  1. I was having the same challenge, decided to shop at thrift stores as I do not plan on spending a lot of money for clothes that will only fir for a couple weeks. Once I get within 5-10 lbs of my target, then I will be more open to spending for long term.

That's great! There will be tough days ahead, and at times you will feel discouraged, but remember...this is a lifestyle change for the better! It didn't take us overnight to gain the weight, and it will take a lot of patience to lose it, and a strong will commitment and support to keep it off; but we are here to help support along your journey! Have you started using any apps for tracking? Myfitnesspal is a great app if you are looking for something. Also, Fitbit is another great little tool to help keep you moving too.

    POST SURGERY - FEBRUARY SLEEVERS

The stall is normal, I had a stall that lasted about the same time, finally started moving again on Friday. My nut had me increase my intake as I was not getting enough macros in as I increased my activity. If you are logging your meals and macros, have them check to make sure your, you may need to adjust them intake. Myfitnesspal is a great app that can track. Make sure to set your goal %'s if you use the app. It will really help keep you in the right zones.

    POST SURGERY - FEBRUARY SLEEVERS

Justin, (or anyone else) do you use a Fitbit? If so, friend me at vban@charter.net to join our group. Several sleevers all doing daily, weekly and weekend walking challenges. Great way to keep each other motivated and moving.
  6. Good luck to all of you! Your going to do great! It is normal to be nervous before hand, even to the moment they cart you up. But they will likely give you something to relax before they start. Remember to walk as soon as your able afterwards, it really helps to get the gas out and start to heal. You've got this! Looking forward to seeing you on the losers side! Thoughts and prayers are will everyone.

Congratulation on your decision Vivian, what a great reason too to take the steps to a healthy lifestyle (your kid (s))! Depending on your insurance, it could be anywhere from 3-6months of pre work. There is the nutritionist, psych, possibly exercise coach. There will also be some testing (swallow, lungs and regular blood work.). Use the time to really prepare for the lifestyle change. Begin to start changing your habits now to better support you once surgery has passed. Start with these small changes in everything (being more active, starting to find healthy food choices, getting in more protein every day...) but DON'T TRY TO DO IT ALL AT ONCE. You may get frustrated and discouraged. Take things slow, get used to the changes and it will be a much easier change. I had about 8 months from the initial decision to my surgery and was given similar advise. Probably the best I had and glad I did it. The time will fly by, before you know it, we'll be welcoming you to the losers bench! Good luck on your journey, looking forward to hearing about your progress!

What do your macros look like?

    Frustrated...no loss in 10 days

Great, so here's how to do it. Go to the goals tab, under nutrition goals, select calories and macronutrients goals. Then input your target daily calories and %of carbs, protein and fat. I have mine set as follows: calories-800, carbs-20%, protein-50%, fat-30%. Some important things to keep in mind: 1. The fats are all, both good and bad (butter is bad but almonds or salmon is good fats) 2. The app subtracts your calories burned from exercise, so it can be a bit confusing at first when monitoring the macros throughout the day. The best way to verify you are in the zone is, at the bottom of the page where you log your meals, select nutrition. This will show you your % of actual compared to your goal. Just keep within these targets and you will be fine. I am in a group of other sleevers, if you want to add me to your friends list, my user name is sleevinpops. A lot of us also use Fitbit for activity tracker and step challenges, if you use Fitbit, you can friend me there as well, email is vban@charter.net. All the best!

Hi steph, hope your doing well since surgery. The stall is normal, I had a stall that lasted about the same time, finally started moving again on Friday. Milk of magnesia, miralax or dulcolax. Depending on how long it's been. I went about 5 days without bm, M.O.M. And Miralax did nothing, dulcolax got me moving then tale Miralax every other day since with a cup of tea each morning. No issues since. Good luck, I know it's rough but you'll get through it.

    Why am I hungry?

What kind of protein are you taking?
  15. sleevinpops

    Why am I hungry?

Focus on the % of nutrients and not necessarily the number. Remember, not all carbs are bad, nuts, greens etc. are good and your body still needs the fuel to burn. As you move out further from surgery, you will naturally increase the calories in your diet, this means an increase in the proteins, fats and carbs. As you been calories throughout the day you will offset the same not just in calories but in nutrients too. My nut set my targets to protein-50%, carbs-20%, fats(good fats) 30%. Good fats are things like avocados, nuts, fish etc. I have been losing at a steady healthy pace following this and it is MUCH easier to track than the specific numbers and having to determine the gaps. Myfitnesspal has a great program for this. Good luck.

    Working Out Post-Op

I was sleeved 2/9 and still waiting for clearance for weights (more than a gallon of milk) as there is apparently risk of causing hernias in the stomach muscle area. Expected to be cleared on 3/28. Check with your doc tho.

    POST SURGERY - FEBRUARY SLEEVERS

Hi fellow February sleevers! I'm 6weeks out and feeling great! I weighed in this morning at 200 even, down 33 pounds since surgery! Eating is going ok, can keep foods down, but still need to focus on slowing down. Doing a ton of walking, about 10,000-15,000 steps per day, doing daily Fitbit challenges with other Bari patients I met here. Looking forward to being cleared to resume regular exercising around the 28th.

    6 days til clear fluids

Walmart has bone broth, both beef and chicken. Bone broth has 7-9 g of protein. Also, try Trimino protein water. Has 7 g of protein, comes in multiple flavors too. Can get Trimino on Amazon or BJ's wholesale

Any Fitbit users out there looking to join challenges? Friend me in Fitbit at vban@charter.net, or send me yours and I'll send invite.
  21. Don't worry, your body has just not adjusted yet. Keep up the Protein and Water, as well as the excercice, it will come off. Try different white Proteins as well, fish, chicken etc. Don't focus on the scale, and remember everyone's body is different so will have different results. Although you may not see the number drop, you also might be adding muscle as well to balance out the fat loss. For the past week, I haven't lost anything, I actually gained a couple pounds, yet I dropped another pant size during this time. All the walking is increasing my muscle apparently. Keep positive. It will start soon I'm sure.
