  1. I keep reading on the Internet that she had "planned" to have it out. Anyone know if she actually had it removed?

Lap band - don't do it!! Scarred for life

Hair loss doesn't discriminate. It's due to rapid weight loss and could happen w/o surgery (happened to my aunt).

    Why did you choose RNY?

What I suggest (which is what I did) is to do lots of research on the net. If you ask here, most will say the band is the way to go. If you go on a RNY forum, they will say it's the way to go. The ultimate decision is yours and your doctor's. Good luck!

    Olive Garden NOT accomadating!!

Oh, that sucks! I was lucky b/c when I was in Vegas we went to a buffet. I was so lucky to get the child's price of $9.99 b/c the adult price was $21.99! Sorry they didn't accommodate you.

Lap band - don't do it!! Scarred for life

I didn't have the band (was going to, but changed my mind to RNY) but felt compelled to write on this thread. First off, I'd like to say sorry that you had so much trouble. I couldn't imagine living like that for three years, with or w/o surgery. I'd also like to say that even though you had that experience doesn't mean that's how everyone's will be. When I was researching Lasik eye surgery I found a forum that scared the CRAP out of me. They tried to talk me out of it telling me how bad it was. I decided to get it regardless. I'm almost 3 years out and doing excellent. Unfortunately not everything works on everyone. With that being said, you are entitled to your opinion and your story. It's always good to hear the good and the bad. I hate hearing how people gain weight after RNY, but I always read the negative posts. I want to know what I may deal with in the future and decide now how I may remedy that. So, good luck to you!

You're a woman. You're allowed the change your mind! LOL Good luck with your choice.

    Why did you choose RNY?

I know how you feel with being confused! I was considered a "lightweight" too. My BMI was barely 40 when I got mine done. My ultimate decision was based on what my doc thought would work for me. I trusted his decision in the end and so happy with what I ultimately went with. Good luck with whatever you decide!
  9. When I was considering the band, I purchased this soft-cover book. It was very informative. It is called: Weight Loss Surgery with the Adjustable Gastric Band-Everything you need to know before and after surgery to lose weight successfully by Robert W. Sewell, MD, FACS, and Linda Rohrbough. It looks brand new, as there are no rips, tears, bends, etc. I paid $16.95 at Borders and figured I'd offer it here before putting it on eBay. The price is $10.00 (shipping + delivery confirmation included). This price is cheaper than eBay and Amazon. I take Paypal only. If you'd like references, you can check out my eBay id: puppytreasures, as I have 238 positive feedbacks. Below is the actual picture of the book. If you are interested, please PM me. You can never have too many informational WLS books! Thanks for looking!

Thanks, Nancy. I figured if I don't have any takers here, I'll try ebay! :biggrin2:
  13. I have a WLS AGB book for sale and wondered if I could offer it for sale on the forum? Thanks!

    Selling a book on LBT~allowed???

OH! No! LOL I was wondering why you thought I'd pay hundreds of dollars to sell one $16.95 book! Thanks for the okay. I didn't want to post without asking. PS. I wish I'd written a book!

Do any of you get "crap" from RNY

That's so sad, but you have a point. Maybe it's not all about what we do to our insides, but who's lost the most weight! A lot of women are competitive that way. I've gotten tons of support here on the forums and haven't gone to a support group yet. But I'll tell ya, if a fellow RNYer says something nasty to a bandster (or visa versa) I'm gonna be livid! :crying:

    Why did you choose RNY?

I just wish I could get rid of that darn book! I read it when I was thinking of the band, and it's a great book! :crying: Sorry again, to hear about your daughter. She's so young to have to deal with these problems. I'm going to my doc today and am going to ask him why he doesn't recommend purees. I'm also going to tell him about my hypothesis about healing the connections.

Do any of you get "crap" from RNY

You see...now THAT'S why we get along so well! :crying: I also want to add that some RNYers may not have even considered the band pre-op. I for one, and not one of those people. I was ALL about the band. Did research, talked on here, and even bought a book (and I hate to read LOL). So, I know the problems that bandsters face...not first hand, of course, but I can relate! So, all I was trying to say is that...we should all be able to support each other regardless of what type of surgery we've had. We are all fat or formerly fat...we've all gone through similar obstacles in our life! We BBWs and BBMs should be able to stick together through "thick and thin." (pun intended) :biggrin2: So, to the poster (luluc) that I had a "pissing match" here with. I apologize, and don't want to argue with you. That would be defeating my whole purpose!

Do any of you get "crap" from RNY

I'm sorry you are getting that type of "support." I don't think it's right for any WLS patient to be so against the other. That goes for RNYers bashing Bandsters too! Just as people on this board share their experiences, I wanted to share mine in that I've never seen/heard anyone bash the other. But, life is short, and I have now! :crying:

Do any of you get "crap" from RNY

You DO seem like you have a problem with anyone who disagrees with you! Brandy wasn't even referring to you. :crying: So, if you don't like to get into pissing matches, why does it seem like you are starting them?

Honey, my anger is in check. And why should I move past an offensive post, if you just wrote me back?! LOL You're pretty funny!

Do any of you get "crap" from RNY

Not part of "my world". That's rich. Talking about each other shouldn't be in ANY world. We are all human and WLS patients. I think you missed my point. I'm not saying that people here weren't supportive when I thought I wanted the band. Even when I chose RNY they wished me well. But why badmouth RNYers? You proved my point..I'm a RNYer, so I am "wrong." Oh, and as I said...I'm sure some RNYers wish they got the band, but I haven't read about any. And don't make innuendos about "going back" to "my" forum. I've made friends here. Wish you luck too with your weight loss. THAT is all that should be said to one another.
  24. I've never had the band, but I just want to say sorry your band failed you. :whatchutalkingabout It sucks when we work so hard and our tool doesn't work. So, welcome to the RNY world. :biggrin2:

Do any of you get "crap" from RNY

YIKES! I want to add one more thing after reading a lot of the posts on this thread...I am on another forum that has mostly RNY patients and we don't talk about bandsters like you guys are talking about RNYers. I'm SHOCKED at what I read here. Sorry to say this, but people who talk about others are usually not happy with their choice.. That's why we don't "talk about" bandsters. We are happy with our RNY decision...and not all of us dump, need B12 shots, lose our hair, etc. I also want to add that we get a lot of failed bansters who want to convert to RNY, but I haven't heard of anyone with a failed RNY who wished they had gotten the band to begin with, though there may be some out there. Now, I know I will probably be bashed b/c I am currently posting on a LB forum, but come on! Does it make you feel better to badmouth RNYers and put us in a separate group? :whatchutalkingabout As I said, we are all WLS patients.
