  1. I'm having a 'mini gastric bypass' on Jan 5th. Has anyone any experience with this particular op? I am so scared! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Mini gastric bypass

Hi [emoji4] So how did it all go and how are you feeling now? x
  3. I'll beg to differ. I'm getting reflux now I've had my mgb and I've never had reflux before. Plenty of info online about it. But by all means - I was only trying to help. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  4. If this was your first Valentine's together, I'd give him the benefit of a doubt. I'd probably offer them to him to take or tell him you'll be sharing them around at work as you CANNOT eat it without puking! If the penny does not drop after that and he buys you chocs again, then I'm sorry but he might not be the one for you. At least that would be me - I expect a minimum amount of brain power and empathy from a partner.
  5. I can only comment on what my surgeon told me. He said that the sleeve and the MGB are similar with regards to the remaining stomach - both are a high pressured valves which can cause acid to leak. I'm not wanting to tell you what to do - I just feel this is important info and once you go ahead with a surgery, you are going to be stuck with it (unless if you decide to go for another afterwards). Getting all the info beforehand is vital!
  6. From: http://www.obesitycoverage.com/mini-gastric-bypass-the-good-bad-and-ugly/ ADDITIONAL RISKS WITH MINI-GASTRIC BYPASS COMPARED TO GASTRIC BYPASS Severe acid-reflux. Because the pouch is small and the remainder of the stomach is still connected to the intestines. It is possible for gastric juices to travel down the intestines and into the new pouch.
  7. re: reflux - that's the total opposite from what my surgeon said to me... and I know that my friend wanted a MGB also but was told she could not have it due to her history of reflux issues...
  8. Hi I am surprised to read you are having the MGB 'due to reflux'. Here in England, reflux seems to be a disqualifying condition for the MGB. The stomach pouch which is created in the process turns your stomach into a 'higher pressure valve' which is unsuitable for someone with exisiting reflux issues (this is according to my surgeon). I never had reflux issues so I had the MGB and now I suddenly do suffer from occasional reflux and indigestion/heartburn. My friend who is using the same surgeon as me has a history of reflux issues and has therefore had to have the RNY bypass. Please do some research and find the ideal surgery for you. It is too expensive and too much of a trauma to end up with the wrong procedure for you!
  9. My op is on the 5th - so in just a few days. It has all happened very quickly and I am feeling anxious. Would love to make some friends to share the highs and lows. I'm 43 with 2 kids and live on the English South coast. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  10. Best of luck for tomorrow - I'll have my fingers crossed for you! Let us know how you got on x
  11. Hi @nataliehogg01 I lost a stone on the pre op. My surgeon was surprised I'd lost so much so I am sure your 8 lbs are likely typical. I think the most important thing is that you stayed off the carbs. Just a few days to go! Glad I have mine behind me
  12. Well done on the willpower!!! It is so so hard! Although I am never hungry I do still get cravings and as much as I like soup, it is not something I want to eat for every meal. So I am glad I am now onto a bit more real food. I am on my 6th day of life without coffee and it's getting better. The headaches are starting to ease off and thankfully I have not been sick since I stopped the coffee. How are things going for you now? x
  13. Failure :-/ that doesnt sound promising lol Im hoping to loose 35kgs about 80 pounds. I went for it as it was the most reversable option if it didnt work out :-) How was your day today? X Sent from my SM-N920I using the BariatricPal App Yesterday was a pretty good day. Had to eat out for lunch as I was at the hospital with my son for a check. I ate baked potato with tuna mayonnaise and it went down surprisingly well (well half of it at least). Then today a big turn. Felt so so ill after drinking coffee. Spent an hour spewing bitter stuff. Yeuch!!! Just about over it now and sipping some clear chicken broth. Guess I might have to consider giving up coffee I have a few friends who had great success with the lapband and seeing that you're not looking to lose a massive amount of weight, it might well be the perfect solution for you! My surgery was suggested by my surgeon. I thought I would most likely have a sleeve but the surgeon suggested the mini bypass. We shall see.... How do you feel you are healing and all that? x Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App Hi Nat Whereabouts are you and what op are you having? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  14. @@BandedBecks I'm on the English South coast, near Southampton. I have been back at work for a week and to be honest, it was time to go back - I was just too bored at home! I was looking at the lap band at the time but was told they dont recommend it anymore due to high failure rates. I really hope yours turns out to be all you wish for! How much are you looking to lose?
  15. @@BandedBecks I had a mini gastric bypass 3 weeks ago. It was a rough couple of days to start with but I seem almost normal now. I am onto baby food consistency foods now. I am realising it is a rather long time since I was a baby!!!!!
  16. @@BandedBecks Hi Rebecca! Congrats on your band - how are you feeling?
  17. How did it go? And how are you feeling? What are you eating?
  18. What are you allowed? We were on blended Soups, blended fruit with yoghurt and Protein shakes.
  19. Great to hear! I got hiccups a few times and also strange little burps would escape me with no warning. Seems to have mostly settled down now though
  20. Brilliant news!!! Glad you're not in too much pain!
  21. Yes, you are right but he will end up with a more active and healthier wife. Just keep the big picture in mind! Best of luck today!!! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  22. I didn't have a food funeral but yes, I did cheat but I figured as the purpose of the liver diet was to draw out as much glycogen as possible, I could have a little more protein (which I was craving) and less of the carb portions. Worked out perfectly, the surgeon even gave me a specific mention for having a 'lovely and perfect' liver. Makes a change for a man to be noticing my 'inner beauty' haha
  23. Big day tomorrow!!!! How are you feeling about it? I know there are many different surgeries but with my mini gastric bypass I feel absolutely no hunger. I have to make myself eat but I do tend to forget because of the lack of hunger. I was hungry around the clock pre op so this is miraculous to me! GOOD LUCK for tomorrow - big hug - let us know how you got on
  24. Yes! As soon as I hit the POST button I realised that I had not included that.... I think it works out as about 15 pre op and 15 post op. Still feel a bit swollen around my midsection - an odd feeling like being pregnant... Do you get the same or are you all healed and back to normal? Which op did you have and how are you feeling now?
  25. Glad to hear you are 'like yourself' again! I am mostly fine. Still the odd annoying bit but fine all in all. Woke with indigestion so had a bit of a yukky day today but it was the first time I've had indigestion. Then tried a scrambled egg for my first 'proper' food post surgery and it made me sick. I will not be trying that again anytime soon! Apart from that I think I've lost about 30lbs in 2 weeks so I guess all is going to plan
