Food addiction How do you deal
Renea Glover replied to Renea Glover's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Sarah, How far out are you? I've done it too and felt super bad afterwards; it's what made me realize I really had a problem if I could do that after having this surgery something I wanted for so long. I cried and wrote down what I was feeling. It will get better don't be discouraged and stop trying you just have to figure out what works for you, I set alarms to remind me to eat and drink every couple of hours so I don't get hungry and make bad choices. I also find other activities to do to keep my busy so I'm not constantly thinking bout food, I'd also recommend a therapist or just having someone to talk to in general about what your going thru it helps to say it out loud or like I said write it down and re-read it to yourself will make up re-think the next time you feel the urge to do so. I literally had to start getting into the habit of throwing food away that was unhealthy or leftovers my kids didnt eat just so I wouldn't eat it. I hope some of this helps you. Good luck -
So everyone says my main focus should be consuming a certain amount of protein and water. Well I find myself not getting enough of either so I started making my protein shakes stronger like 60 grams in one shake so i could reach my protein goal but this ended up mounting to 380 calories in one drink. Is that a bad thing? The break down is 8oz fair life milk (13g protein 80 calories) 1 scoop whey protein powder ( 30g protein 180 calories) 1 frozen triple zero greek yogurt (15g protein 120 calories) blended into one drink...

My mental battle with Food and the scale
Renea Glover posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I had my sleeve October 12th, 2016 and I still struggle mentally with food(having to choose between food & water)and thinking I can eat more then my stomach allows and it makes me feel as if Im doing something wrong or not progressing how I thought I would. I started my journey at 412 lbs and on my surgery date I was 386 and now 334 lbs. Does that sound right for almost 12 weeks out? It's funny I thought (not really) that I'd wake up smaller and the weight would just fall off. But I feel like I'm at a stand still. I mean I notice little changes like being able to stand longer, more energy, and fitting in a chair I couldn't fit in before but overall I'm still in the same clothes. How are all of you progressing? -
I had a plan and I stuck to it! Food does not control me
Renea Glover posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Today is the first day I actually know exactly what I took in. I set alarms to remind me when to eat and drink, I counted and recorded my calories and Protein. Ya'll just don't know how huge that is for me I made a plan and I stuck to it drank my Water, boiled some eggs, went to the gym, carried a lunch bag that contained my protein shakes, jerky, turkey sticks, string cheese, ect. Enjoyed a veggie burger with lettuce & tomato for dinner. I did not get hungry between meals and I did not eat anything that I didn't plan to. This is my life I'm accountable and I'm finally taking control. -

How often are you eating? Sent from my SM-N920V using the BariatricPal App It varies but for the most part every couple of hours alternating between food and fluids... for example i get up at 6am I have 8 oz of water to re-hydrate from sleeping, 7am breakfast(usually 1 boiled egg or scrambled), 9am (water, tea, or shake), 11am , 1pm , 3p, 5p, 7p after 7 I don't have anymore food or Snacks just fluids -

during my liquid phase I drank broth, cream of chicken soup, tea, flavored water Jello, as I could tolerate a little more I added cream of wheat. It know feels like a lot right but you have to get more liquid in so you don't get dehydrated and end back up in the hospital. I'm almost 12 weeks out and just getting it together again. Good luck with your continued progress. -

Food addiction How do you deal
Renea Glover replied to Renea Glover's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I saw someone as well pre-surgery and I'm definitely looking into it more now that I've realized the extent of it. I'm an emotional eater. I eat when I'm sad, happy, bored, ect but now I am aware and working on it. -

Breanna I remember being scared I messed up my sleeve too. Im still learning but I know its about pacing ourselves a lot of things will be trial and error but We still have to eat or your body will shut down and go into starvation mode. Have to find the right balance and sipping thru a straw helps me too. Good luck you can do it Sent from my N9518 using the BariatricPal App -
Protein vs Calories what's too much
Renea Glover replied to Renea Glover's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
There is a ton of research that dispels this myth because its way more complicated than that. They type of protein and how long it takes you to digest the meal will affect how much protein your body absorbs. So 60g in a a shake is going to absorb differently than say 60 g of protein from an actual meal. Which is one of the reasons I mix my protein powder with food. What kind of food pureed, Jello, whole? Protein vs Calories what's too much
Renea Glover replied to Renea Glover's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Because I also workout pretty often I try to aim for higher protein to also build up my muscle mass the fair life milk has 13grams and 1 scoop of my Protein Powder is 30 grams alone so one shake with nothing extra added would be 43grams 30 minimum if i substitute the milk for Water. However you are right I do need to do better at spacing them out. Thank you for your input -
Protein vs Calories what's too much
Renea Glover replied to Renea Glover's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Ok thank you Im going to split it up into 2 meals and possibly substitute the milk for Water at times to decrease calories. My trainer did advise that the more I work out thou the more I need to take in to fuel my body. I just need to track it better -

Renea Glover replied to Renea Glover's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm going to start splitting it up between 2 meals and I could also do it with water as I have before. I've been so consumed with meeting the protein requirement that I completely forgot about calories. Do u think it makes a difference if I'm working out regularly as well? -

Maybe if i divide my shake up between two meals. Ive never been good at counting calories or measuring food to actually know completely what I'm taking in -

Jenn1 sometimes I get too busy and forget to eat all together so I try to at least get it in at Breakfast, then other times I find myself having to choose between food and Water and i almost always choose food because I can only take in such a small amount... but I try to focus on chicken, fish, salad, and veggies... however my kids bringing in snack foods doesnt help at all. My eyes are still truly bigger than my stomach and its something I really have been struggling with -

Renea Glover replied to vegbeth's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Yes I was so surprised when I had a hard time with Water because I always loved water and now I have to flavor it to get it down and sip thru a straw. It gets easier I'm almost 3 months out Sent from my N9518 using the BariatricPal App -

Happy New Year, I was Sleeved on Dec 7th and only have lost 18 pounds. I see so many postings of people loosing up 40 pounds. I'm little disappointed but I guess every body is different. Good luck Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N920A using the BariatricPal App I had rny the same day and have only lost 11 lbs. But I also have severe fibromyalgia and arthritis so it's not as easy to exercise. One day at a time. We'll all get there. Sent from my SM-S903VL using the BariatricPal App Yes we will. Have you tried Swimming? Its less strain on your joints but works your whole body. I joined my local YMCA and swim every Tuesday & Thursday Sent from my N9518 using the BariatricPal App
