  1. Anyone using Dr. LePort in Fountain Valley. I am at the beginning stages of the whole process. I just want time to fly. I am still in my 6 mos diet (insurance req) I will be doing my psych exam next week. I have already been to one support group and my Dr. Talk is scheduled for the end of April.
  2. My daughter has older pictures of me when I was alot thinner. She looks at the pictures and says "look how beautiful you were then mom" OUCH! but I know once I loose the weight, I will start dressing and feeling more confident. I can't wait to be able to go shopping at the same stores as my beautiful daughter
  3. I will be that skinny girl walking on the promenade in Santa Monica
  4. I want to play basketball with my teenage daughter. I want to shop in a regular clothing store. I want to ride the rollercoasters at Knotts Berry Farm. I want to walk into a night club and be flirted with again. I want to get out of bed and not hurt. I want to go a waterpark ( I have never been to one)

    Tickler

Can someone tell me how/where I put the weight loss tickler on my profile?
  6. wow. I am lucky, once my insurance authorizes it, it should be paid in full. I haven't seen my surgeon yet, but I did go to the seminar and one support group. But all the post op's at the group were bypass, and I am going to do the band. So frustrating to know there is help out there but you have to jump thru so many hoops in order to get it :(

    Psych Eval

Has anyone not passed their psych eval. I am not sure why I am so nervous about this. What specifically are they looking for? I mean, I know it's going to be a huge lifestyle adjustment. Not sure what they are looking for. :wink2:

I agree, however take into mind that when they send the authorization in they will use your current weight, not what you have lost during the 6 mos phase. I was feeling like you the first couple of days, but my frame of mind is a little different. I think by doing the 6 mos the insurance company wants to make sure that you are capable of sticking to a plan since you have to follow such a strict diet after surgery. They probably don't want to pay for a surgery that may be sabotaged a few months later by not eating right. As long as your doc states it's medically necessary, it most likely will be approved. Good Luck with everything. and if it helps. my way of thinking now, is that 6 months is going to pass anyways, why not try to live it more healthy. Think about how much better the recovery will be by losing a little weight before the big day. Hang in there.

    Starting out

Yes, I too was told that my insurance company requires a Dr. Supervised weight loss program before they can even submit the authorization for surgery. It's very frustrating, I agree. I have been through my orientation meeting, my first support group, and I will begin my psych evaluation soon. My "meet with the Dr." and my appt with the dietician isn't until the end of April.

    6 Month Diet

Well, I had my first consult. My IPA is requiring me to diet for 6 mos. I am feeling very discouraged. about 7-8 mos ago, my endocrinologist had me see a nutritionist and a dietitian. I did both, and also followed a low carb diet, but there wasn't really a follow up to that. and of course I didn't stick with it. does anyone know if I can use that couple of months towards my 6? or will i have to start from scratch. and If I lose weight on a supervised diet (i know i will) won't that bring my BMI down (currently have a BMI of 38.5) but I have diabetes/sleep apnea/high blood pressure/and fatty liver :crying: any words of encouragement would be appreciated. Thanks

I had a bit of a melt down last night.

I hope you are feeling better at this point. I don't know if this helps, but the majority of people that go under a general anesthesia face some amount of post surgical depression. Maybe this is what you are experiencing. Once you start seeing the weight loss maybe your outlook will change. I am only trying to be supportive. I have not yet been banded, but planning on it as soon as it's authorized by my insurance. Hang in there.

I have my first appointment with my surgeon tomorrow. My consult was approved already by my insurance. I am hoping that is a positive sign that the actual surgery will be authorized soon. does anyone have any experience with Blue Cross of California HMO?

Does anyone out there have any experience with Blue Cross of California HMO? My BMI is 38-39 but I am type II diabetic, have severe sleep apnea, high blood pressure, and fatty liver syndrome. I have read so many blogs where people say they have had to diet 6mos before they can even see a bariatric surgeon. My consult was approved already, does this mean I may be closer than 6 mos to surgery?
