on track

Endoscopic balloon dilation
nursedennise replied to Muñekita's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
What are the symptoms of a structure? I have been having discomfort in the center of my stomach below breastbone x 3 days. But I also ran out of my nexium and didn't have it for a week. -
Anyone heard of less bypass if lower BMI?
nursedennise posted a topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Hi all. Had gastric bypass on 1-18. My surgeon mentioned to me at my last visit that the amount of gut that is bypassed is less when your BMI is less. So basically he said because my BMI was around 41, he only bypassed something like 25% ( or cm - I can't remember) but that with someone with a higher BMI, he could bypass 50% (or 50cm - like I said I can't remember exactly). Has anyone heard of this? I thought all bypasses were the same as far as how much gut was actually bypassed. I almost feel cheated and I hope this doesn't slow my weight loss. I've lost about 46 lbs. 12 from pre-op liquid diet and 34 since surgery. And I feel my weight loss stalled the past week. Also what is the average daily carb intake I should not exceed? I don't see my nut untill next week. Thanks!! -

Thank you! I gave to start watching my carbs better -
Hi, everyone! Question - I hear about everyone "dumping" after rny but I haven't experienced it yet and I am 9 weeks out, but I haven't had anything with sugar. What have experienced twice, though, is a discomfort or "stuck" feeling right in the center of my chest at my sternum. This has only happened recently, when I tried a small amount of finely cut steak and tonight when I had some scrambled eggs. Anyone else have this happen, and is this normal? I've also lost 30lbs since surgery on 1/18/17. Does that sound about right for weight loss? Just curious. thanks! dennise

No dumping---but a "stuck" feeling?
nursedennise replied to nursedennise's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Thanks everyone! Now that I think about it, the eggs and steak were pretty dry. Will make sure to moisten my food and eat slower. I've been pretty good so far and haven't eaten anything with high sugar. Protein shakes so far have definitely been a life saver for me!! -
Just got my Fitbit and I think I'm in love!

3 weeks post out and just starting to feel bad
nursedennise replied to Lovelyladybee's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am 4 1/2 weeks out and finally just starting to feel myself again. First few weeks I was absolutely exhausted. I went back to work after two weeks and find I need to go to bed earlier than usual. Left sided abdominal pain is just a dull ache now unless I overdue it but enough that I need Tylenol every day. Still can't get in all my protein and water though. I average about 32-40 oz water and maybe 50 G protein. But all is getting better. I guess what I'm trying to say is that as time goes on, it will get easier to meet your requirements, easier to walk, not as tired etc. energy will improve. Listen to your body and try not to get discouraged by anyone who makes it seem like it's a breeze and that they are doing everything correctly so why can't you. Forums are similar to Facebook in that there's always people who make things seem like they're life is skipping through roses all day, so we second guess ourselves and wonder what we are doing wrong. Listen to your body, listen to your doctor and nut, and take it one day at a time. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
I wasn't given one either but I went out and bought one. It holds in the left side of me where my surgeon sewed the excess stomach to my muscle with GB. Holds my side in and helps with muscle pain. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Hi all. I am 2 years post menopause and 3 wks post GB. Since GB though I've noticed an increase in hot flashes. Anyone else experience this? Is it normal? One minute I'll be cold, then next minute hot flash hits me. Is it because hormones are in a flux? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

I am about 3 weeks out GB and still have left sided soreness, sometimes severe around incision site. My doc tucked the stomach extra behind the stomach muscle and sutures it to the muscle so if I over exert it can cause a lot of soreness. Perhaps yours did the same? Also should pain could be gas. Try gas x. And if you haven't had BM it will make things a lot worse. All in all you should call your surgeon though and discuss. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Hi all. I had GB on 1-18 and just started puréed foods. I didn't get a sample diet, just a list of foods to eat: Baby food, cottage cheese, yogurt etc. don't even know when to drink Protein shakes in between all this. I can only see my nut 3x a year, and haven't even seen her since I had my surgery. I tried to see her the day of my 1 week check up, but was told that I could not because they wouldn't be able to bill insurance for it because it was same day as doctor visit. Can anyone give me a sample diet or some advice in what you are doing during the puréed stage? I was only told by doctor to get in about 60g protein. I almost feel like I was just discarded now that I had the surgery. Thanks!! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Two surgeries for revision?
nursedennise replied to Nrro's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Hi. They were both scheduled separately. I had my lap band removed first then doc made sure the roux en y would be covered before scheduling it. And luckily I did not have to redo nut or psychiatrist counseling. -

Yes be careful with overeating if the doc does it in two surgeries. I wasn't careful and gained back 20 lbs in the 3 months between surgeries. Good luck!! -

Yes i do journal a lot, i love writing about my journey because i feel so much better afterwards. I even wrote letters to my self ( I know it sounds weird ) to read after i hit specific milestones. I read two of them so far, one was the night before surgery and the other was the day after and that was a really good outlet for me and my emotions. I had the same thing happen. But my doctor would not remove the lap band and then do roux en y at the same time. I had to wait three months in between. Just his personal preference because he said he likes to clean up any scar tissue that accumulates and give my belly time to heal. Good luck and hopefully it can be done In one shot for you! Logging water and food ?
nursedennise replied to jaynamy3's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That is awesome that you guys are logging things in? For some reason I didn't think of that and I wasn't given anything like that to take home with me after surgery. I am 2 1/2 wks post roux en y. Thanks for the ideas and inspiration!! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
Best chewable and gummie vitamins?
nursedennise replied to erica2185's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Your B12 levels would need to be checked first, and then depending on result the shots could be monthly or every three months. We also do hematology and our office usually does weekly x 4 weeks and then monthly. But every doctor is different so follow your doctors advice. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
Best chewable and gummie vitamins?
nursedennise replied to erica2185's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
btw - we can't take regular tablets or capsules of B12 because we can't absorb them. But we CAN absorb sublinguals since they go through your skin (under your tongue) rather than your stomach. So that's why I'm surprised he didn't give you this option. Most surgeons do. And it's WAY cheaper than the nasal form (we can also do B12 injections - but the sublinguals are cheap and do work for most people) I use Wellesse liquid B12. Hold under tongue 30 secs. Tastes good. Just started as I'm only 2 1/2 weeks out so not sure how well it works. Got it from this websites store. Also I found discount cards at my doctors office for the NAscobal which is the nasal spray B12 for only a co-pay of $25. Six days post-op and very sad, i have no idea why
nursedennise replied to cls5186's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
1-17 was mine. The only part that feels "normal" about these roller coaster emotions is knowing I am not alone. Last night I spent my entire night crying until I fell asleep. When I woke up I cried for another couple hours. It really sucks. I wonder how long does this last? Sent from my Y538 using the BariatricPal App 1-17 was mine.
