Autoimmune disorders and wls
Mandybb replied to Patticake74's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I have Lupus and the first surgeon I saw would not do the surgery because of it. The second surgeon was fine with it as long as I did not have to take NSAIDS daily. They also required a note from a rheumatologist stating I was a good candidate for surgery. I also have not had a flare in 7 years which helped my case. If your surgeon is uncomfortable with it, just keep searching until you find one that will help you. Good luck! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
My doctor told me cream soups are not part of the full liquid diet and I'm not supposed to have those for 2 weeks. I would be careful and just double check with your office that it's an approved item for full liquid phase. I was also told no tomato based products for 4-6 weeks. Everyone's office is different but you wouldn't want to mess something up. I'm a week out and can't tolerate shakes yet or a whole cup at a time. However, I'm up to 4oz at a time. I get an upper back ache when my tummy gets full that's the only sign I have that I'm bout to burst. My paper says 4oz every hour. Maybe start measuring in ounces rather than cups to help you figure out how much you should be getting. Good luck! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

HELP! Freaking out - need honest feedback
Mandybb replied to minervaxx6's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had surgery on Dec 29th. Did it hurt, yes. Were there moments of extreme discomfort from gas pain, absolutely. But all of this was completely manageable with pain medication! To say you are not going to feel anything is silly because you will be uncomfortable and in pain at times for the first 3-4 days. Then it's easy. I'm barely bruised now. I took 90g of Protein daily to recover and it's worked great. I was so scared and anxious before surgery and it's understandable you are worried. Hang in there, you will be fine. So I'm 6 days post op and I'm craving the weirdest things. I would kill for some tuna fish and avocados! Mashed together if possible. I also have been wanting cucumbers and pistachios. I thought I would be craving sweets and carbs but the food combinations coming up in my brain are unusual for me. I can't honestly say I've ever craved fish in my life but it's all I can think about most days. I thought maybe my Vitamins were low or something. Currently I'm getting 60 grams of Protein and all of my vitamins down. I'm still 29 oz short of meeting my 64 oz a day goal. Today I'm working on that. Anyone else have weird cravings? @@littlelamb3 I too have the raw veggie craving. I can't wait till I can enjoy a good salad. It's mainly spinach and cucumbers that sound the best right now. But I miss fresh strawberries and bananas as well. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Well I'm very glad I'm not alone. My appointment is next Tuesday to have my blood drawn so hopefully all that looks great. I think I'm doing fantastic which worries me. I thought I would be crabby and all with not eating but I'm trying to take everything in stride. @ up4challenge - Water is very difficult for me to get down. It feels like bricks. sugar free Powerade and Diet Snapple goes down so much easier. I never thought of doubling my Protein powder. I might try that in a couple weeks, thanks. Hi everyone, since I've been posting I thought I would introduce myself. I'm a 37 year old mom and wife. My stats HW: 269. I just weighed myself this morning and I'm at 248. My surgery is at 7:30 tomorrow morning! I have to be there at 5:30. I'm anxious and excited and experiencing so many unexpected emotions. I'm usually cool as a cucumber. My clear liquid diet is going. I'm so light headed that I'm forced to just plop my butt on the couch. I'm having terrible muscle cramps in my calves, but I'm drinking tons of Fluid. I can't keep my meds or Vitamins down so I'm thankful I only had 2 days of this nonsense. Hoping my SW is around 245. Anywho, thanks for reading and I will post my updates after surgery! Welcome and congrats! Honestly I didn't have any problems at all. Everything went very smoothly with very little effort on my part. My job was to follow my diet and lose before surgery. I know some had a more difficult time with insurance and all. I have United Healthcare and they took 7 days to approve me. They also paid 100% because I had already met my out of pocket expenses for the year, but if I would have waited until Jan 1st I would have paid $6000! Sooo thankful it worked out. Has anyone ever come out of surgery and been told they couldn't do the operation? It's one of my biggest fears and with surgery happening this Thursday, I'm so nervous. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

My doctor wasn't strict on the 2 week pre op diet. I still was supposed to get 800-1000 calories in with one of my meals being solid food. I did pretty good. Yesterday I had Soup for my Christmas dinner, but I did eat a peanut bar cookie thing, just 1. Now tomorrow starts my clear liquid diet and that's going to be a doozy but I only had to do that for 2 days. I'm just stressed and fearful about something going wrong. I've been waiting 2 years for this surgery. I just want everything to go well. My anxiety is just horrible these last couple of days. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
