  1. In the hospital, I just walked. So. Much. I was finally able to burp the next day, but didn't pass gas until day 3 after I was home already. The pushing hurt my incisions so if it wasn't for that I probably would have earlier haha
  2. DS: 12/14/16 SW: 260 CW: 235 Lost 10 pounds on the pre-op diet too. I started that week out at 270. I'm climbing out of the 3-4 week stall.

    Alcohol

I was told to wait at least 6 months, but the surgeon recommends waiting until you get to your goal weight

    Too few calories=stall?

I've read that the three week stall has to do with glycogen, and to just focus on increasing protein and water
  5. I'm still cutting caffeine a bit, but at 4 weeks out, I've started introducing it. My go to drink is a half-caf grande Starbucks double shot on ice with heavy cream and sugar free vanilla. It gives me the SUPER strong coffee flavor I'm looking for without all of the caffeine.
  6. I had a full DS and it took two hours. I've lost almost forty pounds in a month, and I'm in my soft food phase able to eat pretty well. I chose the DS because of the long term (10 year) stats, and the ability to eat more "normal" sized portions farther out from surgery. I'm still in college, and I wanted to be sure (or as sure as one can be) that I would be able to keep the weight off. It seemed to be the most effective tool for me. I know people say it's "extreme" but the long term results were important to me.

    Miserable

It gets better! I was pretty miserable for the first two weeks, but at week four I feel surprisingly normal.

    Worried sick;

On full liquids, you should only be having strained cream soups and broths. Some docs allow sugar free pudding, fudge pops and cottage cheese. Mine did. I still mainly drank shakes.
  9. Where can you buy it? I'm in NC and haven't found it in any grocery store near me.
  10. I chose the DS. It's a sleeve, with an added malabsorption component. It's proven to be the most heavy duty and has the highest success rate over time. I chose it because I'm only 20, and I only want to have surgery once. The sleeve helps with portions and the malabsorption helps keep the weight off. The surgeon you choose should offer a seminar on the different types. I think that's pretty common, and that's what mine did.

    The three week stall

@@ShelliW I'm hoping so too! I've also heard that a lower starting weight can make the weight come off more slowly. My Bmi was barely over 40, and I was 260 on the day of surgery. We're sitting at the same weight right now lol

    The three week stall

@@Postop I try to only weigh once a week, but staying away from the scale might be best. I think I'm just terrified that the weight won't come off.

    The three week stall

    Thanks! That's so encouraging

    Why sleeve with DS?

No problem! I opted for the DS because if I was going to pay for surgery, I only wanted to do it once haha

Can I see a menu please?

I usually do a premier Protein shake for Breakfast, some deli meat (shaved) or shrimp or a baked chicken thigh, and for dinner I will either do more shrimp, or shredded chicken breast with some sauce and a little bit of riced cauliflower. I try to vary my meals, and when I eat out (I'm in college so that's decently often) I split meals into two or three. In between meals I snack on mozzarella cheese pearls (5g of protein per oz) and sip on Syntrax nectar. (23 G protein.) the nectar is good because it counts for my Clear liquids as well.
  16. I was off pain meds during the day after I left the hospital. I still took the meds to sleep. The pain gets better, but the incision soreness can last awhile. My big incisions still gets sore if I bend too much, and I'm a month out. It's more annoying than it is painful haha

    What Was The Final Straw

When metformin made me so sick I couldn't keep my breakfast down.

    Why sleeve with DS?

With the DS there are fewer complications with dumping than with the RNY. I honestly haven't had a single issue at a month out. At least not anything out of the ordinary. I've seen people get the sleeve and gain a lot of their weight back, and that terrified me. I'm only 20, and I wanted something that would work long term.

    Why sleeve with DS?

Here is a link to a video of the operation (animation) http://www.rexbariatrics.com/about-weight-loss-surgery/weight-loss-surgery/bilio-pancreatic-diversion-with-duodenal-switch/ I had a DS. I'm so incredibly happy I did. The long term success rate is so high, and that seemed much more worth it to me.

Does everyone have to do endoscopy

I had to do one, and it was super easy. They found a hiatal hernia so I'm glad they did it
  21. Kaylamh

    How long

Most of my vitamins are chewables :/ I know I can switch to a pill form of calcium at 3 months. So maybe that long?
  22. Kaylamh

    Bowel movement problem

It's totally normal. I didn't go for about 4 days after surgery, and then I would alternate between constipation and diarrhea. I still yoyo back and forth. Your body is just getting used to the changes.

    Head Hunger!

@@Postop I eat that often too. It's good to know I'm not the only one!

    Head Hunger!

I had no idea that I could have to do with the acid. I really need to get better about taking my Prilosec. I feel like that would definitely help.

    9 Days to Fiance's VSG

Don't be worried too much about feeding them post op. During my full liquid phase I drank shakes and ate yogurt. In my puréed stage I've been a huge fan of cottage cheese (with Splenda, vanilla and a dash of cinnamon), chicken salad, scrambled eggs and yogurt. It's not a ton of stuff that you have to cook. The soft foods phase is where it gets tricky, but it's kind of like a previous poster said. Most of it is normal stuff that anyone will eat, so just split portions of protein and make sure they're moist and soft. (Meatloaf, dark meat poultry, shrimp etc)
