    What's your water drinking schedule?

I drink it as often as I can.. literally.

    Drain and catheter?

I had a drain but no catheter.. there was quite a lot of fluid the first day that the drain caught.. if they don't use a drain I would wonder how they get the fluid out.. just patiently suction it out? Delegate that to someone else? I peed shortly after I began walking around, so around 5 hours after waking up from surgery. It was extremely difficult at first since I wasn't getting much help from my muscles, and I certainly could not pee standing up for a few days. However.. I'm actually quite happy I did not have a catheter. They would have put one in if I hadn't peed during my stay, and probably would have probably wanted me to stay a second night.

    April sleevers!?

Same, I never had gas pains. Good thing we had the receipt for Gas-X, can just take that crap back.. never opened it. About the ir(regularity), I've been a gushing faucet since discharge.. they wanted me having Milk of Magnesia 3 times a day.. might as well put a pillow on the toilet and sleep on it, just non stop crapping and drinking up to 2L of water a day to stay hydrated. Thankfully they finally pulled me off it and suggest imodium or whatever. A fairly miserable first week if I say so. It's great that you managed to lose weight in your hospital stay. Had a stall from hospital stay to about 2 days ago. Went from 282 to 288, gaining roughly 6 pounds from IV fluids, noticed I retained some of them in my legs. Thought about asking doctor to put me back on a water pill I discontinued at surgery, but since 2 days ago it's virtually gone and I'm starting to drop weight again, vowing to keep on the diet plan even if it was a prolonged stall.. It's been a struggle to get even more than 40g of protein on this liquid diet, but once I get to soft solids and can move to beans, meat sauce, string cheese, and eggs, won't be an issue whatsoever. It's great seeing other April sleevers progress.

    4 oz per hour?

Liquids go right through you. They also tend to be laden with carbs. You should not expect early on to be retaining food as if you were having dense protein foods. It's very possible to beat the sleeve in the very way you described.. it's up to you to moderate yourself.

    Deep "Dive"

Same for me. I knew I should have asked for vagina flavored protein powder.

    April sleevers!?

The surgery is the easy part.. everything that comes after henceforth, maintaining good habits, that's the challenge. Best of luck.

    Vitamins

I was advised to stop all vitamins 2-3 weeks before surgery. Just wait until you're cleared post-op for chewables/liquid. As for what vitamins, I really don't understand how one could ask this.. do you guys not have a dietitian/nutritionist? Classes?
  11. PatientEleventyBillion

    Vitamins

If you can take medication, you can take chewable vitamins. So.. I'd say immediately at discharge (i.e. when they clear you for liquids). Just make sure to chew it well.

    April sleevers!?

Same. I was walking around about 5 hours after. Definitely a good idea to walk as soon as you can.

mild sleep apnea - I'm pissed

Most people fail CPAP trials. In my case, I couldn't accurately do my trial because of recurring sinus issues. Sleep apnea is directly associated long term with issues like heart attacks and strokes. Over the short term it's not likely to cause much harm, but in the long term it will. 5 apneas an hour is perfectly normal. When I did my SS I had 55 apneas per hour.. way too many. Many apneas means lower oxygen intake, which means long term damage to essential organs that require it. Sufficed to say, it should not go untreated. Given the fact that OSA is a comorbidity like diabetes, high BP, liver diseases, etc., it makes sense from an insurance perspective that they are treating you for this. If you have diagnosed OSA that is. If you're having 5 per hour and got this diagnosis, seek a second opinion. I will point out during my tonsillectomy/adenoidectomy that I was under GA, just like my VSG last Thursday. They knew the issues I had in advance and everything went fine.

    Swimming

Given the ambiguity of this I'd get seen and cleared first before going.

    feeling full

Head hunger. Something you'll have to fight and overcome. Stick to your plan and you should be fine. Make sure to have regular checkups with your dietitian/nutritionist. Given you're already a month out I would make sure to see one, particularly one who is familiar with post-op WLS surgery diets.

    First Time Dating... Ever

I'm weird so my approaches were: - Don't ever date. If I just wanted a one-nighter with someone, don't need a dating facade to get some. Be nice, show interest, and an interested woman will come forth. - The best relationships I've always been in, i knew the person well in advance of taking that step. I think of the dating scene to be far too much like a job interview. People always put their best foot forward. I think of it as phony. Then PersonA gets involved with PersonB, they believe what they experienced on the date is going to be what they get in an actual relationship. They wind up finding out that's far from the case.. most can't handle that. I sure as hell couldn't. People play games, mind gymnastics, etc. because they don't know the other person, or because they're scumbags. I've been engaged 3 times and all 3 times I knew the person well.. each relationship lasted about 5 years before this one -- only once have I been married and I'm happily in my 7th year of marriage. I just never saw the dating scene as fun. I'd much rather be alone and tug the timber or deal with an occasional one nighter, or just chill with friends, than waste money and time on fake people. Far better things to do.

How do you know when you're full?

If you're full, you've had too much. It's a good idea to go over a post-op diet plan before one has surgery, or take courses where this is explained. The idea is to eat when hungry, not eat until full. If one doesn't get hunger signals, go with the plan.

    "I'm praying for you!"

This is such a spot on post. This forum is dead and if you could ever wonder why is because there's no support, just people whining about religion and finding things to get offended by. Just one skim here and I was like hell naw. Not much camaraderie to be built on such a shoddy premise. If anything demonstrates why I prefer to not be anywhere near other non-religious people (besides wife and daughter).

    April sleevers!?

Lost most of the hospital weight I gained on IV fluids. And Day 4 I don't really feel like I need any pain meds anymore. As expected 4 days out it's mostly just a struggle to get an adequate amount of protein and vitamins. I sort of modified my plan since I have 2 doses of medication per day to add to the 3 doses of calcium separated with the MV and iron all independently.

A lot of criticism on this app

Actually I just read the thread you talked about: And the criticism levied was directly related to the health risks others (and later you) were taking, and that other posters were deliberately being "rebellious" at merely a few days out of surgery. Not smart whatsoever. The logic used by those giving criticism was justified, such the many users, "those doing research", coming across that topic and thinking that just trying new things a few days out is something worth the increased risk of complications. Then of course, @OutsideMatchInsidemic-dropped with the comment about people claiming to want discussion tend to want it instead to be an echo chamber of "yes men". They understand that others use this site for information, as I did before I joined, and someone could mistake this sort of thing for useful information at a critical stage where the risks to one's health is at its highest. Part of discussion is acknowledging that putting forth your opinions and actions can result in criticism. If one only wants affirming opinions, anywhere online is a terrible place for it.

    Can't Stand Water

Well that's unfortunate. I still love ice water just as much as I did pre-op.

    Weight loss on liquid diet

Same here, was all the way up to 288 (6 pound gain) at one point at the hospital. Can't deviate from the premise though, especially so soon. Keep up with protein, water, vitamins, etc.
