Protein recommendations!
TheRevisionedVagabond posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've just hit 5 weeks post op & cant seem to shake this stall for crap! Its been ongoing for about 2 weeks now & it's frustrating but I KNOW I'm not getting in the recommended Protein. Please suggest some protein brands & flavours you use to help get your goal in! I've tried the Syntrax nectar but only Fuzzy Navel & Carribean Cooler. Wasn't a fan of the former, but the latter is really good! I'm not looking for something with a weird after taste or anything like that. Bonus points if I can put it in Water (to make a protein rich "crystal light") or even if it's *truly* unflavoured. (Heard about GENEPRO but don't know much about them) Lay them on me! I'm in Colorado. That's what I keep telling myself Everyone is saying "your body is in shock. Give it time to catch up" but these scales can catch me outside!! Lol! In all seriousness, I keep telling myself to give it time & let it heal, but I am just so frustrated with the progress I've made & the slacking I've done. I feel like I'm healed because I can drink Water normally now (not plain water obviously) & I can eat bigger portions. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -

Thank you so so much! I'm trying so friggin hard to not dwell & brought it up to my husband to try and help get it off my chest but I'm just beyond upset about it! I can't shake it for some reason. I have an appointment next week with them, so I'll definitely be bringing it up then!! The support groups are only once a month and I've put it several requests to join other local groups with no success. [emoji20] I find that they do help, but they're so infrequent that it makes it easy for me to lose sight of things. Finding healthy alternative solutions sounds like a good idea. I'm trying to figure out a meal plan period but it's so hard to do high protein, low carb, low fat. [emoji849] Ugh! Man! I don't know what happened after the surgery! I was so prepared and then once it was said & done, it was like I didn't know anything! I need to refocus. I totally do! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -

So I'm 4 weeks post op & I have been eating soft foods just fine for about a week. However, I think I may have hit a stall? My weight has been fluctuating between 5lbs since about the start of week 3. It'll go up 5lbs, then back down. But for the last few days, it's been fluctuating just a few ounces. Can someone tell me if I've hit a stall? I'm not sure if a stall means your weight just stays the same, or if you're not losing anymore past a certain point. I'm quite frustrated but I'm trying not to be because #1 I've just started eating soft foods. #2, it's still early & #3 I should just stay off the scale. Though, inches wise, I'm not losing either. It's just frustrating because I'm working out, eating a sufficient amount of calories, and the only thing I can think of is Protein. Maybe I'm not getting in enough (I don't get in the recommended 60 daily ) I guess my ultimate question is: Is this normal to stall this early on?! When did you stall?! How did you break it? @mylighthouse you were so so helpful!! Thank you!! I'm gonna try and choke down that protein drink! Hahaha!! I know it's important but I just can't stomach it. I was hoping I could get it from my food sources alone but just like you said, I don't think I'm eating all 60 grams. [emoji20] I'm gonna try & up my fluids to the 64+ & get that protein shake down whether I like it or not. Hahaha! Thank you! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
Need some water ideas!
TheRevisionedVagabond posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Everything is either too sweet (crystal light, Powerade, propel, Gatorade, etc) or too sour! (Infusing with fruits) so I have been drinking nothing but watered down apple juice! Though, I'm not okay with the sugar content. I tried drinking normal Water, but it tastes disgusting. Either like dirt, or plastic, or metallic. It's very disheartening because I used to down a little over a gallon a day! What are some ways you get your fluids in? I've tried syntax nectar and other Proteins that you can put in water, but it's too sweet. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -

@@FindingCarrie I can't believe I didn't even think of that! Oh my god. Haha! I thought of watering down my friggin apple juice because it's too sweet but not the crystal light. I love you. Lol! I tried the isopure & I can't stomach it at all. I used to love them!! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -

How will I know I'm advancing too quickly?
TheRevisionedVagabond replied to TheRevisionedVagabond's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes!!! My jaw sometimes hurts with all the chewing I'm doing hahaha!! How will you know something doesn't sit well? Like, nausea or something? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App For me it's pain in my chest, that's when I know something doesn't agree with me. I've had it happen when I tried one of my husband's french fries (seriously bad idea). Ugh!! I've been wanting French fries so bad lately! And wings! Haha! I even told my husband I want to try and sip from a straw! But I'm afraid of the pain. Hahaha! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
How will I know I'm advancing too quickly?
TheRevisionedVagabond posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm almost 4 weeks out & my diet plan is a bit more loose in comparison to what I see others follow. My nutritionist allows eat diet plan to last anywhere from 7-14 days before advancing which leaves me to advance as tolerated. I just started introducing soft foods in my diet, but I can't help but ask, how will I know I'm advancing too quickly? I don't experience pain, and get this, I also don't ever feel full!! I eat a few bites, then I'm no longer interested in the food! I've never felt full, only no longer interested after a few bites, and I also don't feel any pain with the soft food. Is there a sure way of knowing I'm advancing too quickly? Is there a sure fire way of knowing I'm full? Thanks everyone!! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
Vsg single incision?
TheRevisionedVagabond replied to vsgbeauty13's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had a single incision on 01/09/17 through my bellybutton as well! Though, I didn't experience any pain whatsoever on or around my incision. Here's a picture of what my incision looked like post surgery. You can barely tell, lol. So I'm not surprised I didn't feel any pain. That skinny black line at the bottoms of my bellybutton, is the incision. Oh! & I didn't experience scanning! But everyone is different. I only experienced flaking glue that fell off on its own. Really?! oh my goodness no! Hahaha! That's so bad!!! I have felt the nausea before. I tried a steamed dumpling and I think it might've been high in fat because it was definitely soft enough and I took a small enough bite. But I felt like puking afterwards. Maybe my sleeve was like "naw girl! Not today!!" Haha! Haven't tried any since Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -

Yes!!! My jaw sometimes hurts with all the chewing I'm doing hahaha!! How will you know something doesn't sit well? Like, nausea or something? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App The best way I can describe it is that it feels very heavy in my stomach, but I don't feel nauseous. Everyone is different, though. When in doubt, ask your surgeon; after all, you paid him/her a lot of money to answer your questions! Ah, very very true!! Thank you for the help! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -

TheRevisionedVagabond replied to TheRevisionedVagabond's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ohhh I see. Now that makes sense! See, I usually stop eating once I start hiccuping or if I feel I'm no longer interested in the meal. Usually at that point, I'm quite satisfied. Man! That was so helpful! Thank you for sharing!! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
So I'm transitioning from puréed to soft foods currently and everything I look up, has a TON of fat or carbs! (One recipe had 101.9g Carbs & 52g fat! VSG portion!) Please shoot your favourite recipes (can be simple or complex), that are either puree friendly or soft food friendly! Going grocery shopping tomorrow & am looking for something to make for the week. Thanks so much in advance. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Could I be consuming too low calories?
TheRevisionedVagabond posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So I'm on the final days of my 2 week pre-op diet (THANK THE HEAVENS! ????) & I'm concerned I'm not consuming enough calories? I'm eating around 600 a day if I eat a few Snacks. Is that too small of an amount? I feel fine on that amount. Not hungry anymore or anything. But I fear it'll affect my weight loss post surgery. Follow my -
Advancing your diet- on your own
TheRevisionedVagabond posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
So I'm a week post op and I've been on a full liquid diet since I discharged from the hospital. I've had Soups and curries with no problem obviously because they're liquid. Haha! But has anyone actually tried advancing your diet by yourself? Like, trying some soft foods to see if you can actually eat it. DISCLAIMER: I already know some people on here are going to attempt to jump down my throat or be like "LISTEN TO YOUR SURGEON! DONT DO IT!" But I'm asking out of SHEER CURIOSITY. Lol. I'm not trying to advance my diet without my surgeons content. I'm asking because I'm actually curious if anyone has done it, their experience, etc. I also want to know what happened when you did. Even if it was by accident. Follow my -
Advancing your diet- on your own
TheRevisionedVagabond replied to TheRevisionedVagabond's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
YES!! This is exactly what I'm going through!! I feel like I'm ready to progress into soft foods myself. I have less than a week left to go on the liquid diet so I didn't bother asking to be allowed to start the process of introducing soft foods. But yes. I am experiencing thee exact same thing. I wouldn't dare risk advancing without asking lol. I was scared to try any "free foods" on my pre op diet!! (We had a list of free foods to choose from. But I was scared of over indulging on them so I didn't eat them lol) I think you're the second person that has experienced that too!! Thank you so much for sharing!! Follow my -
Advancing your diet- on your own
TheRevisionedVagabond replied to TheRevisionedVagabond's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
But your words here define the real issue. This isn't a diet. It is a prescription given by the doctor that provides your body nourishment at the same time that it gives your body time to heal from surgery. It is dangerous to ask people to comment on violating that prescription. Making choices (good, not so good, or otherwise) pre-op is one thing; post-op is something completely different (that could be deadly). Okay, so you came in my thread continuing the trend of not answering the question. To me, it is a diet. It's a way of eating for a certain period of time. My surgeon, nurses, everyone calls it that. Not orders. There is absolutely nothing wrong with asking people about their experience with not following the diet plan. I know what the risks are. They kind of tell you that before you head in for the surgery. We all know the risks. However, that does not mean everyone follows them. Plenty of people who have had the surgery, knew the risks of not following the pre-op diet. Did that stop them from cheating? Absolutely not. Even though one of those risks was possibly death or not getting the surgery at all, temptation made itself known, and they still cheated. Now is it dangerous to ask them how their surgery went even though they cheated? Absolutely not. You're simply asking about their experience. The decisions you make both pre & post op will determine the rate and level of success with the surgery. A decision from both sides of the surgery can also mean death, not just post op. So if you have anything pertaining to the question at hand such as an experience of your own, I'd love to hear! But don't come on here trying to diagnose issues from a simple question. Follow my It's a PRESCRIPTION diet. A POST SURGERY diet. Trying to advance stages too soon after your stomach has been sawed in half and sewn back together is like trying to run on a broken leg. Why can't people understand this? I can't figure out if it's stupidity or sheer ignorance. And now you're getting mad for no reason?! I have not said once that I'm advancing my diet too soon. If you'd read the thread, you'd see where I've said multiple times that I'm looking for experiences for others. Drinking two shakes a day and eating a healthy, surgery friendly meal is not a PRESCRIPTION. It's a DIET. A DIET FOR BEFORE AND AFTER SURGERY. You can probably find your answer to your final question elsewhere because I think we all have the same understanding that it's a diet meant for surgery to induce weight loss and depending on whether or not you're pre or post will determine the rest. Follow my I'm almost 3 years post op. I'm not on a diet. It's a lifestyle change. That's how I've kept my weight off. It doesn't end when you've lost the weight. That's why it's not a "diet". Maybe not for you. But to me, the liquid, soft, and puréed are all diets. I don't plan on eating like that for the rest of my life which is why it's not a lifestyle change. Mentally during that time? Sure thing! I'll change my mindset during those stages. But once I start introducing actual food, that's when it's no longer considered a diet for me, but lifestyle change. I am eating full foods for the rest of my life. Wouldn't make much sense to call it a diet at that point. Follow my -
