April sleevers!?
PatientEleventyBillion replied to Simplyrosie's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
At first but that's because they put some garlic ranch as well. We got a Betty crocker home made pizza maker (thank you Redflagdeals) and been making home made pizzas among all three of us. So delish. -
April sleevers!?
PatientEleventyBillion replied to Simplyrosie's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had some really thin garlic cheese bread as an appetizer when taking wife out for mothers day on Sunday. A few fricken bites and I was full, couldn't even get down one bite of chicken. Had to take the rest home to eat the next day. -
Hunger after surgery?
PatientEleventyBillion replied to FitFLTeacher's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
"after surgery" "3 years" There's no permanent reduction to the feeling of hunger. That's based on a number of factors, such as how much of the fundus was removed (that affect ghrelin), the types of food you eat, etc. That's why it's pivotal to get into good habits when you have the restriction.. the restriction gives way and it becomes 100% up to your habits. If they don't change, the surgery is useless. Does he chart? Track his calories? Protein? Carbs? What does he eat? -
Tell or not to tell....
PatientEleventyBillion replied to gjb2017's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
tbh I think there's a good reason to be open about it. Firstly, have confidence in yourself and your decision making. I do, and it's because I know I'm coming from an educated background, I know the reasons I'm doing this, I've made the decision a while ago that this is what I'm going forward with, no regrets. Secondly, understand the ramifications. If WLS is stigmatized, how does it ever help change this by catering to the stigma and not being open about it? More and more people are going to need it as the comorbidities of obesity become that much more prominent necessitating this kind of surgery. -

It's a sign to give them what they wish for. -
Or better yet, notice them as a fast food menu of personal traits on a dating website.

April sleevers!?
PatientEleventyBillion replied to Simplyrosie's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I wouldn't expect it to be that consistent. I've had some days where I lost 1-2 pounds, some where I stayed the same, and for more than one day. -
Tell or not to tell....
PatientEleventyBillion replied to gjb2017's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Some people are private about their surgery. It's certainly no one else's business. However, if you want anyone to cater to your surgery, it would be the responsible thing to let them know. -
Dates that don't revolve around food
PatientEleventyBillion replied to SassyScienceNerd's topic in Singles Forum
I don't get it.. you want someone to cater to your surgery and your diet restrictions, but don't want to explain anything. This is why I never cared for the dating scene. Too many people expecting mind readers. Communication (or lack thereof) is by far the biggest reason relationships/friendships of any kind fail. It's so much easier to just be up front and honest. Why people wish to play around and complicate things/make things more difficult is beyond me, but not my problem. -
Sleep apnea as comorbidity
PatientEleventyBillion replied to CarmellaX's topic in Insurance & Financing
Interesting info. Regarding the surgery, it most certainly IS long term. What's even more important than the surgery being long term is long term discipline and habits. The surgery is not something meant to be a short stop-gap until you have something else done. When the stomach regains it's size, restriction will give way, and it's 100% up to the person to maintain the habits they were supposed to start. -
People discriminate.. it's the nature of humanity. I've experienced it myself as an American with a lot of Canadian companies out east (Ontario, Quebec).

Help! I ate a whole Pizza. How??
PatientEleventyBillion replied to wlsfeb2017's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Protein rich foods take longer to digest.. slider foods go right through. I'm only 3-4 weeks out and I could drink a gallon of smoothie if I wanted, whereas I can barely take like 2 home made meatballs and I'm almost stuffed to the point of being sick, and feeling that way for the next hour. Restriction is not the same for all types of foods. -
Bile Reflux
PatientEleventyBillion replied to flyingcarb's topic in Mini Gastric Bypass Surgery Forum
Proton pump inhibitor for reducing acid in the stomach. Irrelevant question since I don't think you even had the surgery yet. For bile reflux it might be reduced with a PPI since if one would have bile reflux that would go through the intestines back through the stomach and to the esophagus then they likely have acid reflux issues too so might help both. -
Metabolic Syndrome?
PatientEleventyBillion replied to Ms. Brightside's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I would have easily fit under the metabolic syndrome's 3/5 criteria. https://www.nhlbi.nih.gov/health/health-topics/topics/ms/diagnosis Check. My waistline was around 55 at peak while my stomach was 61. These two are the only ones I don't have. My good cholesterol was fine and my bad cholesterol was only slightly elevated but nothing of concern. Since pre-op diet it fell to around 105-120/75-90, my latest blood pressure post-op since stopping two of my meds (Forxiga for diabetes and HCTZ for blood pressure) was 103/81. HBA1c in March (1 month into pre-op diet) was 7.9mmoL, or in US numbers 142 mg/dl) Regular fasting results of late (endoscopy in March, surgery day in April, post-surgery recovery before discharge) all were at 4.4-4.6 (80-82 mg/dL). Nonetheless, I qualify for the 3/5+ criteria (not even counting liver disease), but I was never diagnosed with metabolic syndrome. There must be other factors too I'm thinking... like age and other stuff. Edit: This forum code is acting really stupid. -
Pre Op Liquid Diet Starting Today
PatientEleventyBillion replied to travelergirl's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
At others said, first few days are the worst. If you've had a ton of carbs/sugars before your diet, it's also very likely you will go through both psychological and physiological withdrawal. That's why when I started my liquid diet I warned my wife I could be very pissy for a while, and indeed I was. -
Bile Reflux
PatientEleventyBillion replied to flyingcarb's topic in Mini Gastric Bypass Surgery Forum
Not enough studies to say for sure but studies I've seen thus far suggest the incidence of bile reflux is higher than I'd personally be comfortable with. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/28214959 http://www.bariatricnews.net/?q=node/1344 Are you on a PPI? -
Regret, full feeling, satisfaction
PatientEleventyBillion replied to Propo's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
To be honest I actually hate eating since surgery and have to make myself. If I could take a pill that provides my body with enough nutrients to be healthy I would just to not have to waste my time. Going from a state of eating when bored or stressed to not even really caring about food I'd say is quite a drastic change. -
Metabolic Syndrome?
PatientEleventyBillion replied to Ms. Brightside's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Metabolic Syndrome is not a simple disease it's a multitude of them and it takes quite a few tests of different things (and often times follow-ups to them) to diagnose this.. what are your underlying causes and their severity? ie diabetes hba1c, liver staging, etc. -
Acid reflux
PatientEleventyBillion replied to Deactivatedfatgal's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
What harm are you talking about I've been taking Lansoprazole (Prevacid) for like 10 years and haven't noticed anything more harmful than being severely fat. Post operatively I've been prescribed Pantoprazole (Pantoloc) for 6 months then I'll go back to Prevacid if I still have reflux. -
Weight loss
PatientEleventyBillion replied to Ray august's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
If you're following a good diet, getting adequate protein, and getting enough vitamins/supplements, I'd say it's fantastic. What I would not say is "any weight loss is good", because that's far from the truth. -
Head hunger and or tongue needs taste buds

Dizzy and lightheaded after bending over
PatientEleventyBillion replied to jaylynnD's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well said. This is something I'm sure many of us who get dizziness are concerned about but if it's these in the bold, it will manifest itself differently. It will be something that will occur throughout the day rather than for a few seconds and go away. For hypoglycemia in particular, there are other side effects depending on severity, such as being shaky as hell, an incredibly severe desire to eat, sudden onset of irritability, extreme difficulty concentrating, sweating and clammy skin, and so on. When it comes to any severe weight loss, people must, especially in the early stages, make sure they're following up with someone (in a medical environment) to ensure there are no complications, to decisively rule out things that could have serious ramifications. -
Dizzy and lightheaded after bending over
PatientEleventyBillion replied to jaylynnD's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Does it go away after a matter of seconds? If so, it's probably nothing to be concerned about. It's a byproduct of intake restriction. If it stays with you for much of the day, should see your doctor. I have similar issues when bending over and pulling myself back up.. or getting out of bed (I've always had a habit of just hopping out of bed or swinging myself out) have to do it slowly. -
I have huge bruises allllll over my legs ! I'm scared pls help !
PatientEleventyBillion replied to xogipsy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I didn't let my daughter jump on me at all after discharge, and had to be adamant about not picking her up to give her a hug and kiss.. very hard to change habits like that for a while.
