    No insurance route

oh no, i meant ankle weights for the weigh in... rather than actually gain the weight Hi there! I was sleeved via insurance here in California on 12/09/16. Stay should have been one night in hospital but I ended up with a complication of a twisted stomach! I was there for 6 nights and had 2 more surgeries! Now luckily my insurance paid 100% of everything but think about this happening in Mexico! Make sure to ask what that would look like for you if you did have a complication! There was no way to know that I would be the 1% with this type of complication so you just never know! Good luck!!Sleeved 12/09/16 SW 273 CW 223 Sent from my SM-N920P using the BariatricPal App
  3. That is what my bariatric nurse says to do and keep taking it after surgery too! Sent from my SM-N920P using the BariatricPal App
  4. One thing about soda....diet or otherwise...that I just learned from the Registered Dietician in our support group last week...the carbonation stretches your sleeve or pouch! Carbonation expands when it gets warm so once in your stomach it heats up and expands and stretches your sleeve! That is truly why any carbonated drinks are a no no after surgery! Not the sugar but goodness knows we do not want to stretch out our stomachs after all that hard work!!! Good luck to all of us! =) Sent from my SM-N920P using the BariatricPal App

    What to eat, week 5

Week 5 I tolerated one small piece of a homemade quesadilla!! Delicious! Dietician approved and I made it and enjoyed every moment of that small piece lol we can not eat much at 5 weeks out but certainly do get bored with the options!!! I hope I never see broth or soup again! lol Sent from my SM-N920P using the BariatricPal App

  7. Hi all! I went to my 6 week post op bariatric food class and support group last night and wanted to share what I learned about! There is a low fat, low sugar, low calorie, HIGH Protein ice cream for sale now called Halo Top! And I bought some last night and OMG is it delicious (I can only manage 2 tsp at a time right now mind you!). But it is recommended by my bariatric nurse to add calories and protein to your diet plus something you will sing about! It comes in 18 flavors....see if they sell it in your neck of the woods at www.halotop.com! Sent from my SM-N920P using the BariatricPal App

    Getting the VSG :)

Hi there! Good for you for wanting to take yourself on this life changing journey! What I heard about the stomach wall being too thick is that then they have to do an actual incision and go in to do the surgery and can not do it via laparoscopic surgery. Did your surgeon offer you any other options if your stomach wall is too thick? They can do testing to make sure this surgery is doable for you!! I wish you all the best!!!! Brandee

  12. It's almost ALL about self-control at where you and I are post-operatively! You're not meeting your protein goals, which is devastating to weight loss and feeling satiated by your food. I've not done the best job during the holidays, and I'm in a 3 week long stall right now. I know it's because I'm not keeping my carbs down and my protein up, and I'm not tracking every bite I put into my mouth. You should be losing more/more consistently than you are, maybe a re-start with Protein shakes and then advancing yourself through the different stages to reset your diet would be helpful. And you don't mention using any Protein powder...I still have to use it to get my protein grams high enough. On a normal day, I use GENEPRO unflavored in my morning coffee, so I start off with 20-30 grams of protein in a 12 ounce mug of coffee, with monkfruit sweetener and cream. Some days I have a container of plain yogurt with a little low-carb granola mid-morning, or cottage cheese with a tablespoon of pureed fruit stirred in. Lunch, I eat a cheese stick and a couple of slices of deli turkey. I have a handful of almonds or half an apple with Peanut Butter for an afternoon snack, then 3-4 ounces of my family's dinner protein and around 1/4 cup of vegetables. And I almost always have a sugar-free popsicle before dinner. That typical day gets me about 850 cals, 95 grams protein and 50 grams of carbs, with only 21 of them being sugars. I lose when I'm eating like that...80 lbs since the end of June. You've got the tool in place, you just need to commit to using it correctly, find ways to distract yourself when you're hungry (exercise, clean house, work, garden...whatever works) and get back on track. There's literally no reason for you to NOT be successful! Go get it, you CAN do this!! Does the genpro change the consistency of your coffee at all? I can not wait until I have a taste for coffee again lol but think that is a great idea to meet protein goals! Just can not do a consistency change as I won't enjoy it! When Does Hunger Kick In?

Have you spoken to your doctor? I think you should go straight to your surgeon with these concerns then as Protein shakes will be part of our lives forever and we will never really be off them! Sent from my SM-N920P using the BariatricPal App

    Extend post op liquid diet

Yes I did because I was not tolerating the next stage very well!! So doc told me to go back to the prior stage for another week and then try again! That worked for me! Sent from my SM-N920P using the BariatricPal App
  16. Totally normal!! I also stayed on clear liquids for a week until I could tolerate more. And even then a 6 oz yogurt would take 4 to 5 hours to eat!!! Just keep getting all your liquids in so you do not dehydrate yourself and every day try something new...you will get there promise! Sent from my SM-N920P using the BariatricPal App

    When Does Hunger Kick In?

My surgeon told me on Friday sine I am just 4 weeks out that he expects us to be drinking our Protein mostly for the first 2 months because I am feeling like you! Make sure you meet your protein goal with your shakes and you will get there!!! Everyone heals and progresses at a different pace! Good luck to you!! Sent from my SM-N920P using the BariatricPal App

    Loyola program/ Newbie Questions

Hi there!!! So excited for you! Dumping happens with the bypass more often and not as much with the sleeve. Same for hair loss....the bypass helps you lose weight by shrinking your stomach and making it so you do not absorb all the calories you take in...that can cause malnutrition if you are not careful. With these surgeries you need to take all the required Vitamins to assist your body with nutrition and they can run upwards of $75 per month! But they are very very important! I took 3 weeks off work and truly needed one more week. You feel very tired for a few weeks so if you can take 4 to 6 weeks off and recover well! You will be glad you did so you can rest and spend time retraining yourself how to eat! I had my first appointment May 25, 2016 and had my surgery Dec 9, 2016. A good surgeon will make you wait all that time to work with you and make sure your body AND mind are ready!!! Exercise now at least 5 times per week....you will recover much faster and the surgery will be so much easier on you! I wish you all the best!!! Keep us posted! How many calories...

I was sleeved 12/09/16 and honestly this is the first week I actually felt a little hungry and food started to taste normal again. Prior to this week I had zero desire for food and I could not get enough in. I finally got through that and you will too. Have you found a Protein shake you like? When I could not eat I would sip a shake all day long to get at least 3 in for the day! Good luck and promise that feeling will not last forever! Sent from my SM-N920P using the BariatricPal App

    Trouble getting to sleep

Yes I did!! I never had anxiety either until after I was sleeved on Dec 9, 2016. I took an rx from the doctor for one week that helped me relax and sleep and then after a week my body went back to a natural sleep rhythm!! Talk to your doc and good luck!! The Journey has officially begun!

You can do this!!! I have heard awful things about the band...so sorry you had to experience that! My surgeon does not even do the band anymore...he said you don't lose the weight like the bypass or sleeve! I hope all goes well and you just keep focused to shed those 20 lbs and get scheduled for your life changing surgery!!! Sent from my SM-N920P using the BariatricPal App
