Do any of you get "crap" from RNY

I'm a RNY patient and would NEVER say negative things to someone for getting the band over the RNY, so I hope you are not stereotyping us. If a bander (or pre-opper) asks me why I chose RNY as opposed to band, then I will tell them my reasons. But everyone's body is different and even though you have plastic in you and my insides are rewired doesn't make either of us better! We both have a tool that we need to make the best of. No need for segregating us! We are all WLS patients. :whatchutalkingabout

    Why did you choose RNY?

Hey BrandyII :biggrin2: I wasn't sure it was you until I saw your name down the bottom. Sorry your daughter had a stricture. :whatchutalkingabout I know they are pretty common with RNY. May I ask...was your daughter on liquids and/or puree for a while? If so, I swear that's a contributing factor for the anastomosis healing so tightly. I was on mushable (chicken, fish, etc.) from about 10 days out! I haven't had any problems (knock on wood). On a good note...I can't believe she's down 100lbs. That is so great! I'm so happy for her!

    Why did you choose RNY?

I originally had my mind set on the band. Then I went to the doc and he mentioned the RNY in passing. He told me he thought I'd do better with the RNY. I was SOOOOOOO confused as I thought I was set on the band. After a grueling week or so going back and forth with my decision, and asking people for their opinions on different forums, I decided on the RNY. I'm very happy with my decision!
  5. I'm about 225 and have not been banded yet. I obviously need to lose 75-100lbs to be the "ideal" weight. Is it just me, or are others afraid of getting saggy skin? I know there's always plastic surgery, but I don't think I can afford that. And I know that it's healthier to be thin with skin, but I can't help thinking about it. Anyone know how much one has to lose to get that saggy skin? :crying: What exercises tighten the skin? Anyone lose that much weight and not have saggy skin?
  6. I had my initial consultation yesterday, and was all set on the band. Well, the doc also discussed RNY with me. He was NOT pressuring me either way, he just wanted to discuss my options. Now I'm confused! :cursing: I don't know which to do! :cursing: I have 80-100lbs to lose and he said I'd lose more with the RNY. I know this is a band forum, but I'd appreciate honest advice. Thank you so much!

Help me please! AGB vs RNY

Thank you very much. I'm a member there, but find that the "boards" (Vbulletin, phpbb, etc.) are so much easier to read and more organized. But I do go there from time to time. I love looking at the before and after pics!

Help me please! AGB vs RNY

No prob! It's just that I spoke with my doctor and psych and they both said there are better results with RNY and that I'd be a good candidate. It was a TOUGH decision! If you want to chat more, PM me and I will give you my email address. :biggrin2:

Help me please! AGB vs RNY

Thanks for all your help here on LBT. I've made my final decision today and have decided to do the RNY. Good luck to EVERYONE!!! You all have been very nice to me.

Help me please! AGB vs RNY

Thanks for all your responses! I know I have to make this decision myself, but any and all input is helpful. Thanks again!
  13. I can't believe it! It came so fast! :blushing: I'm actually seeing the nutritionist tomorrow too. I was supposed to see the nutritionist and psychologist on Thursday, but the psycologist cancelled due to a death in the family, so I moved that too. I hope that I can scedule a tentative surgery date tomorrow. Wish me luck! :scared2:
  14. I tried to add you to my Myspace, but it says I need to know info about you. If you'd like to be friends, here's mine: www.myspace.com/luv4yorkies

Tomorrow is my initial surgeon consulation!

What worried me was that he was saying with the band the "average" is 20-30% of your excess weight. So for me that'd be like 20-30lbs. That is so not enough! He obviously said that it can go both ways (meaning people can lose more, less, or none at all!). My gut is saying going with the band. I should probably go with my gut feeling. I will, though research the RNY and see more about it. Thanks again for your help! Hey, are you going to the support group on 4/30? If so, I'd love to meet you! :crying:

Tomorrow is my initial surgeon consulation!

Everything went well. Thanks for asking! I really like him a lot! He's not bad on the eyes either. :cursing: My date is June 24th! Exactly the time I wanted. BUT...I'm confused now! He started talking about the RNY and now I don't know which to do! I need serious help deciding!!!
  17. I was told by my surgeon that the weight they put on the insurance forms is what goes through. For example, I am currently at 40BMI, but if I lose weight before surgery, it's okay. Now, if the surgeon specifically said he wouldn't work on you if you were below 35...now that's another story. I think you should call and ask or sign up for a seminar before you get worried. :blushing:
  18. I'm a teacher, and we currently have Oxford. As of July 1st we will be going to BCBS. When I go see the surgeon next week I'll have to make sure that my surgery is in June. I hope that's doable. I don't know what plan we will get with BCBS and I don't want to have to wait 6 months doing preop God knows what b/c Oxford is easy!

What to do when you can't sleep?

Oops, guess I should have read this before I posted about Melatonin. :tongue_smilie: I also have BIG trouble staying asleep.

    lump in throat

That's called Globus Sensation. It can be from reflux and also anxiety. I find taking Xanax helps when I have that "lump" feeling. It's very annoying. Good luck!
