Anyone Used the Weight Loss Surgery Doctors at NYU??
lapbandbarb replied to NeenBand's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I was banded by George Fielding on 7/7/08 and he is great! Being banded was the best thing I ever did for myself! -
Hi, Gee, I have not posted in a while and I consider myself one of the original July Butterflies. I have been so busy but I am still here! I am doing well with my weight loss. It took a while but I think I am at good restriction. I've had three fills and a slight unfill. It is no fun to be too full and not be able to get anything through the band! If you feel restriction, try not to get another fill until you evaluate whether it is head hunger or stress hunger. I have to pay really close attention to this because there are times when I feel hungry and know that it is just a result of my feelings or what is going on in my life. I now know how much food I can handle and at what times during the day my band is less tight. What a difference from Banster hell! Glad to hear that everyone is doing so well and glad to be back in the chat!

I was banded by George Fielding on 7/7/08 and he did not require optifast. I drank mostly slimfast shakes blended with Protein powder. I was so bloated that I lost 23lbs during those two weeks! I don't know about the smoking issue, but Dr Fielding is not really strict about too many things. The other Drs may be different. Who is your Dr? Do you live in NYC? I am in Westchester. I am at good restriction and losing well after 3 fills and 1 unfill(it is no fun to be too full) I will be happy to chat with you. Sometimes it is hard to get answers from the office because they are so busy. There are several threads on this site about that. If you do a search, you can read alot of opinions about NYU. To me, Dr Fielding's expertise outweighted (PUN) any negatives. Do you have a date yet? GOOD LUCK!!!

 FUNNY!!! I feel the same way. I now think drstan is for real. Just really illiterate or maybe doesn't write english well? They seem to be doing well now though, so that is good. This tread has gone on and on and on-in all directions.

There is no problem with telling us the name of the book out on the forum. I have read a lot of other threads that named names of books. So what is it? It sounds interesting! I'm glad you are at peace with losing your band and I hope everyone else who has suffered reaches that place!

I threw Up!! *sigh*

Hi Barbie and Barbie- from yet another Barbie! pineapple juice works really well for these episodes, also. With each episode we go through a learning experience about what we can and cannot eat! -
Tight in the mornings, starving at night?

bump- good one to remember! -
drinking during the night with a tight fill
lapbandbarb replied to cQQlgirl's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I have had some similar(although not as horrible) experiences at night when I eat or drink less than two hours before I go to sleep since I had my last fill and have good restriction. Your story is really a wake up call to me and I thank you for telling me about it. This could easily happen to me. I bought a pill grinder at CVS- the most helpful item I own now! I can't stomach the liquid meds-I usually PB with them. Glad you are feeling better. If you can eat, I would not give up the restriction, just watch your intake as it gets close to the time you lay down. -
You explain those so well and I know them only too well. Keeps us on our toes. Those episodes are a learning experience- every painful time! Joannemarie- Hi! You are right! We cannot get away with anything. Enjoy those last pain free fries. My knee shots went ok today. No relief...yet!(hopeful) Good Luck! Sorry your insurance company is such a pain.

You have no idea how lucky you are that you don't have problems with reflux! I had my third fill Sunday. My Dr wants me on liquids the day of the fill and the next day. Then mushies for a day after that. I have had a really hard time this week with slimming and was really tempted to get a little unfill. Then today I felt better so decided to ride it out. I have a hard time day two of my liquids after my fill so I know exactly what you mean. A week seems like a long time. I think I would follow the Dr who did your surgery's instructions. Maybe call the office and ask why they suggested a week this time.

Nauseas! A sign of something bad?
lapbandbarb replied to lapbandbarb's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Loper- Thanks for your reply. It does help. That is what I am thinking, that the protein is doing it. I feel better today and can feel that my band has opened up a bit. I decided not to rush to the Dr. I know I won't lose weight if I get an unfill and I am not miserable anymore. I do tend to drink my protein fast and I need to slow down. My Dr said I could take children's liquid anti-nausea med if I need it. -
I need advice! I was doing pretty well with my band and then on Sunday I went for a fill. I probably did not need it but I wanted more restriction. Greedy, me! Now I am miserable! I think I am too full because I am sliming often. I am having trouble keeping things down depending on the time of day. But worse than that is I am so nauseaus constantly. It comes in waves. I have noticed that it is especially bad after I have a protein shake which never affected me that way before and I have had a good diet with protein and low carbs going up until now. UGH! Does anyone know what being so nauseaus could be a sign of. I feel so ill. I am not in any pain. I am going to get a unfill tomorrow.

a look back at losing my band, please read!

Here is the post that Janine explained why she lost her band. I am more worried than ever that I will lose my band. I went for a fill on Sunday and I am too tight for sure. I can hardly hold anything down depending on the time of day and I have been having waves of nausea constantly. Is that a sign of something worse than being too full? I am not in any pain. Just nausaus and slimming alot. Help! Can someone tell me if I should be worried that it is more than just needing a bit taken out. I am going tomorrow to get a slight unfill. -
I was just wondering if anyone drinks Smartwater. It is supposed to have electrolytes. I'm not sure but I think it has been making me feel nauseous. Anyone have any experience with Smartwater or any other Vitamin or electrolyte water?

How much have you lost July Butterfllies??
lapbandbarb replied to lotzasunshine's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
PENTURN- I would talk to my Dr if I was feeling the frustration you are. That is what he is there for and there is no reason why you should be feeling this way. That said, you are doing better than if you didn't have the band and things will get better! I was banded 7/7/08 and got my third fill yesterday. I think I am at my sweet spot. I have not been hungry today with just liquids. JULY BUTTERFLIES lets all congradulate ourselves! -
Mommy Dearest, thanks for making sure I never feel happy!
lapbandbarb replied to Boo Boo Kitty's topic in Rants & Raves
I understand how you feel. I always felt like I was judged by my mother. I had so many times of dealing with issues just like you seem to have. Your mother keeps telling you how much she loves you and is proud of you. That is special. My mother, although I knew she loved me very much, would have never told me with so much emotion as your mother does in the letter. My mother passed away pretty suddenly in January and I miss her every single day. I had a difficult relationship with her but I want her so much and I will never have her again. You have no idea how hard that is. Please- appreciate her. You only have one mom and she will not be with you forever. It is so hard to take back the things that you wish you could. Appreciate her now amd don't worry so much about what she says-she is here and that is what really matters. -

:thumbup:I must also thank you for your story. I can really relate. I am just at that point that you talked about- feeling lighter and better. I know the band is my savior and I need to appreciate it. Sometimes it is hard to remember and listen to it and I end up bping and sliming. I am scared that I will lose my band. What did you lift and how heavy was it that you caused that much damage? Did you pb and slime alot and that hurt you too? I wish you the best of luck with your new band! You are doing a great thing getting re-banded and look on the bright side- you did not gain all your weight back! I'll be looking for further news about how you are doing. -
OK, I don't know about you guys, but I think it is time to put this thread to sleep! I don't know if anyone else noticed, but the originator of it has not posted here in a while and last one said they had some fill removed, talked to Dr Fielding and are doing better.(well, actually it was the post before their last in which they were incredibly hostile) I have actually seen other posts by them and they say the same thing. They are doing better! I think that person gets what we are saying. I think they were angry at the time of their rant. How do you unsubscribe to this thread? I am tired of it and reading different people writing the same thing over and over! There are more interesting and helpful posts to read.

Leslie, Thanks for adjusting my numbers! Good luck tomorrow with your weigh in!
-
Yes, congradulations! I was going to wait untill the end since I could not figure out how to adjust the numbers. But, I am down to 223 and can someone please change my current weight to 223? thanks so much! Leslie- you'll get there! I lost because I knew I irritated my band on Sunday so I have been on liquids and soft proteins for the past two days. I am going back to solids today. Lets hope I don't gain any back! Have a great day, everyone and thanks!

rheumatoid/degnerative arthritis sufferers... did lap band help your pain?
lapbandbarb replied to Leighann's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You are very welcome. Do the shots help you? I am praying they will for me. Best of luck with everything and let me know what they say about your oral meds:smile2: -
You need to be kinder to yourself and appreciate how much you have lost. The first six weeks is for healing and I would not worry! You are doing great! We have all been through the bandster hell! Try to weigh yourself only once a week. This will ease your stress and you will see the results better. Good Luck with your fill! Talk to your Dr about how you feel. Maybe he will be a little aggressive with your fill.
