So How Many Of You Guys Want To Actually Get Down To A Normal BMI?
PatientEleventyBillion replied to Proud2BMe's topic in The Guys’ Room
Ideally I'd like to get back to what I was 5 years ago.. 180, not unreasonable. However, if my body wants me lower, then so be it. If it wants me at 200, so be it. Being healthy and happy is all that matters. -
Esophagitis 4 months Post Op
PatientEleventyBillion replied to Blater's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
For the vast majority who get reflux post-op its because of food they're eating that triggers reflux. -

A lot of criticism on this app
PatientEleventyBillion replied to jfcajr's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I agreed with him that his criticism was constructive, and wasn't berating. How you got I agreed with him that "someone isnt worthy".. no idea, but that's hilarious. Thank you for that. What you should be questioning is why OP made this thread. It has nothing to do with WLS, it's instead whining about posters putting out negative opinions regarding his food choices that he posts in the open for people to respond to. -

There's a lot of that going around. -

PatientEleventyBillion replied to jfcajr's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
When one gets offended by harmless criticism and starts making topics whining about it, they deserve the retort. If one wants to make posts about eating garbage and not hear opinions from others, maybe put in their signature "I'm too sensitive for honest opinions" so then people can praise them instead. They'll completely screw up their surgery but at least they'll be free of people critiquing their choices. -

Wish you had, would have loved to see the forum rampage as you release all that pent up anger. -

PatientEleventyBillion replied to jfcajr's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That's why I made this thread.. I was so angry I wanted to complain a lot about people giving an opinion about eating garbage (and likewise lure several familiar trolls as well). Wait, I didn't. But no thanks, no crap for me. -

Between this and the guy proud of eating peeps (aka crap)... -
Pasta was always a big one for me. Not until last year did I ever look at the carbs at pasta. But then again, my diet overall, in hindsight, was just laden with carbs and crap so not out of the ordinary. I'm just thankful the body is forgiving. (Anyone else having an issue with paragraph spacing?)

PatientEleventyBillion replied to jfcajr's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Difference: I'm not complaining about opinions criticizing eating crap. I'm complaining about personal attacks, which no one but you is doing. Indeed decorum is key, and as stated in the very forum rules I talked about earlier, opinions are more than welcome, which includes criticism of eating candy. Bashing people for giving their opinion strays from that. Obviously neither you nor the OP know the difference, and are likely being far too sensitive to have a reasonable discussion with. Hopefully over the weekend you can settle down. -
Drinkable Yogurt.
PatientEleventyBillion replied to Dtru's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
In Canada they have YOP drinks which are Yoplait brand. They're very reasonable with sugar/carb amount, given how much (or rather, more aptly, how little) you can/should actually (need to) consume on the liquid stage, won't be a massive deal. -
Did you have to exercise up to 2hrs and 15mins or equivalent it to 5000 steps everyday to be cleared by your psych?
PatientEleventyBillion replied to Tiale's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Yeah, I was given this goal of 10k steps a day, not as a requisite for anything, but because "it was healthy". Problem was, I had fractures in my L5/S1 vertebrae. I couldn't take out the trash without it absolutely killing my back. My step counter said I averaged a meager 800 steps as a result. 10k steps = more injured back, until a competent doctor came along (my internist), did tests and an x-ray and MRI on my back and found the fracture. Then I've had facet joint injections into my back since which immediately enabled me to reach 3000-6000 steps on a daily basis. A terrible health provider won't look for underlying causes for things. A good one will. -

PatientEleventyBillion replied to jfcajr's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You can get as angry as you like. Namecalling people is not tough love, that's called ad hominem. It's a terrible substitute for presenting a valid opinion. It's also not so coincidentally against the rules here. -
The premise of the keto diet aligns quite well with "keeping carbs in check". I'm not much into the "high fat" aspect of keto, but I am okay with moderate healthy fats, high protein, and 0-4g of carbs a serving. Yes, it rules out a lot of the crap I used to eat, but it also depends on the purpose.. for me, it's merely to stay alive and be healthy. One needs very small quantities of carbs for energy, that's all the liver can store and make use of anyways before converting to fatty acids and distributing it. Given my extensive liver damage from garbage foods I'm almost excessively aware of the implications of reversing this course.

PatientEleventyBillion replied to jfcajr's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This is where things cross the line. Criticism of a behavior, or of an opinion, versus attacking people. This is something @BigVifferdid not do, yet you are. I thank you for illustrating exactly what I was talking about. One would think that the internet teaches people to have thicker skin, yet they find reasons to get upset at even the most trivial things. -
Does it really take 2 years?
PatientEleventyBillion replied to kinipela24's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It more depends on their body type, genetics, dietary changes/intake, surgery effectiveness (how well the surgery was done), etc. I think all that one can expect is that you do your best to stay on the wagon and be healthy. In my case, I can gain and lose extremely easily. Metabolism is a wreck. That's why I already have planned out a post-op diet and will be sticking to that to keep the weight permanently down. My sister on the other hand is 5'3 95 pounds and can eat a house and not gain a pound. -

PatientEleventyBillion replied to jfcajr's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I agree with this completely. I don't see anything wrong whatsoever with honesty, nor do I see how any of those posts cited are berating whatsoever. I think OP is being very sensitive and merely looking for posts that validate their behaviors. -
Protein bars
PatientEleventyBillion replied to dalvavsg's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
I assume just snack for protein if you don't want to get stuff like Beneprotein. Just be wary of protein bars, there's been some health issues with them lately.. unsafe levels of lead being one. -
How to forgive someone?
PatientEleventyBillion replied to My Bariatric Life's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I see life as a long list of choices, some we regret, others we don't. So I can forgive.. I just won't forget, and I made sure everyone in the family knows what she pulled, and for a diddling pedo. I won't know when she dies, and quite honestly, I don't care. My father died when I was 10 and I'm content knowing I have no parents at 34, but I have a beautiful family of my own and we're all the stronger for what happened. Well out of that situation and doing fantastic. Personally, I don't feel like I need any deity or belief system to cope with my issues, our own strength showed to be more than adequate. It's just unfortunate I had to be stuck with a pathetic family, and a worthless ex-mother. -
OutsideMatchInside I think pinned it down with talking about people's body composition. I rarely find people suggest that everyone benefits equally or everyone should do this diet, because everyones tolerance, discipline, comorbidities, genetics, etc. are not the same. But that isn't the issue, the issue is suggesting the keto diet has no scientific basis, which is 100% wrong.

The data used in the link I provided does provide as much data as is available. It's why I cited it rather than one of the journals where you see the results but no data, or where other people would have to pay for access to see the data. Nothing is perfect, but as pointed out earlier, whatever diet that someone can comply with that is healthy is likely the best for them. For some this is the keto diet. In my case, my pre-operative weight loss was exclusively because of this diet after the misery of the first few weeks attempting a liquid diet drinking carb-laden "Glucerna" which is supposed to be for diabetics, yet was demanded by my RD. What I find more about people on the keto diet is they tend to be more informed about the effects of it. Vastly different than the similar Atkins fad where people had no idea what they were doing, just jumping on a bandwagon because commercials.

Any cursory search of med journals reveals results synonymous to this paper. While there is long term data lacking the same can be said of the VSG itself yet its clear efficacy makes it justified, just like this diet. And reminder: this thread is about the keto diet. I haven't read all posts here but I don't usually see diet fanaticism. My issue is bashing the diet and equating it to pseudo science when there is already real science out there. While there are lazy people who give credence to fad diets of all variety, it makes no difference to the science behind the efficacy of this one when done properly.
