What is the best research site for bariatric surgery?
hikerdog replied to Mountaln Gal's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
If watching it doesn't freak you out, look for videos. I watched the actual surgical procedures on YouTube. It really helped me understand how each procedure differs. -
Between pre-op loss of 30 and 4 week post-rny loss of 15 lbs, I'm down a couple of pant sizes & I feel healthier. When I look in the mirror, I kind of see a difference but I do not really see a difference (not sure if that makes sense). When people compliment me, I think they are just trying to be nice because they know I had wls. Has anyone had a hard time accepting that the weight loss is actually a reality?

Scale says I've lost weight but...
hikerdog replied to hikerdog's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Thank you! I realized it's gonna take some time to accept a new smaller me after an entire life of seeing my larger self. -

I had RNY on 12/20. This might just be a coincidence but I got pink eye in one eye, about 2 weeks ago. My eye looked similar to your eyes. I got Rx antibiotic drops and it cleared in a few days. -
I'm not sure what it is but you might want to wear a knee brace just to keep it stabilized until it heals. If it keeps hurting, you should get it checked. The brace helped me previously when I strained some unknown muscle and going up or down stairs hurt.

I got foil packs of Salmon Creations (lemon &dill) then used a hand mixer to add a few tablespoons of Fage' plain greek yogurt. Really easy to get my protein in that way.

I kept a water bottle by my bed so I could work on getting a little bit of my water during the night. When I got up in the morning, it was nice to have already gotten a few ounces down.

I am almost 4 weeks postop. I felt the same way but within the past few days, I definitely started feeling full. I think it is from healing and the transition to some solid foods. Hang in there...

I am a 4 weeks post op so I can eat chicken, beans, cooked veggies, etc... This week,I decided to do my first eating out trial. I went to Moe's (fresh Tex Mex) & ordered a bowl with black beans and chicken. I asked them to add half the rice but add more pico. I said no to the chips. The chicken was moist & I cut into tiny pieces. When I introduce new foods, I start with a couple of bites and wait a while to see how I feel. I ate about half of the chicken and a few bites of pico, sour cream and guacamole. I only ate 2 bites of rice. It all tasted awesome. I felt like a normal person. I felt good so I officially added it to my "ok list". I took the left overs to have for dinner.

Does everyone have to do endoscopy
hikerdog replied to britt_will_getsleeved17's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm 47 and I have insurance. I only had to do a barium swallow test we showed no problems. I think if they had seen any problems they might have also done the endoscope. -
If you like it and it's ok with your doctor, try egg drop soup. That was my favorite during immediate post op.

I made the mistake of adding water from my Keurig (way too hot) to Unjury chicken soup. It clumped together & looked like some kind of genetically modified chicken. Now, I follow the instructions. Lol

Last week, I was lying down and felt my hip bone, at first, I thought what the heck is that? Then I really laughed at myself.

When I couldn't face any more premixed shakes, I mixed FairLife 2% Milk with Unjury chocolate powder. It tastes really good.

Crushed by today's weigh-in
hikerdog replied to White Sale's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My Dr said they calculate % of excess weight lost to evaluate success. Since BMI and other factors influence the rate of loss, comparisons are not always valid. Tracking percent of excess weight lost can be a good way to track your progress. -
Quenching thirst/drinking fast
hikerdog replied to lacylou's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Im almost 3 weeks post op (rny bypass). Since surgery, I prefer any drinks (water, protein shakes, etc...) to be slightly cool or even room temperature, especially first thing in the morning. Not sure why but cool water feels kind of weird going down. I'm probably drinking too much too fast. I like to refill the "Smart Water" bottles. Since they are 22oz, I try to drink 2 per day. -

Since Ive traded water for shakes and I'm doing a little bit of time on the elliptical each day, I'm seeing a difference on the scale. -

hikerdog replied to White Sale's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had bypass on 12/20. At 1 wk postop appt, I was only down a couple of pounds. I also thought wtf? OMG, researchers will interview me as a case study of the only patient who lost no freakin weight. I'm drinking more protein water(60 calories), less shakes (180 calories). Just this week, I'm finally getting that "full" feeling ppl described after eating a small amount. When I returned to work, I was busy and actually had to remind myself to eat. Hang in there!
