    Question for women only

I had a very very heavy long cycle (like I've been bleeding 6 weeks now) and I had an IUD put in on the 26th to control the bleeding. Provera also works well short term. Just today it's finally getting better. There are options your doctor will let you know about. And yes my doctors said it was hormones trapped in fat that are being released. Most at risk are those of us who didn't have a cycle before surgery. It had been a year since I had one before surgery. I guess its making up for lost time. 3. My doc said 60-80. Anything more than that is used for building muscle mass. He said unless I'm planning on doing body building there's no need to take that much. Since I'm not, I'm just sticking to the 60-80 range. He still has me on that much protein and I'm 6 weeks post op. Just stick to your plan cause everyone in here does something different. Belching

I'm 6 weeks post op and still can't burp. It feels like I need to really bad but can't, it's annoying. Happens when I swallow too much or eat too fast. I hope it goes away eventually. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Pasta

I bought a veggie spiralizer and I love yellow squash and zucchini mix as my pasta. Plus my son loves helping me make it. I tried a bite of pasta on my husbands plate and ended up spitting it out. It was not the way I remembered it and I didn't care for it at all. Even the texture was off putting. I've made those mozzarella cheese noodles and they were super yummy. Just keep trying new things. I promise it's not worth eating. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Does your stomach growl?

I had the same thing and asked the doc what it was. It's louder when I haven't eaten in awhile or ate something my tummy is struggling to get down. He said it's not hunger but the sound of digestive juices. It's normal and loudest on an empty stomach. However, I do get hungry when I go too long without protein, especially when working out. I get tired super fast and sometimes even dizzy. So you are completely normal! I noticed it stopped making so many noises when I could eat solid foods again. 8. This is a rough time! During Christmas I was on my liver shrink diet, then New Years, my anniversary was last month, then Super Bowl and now Valentines! I go with my husband out to eat and Celebrate but there is no celebration anymore. The waitresses always ask if the food was bad because I only eat 5 bites, they constantly watch to see if I'm enjoying so I'm being watched on top of being full an hour before my husband. So I just sit there watching him gorge himself and not gain a pound (hate his metabolism). I feel uncomfortable and out of place to where the experience isn't enjoyable but he doesn't understand. I ask him to share his food so I don't feel awkward but he says he's hungry. Going out used to be the highlight of my day and now I'm left underwhelmed and bored. I tried to tell my husband we need to start doing other activities not surrounded around food but food is still a major part of his life. He's very supportive of me but I'm struggling to find common ground. What new activities do some of the vets do now that they didn't before to keep the peace? 11. I probably should mention my husband is in the military and INHALES his food. He's never been one for much discussion but before it wasn't as noticeable because I was inhaling my food as well. I played Trivia the whole time at Chili's today. I might mention we have been married 19 years and our lives and travels have revolved around food or wine. I need to connect with him and it's difficult because the one thing we shared a love for is gone. I guess movies would be a good option, but the smell of butter popcorn is a bit overwhelming for me right now. Thanks for the advice though. I need a hobby and then drag him to it. I was thinking boot camp training after my strength returns. He loves working out, me not so much. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

When were you cleared to workout

My doctor cleared me at 4 weeks, but be careful when you start and don't go crazy. I was so determined that I nearly killed myself with all the enthusiasm. I have to pace myself and sometimes need a snack in the middle of it or I get weak and tired. This is the start of my 6th week and I'm still trying to learn boundaries. I can walk for a couple miles fine but heavy cardio I still need breaks. Just find your pace and rhythm and you will do great! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  13. I'm 5 weeks out and I get hungry. Not to the point I'm dying or anything but if I go too long between Protein shakes I get dizzy and tired. I have carb cravings still now that I'm eating real food even though I'm eating less than 15 grams a day. I try to stay in keto but I've been ready for food since week 2 of surgery. I'm losing weight, so that's the important thing. I get really hungry when working out or walking long distances. Every one is different but this is my experience. 14. I had surgery 12-29 and I can't imagine having alcohol this early. I get bad indigestion and acid from some foods that I can't say what a sugary/acidic margarita would do. I'm afraid my stomach would hurt so bad. Good luck tonight and update us on how it went. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  15. It is so weird how different doctors require different things. My doctor said never crush a pill, only cut in half if really large. I was taking all my meds whole before I left the hospital. Never had any issues swallowing. That must have been so nasty crushing pills. Hoping you get the go ahead to take them whole at your follow up. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  16. I'm 5 weeks post op and nope, still love food. In fact, I still get disappointed when I can only eat 5 bites and I'm full. But I don't miss chocolate or sweets, or even Coke. I thought that was weird because I have a huge sweet tooth. In that sense, my love of food is gone. My hunger came back around week 4-5. Once I was hungry again the carb cravings came back. I'm a work in progress. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

  18. I'm 4 weeks post op and mine just started to fall out. I took Biotin 6 months before and I'm still taking it but sadly, I'm losing it. I also eat lots of Protein. I think it just happens for some people. My nails look great though so that's a plus. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  19. I have UHC and it was covered. It's done through your job. If they don't offer Bariatric surgery on their plan it won't matter who you call. My advice is to look through other insurance choices outside of the job and see if one fits better. I'm sorry they don't cover it that sucks. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Question about out of pocket

I have United Healthcare with a $6000 family max out of pocket and a $400 deductible. I had to meet the $6000 out of pocket max + $400 deductible before they would pay 100% for my surgery. After my out of pocket was met then they paid 80% and I paid 20% until that last $400 deductible was paid. I waited to have surgery until Dec 29th to have them pay 100% because I couldn't pay everything upfront. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  21. I did it the first 2 weeks, only twice. I wanted to crunch and have salty pretzels in my mouth! Omg it was glorious! Anywho, now that I'm eating food, I haven't craved anything bad enough or even thought about it until reading this post. I'm doing fine and it helped me get through my weakness. I'm in no way advocating it, but I'm alive and losing so I guess it's not the worst thing I could have done. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  22. I'm 24 days post op and just 2 days ago became regular. Took me eating lots of yogurt and a tiny bit of oatmeal for a couple of days. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  23. I'm sure others can provide detailed descriptions of the available procedures, but I can tell you why I personally chose the Gastric Sleeve. The Lapland is probably the least invasive surgery. However, I had issues with a foreign object being in my body and having a port just under my skin for Fluid insertion/deletion. There are many reports of the bands slipping, moving, or growing into the esophagus (which required additional surgeries and varied results) that I did not want to go through that possible trouble. Bypass is the most invasive operation. It's almost just like the Sleeve but the amount of nutrients your body can absorb is decreased. I did not like this because I want what my body needs to be absorbed from what I eat. With the sleeve, you eventually will not need a Protein supplement or additional Vitamins to sustain yourself. Bypass patients will always need the extra bit of nutrition. So I chose the Sleeve. It's the middle choice as far as invasive operations go. Half of my stomach was removed and I can only eat 3-4 oz. of food at a time. I don't have to worry about filling bands. However, huge sacrifices in the types of foods I choose to eat have to be made. If I eat something with too much fat or sugar, I'm very ill with something similar to "dumping " seen in bypass patients. Horrible sweats, diarrhea, and vomiting can follow. However, with the band you can still eat those foods without the fear of "dumping". I needed something that severe to keep me on track and from making poor decisions because I'm not a strong person where food is concerned. Plus I only need to lose 100 pounds. I'm not sure your BMI or anything but Bypass is recommended for people who have 100+ pounds to lose (according to my doc). Really what you choose is very personal and depends on what you feel comfortable with. I chose the Sleeve and couldn't be happier. Good luck! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Autoimmune disorders and wls

Luckily, nothing yet. I thought on day 2-3 I was in a flare but I later learned that was actually just pain related to the actual surgery itself. It caused some joint pain but it went away by day 4-5. My doc also had me coming in every 2 weeks to monitor any changes. Apparently having a full blown flare after surgery can be BAD BAD BAD. So far so good though. Didn't even need my pain pills after the 5th day. Best decision of my life! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Liver Shrink diet

I'm 3 weeks post op now, in the puréed stage of my diet. I will kind of be honest with regards to boredom of foods. You need to prepare yourself to be bored with food after the first few weeks of surgery. You will only be able to eat a few things, and you are lucky if those are things you enjoy eating. During this time, try finding liquids you enjoy and plan on eating those for days at a time. During the first 2 weeks there aren't many options. I found eating the broth from a Vietnamese restaurant was way better than broth from a box or can. I had planned on Jello after surgery because I enjoy it, but even the sugar free caused me to have dumping. The Protein shakes were too thick and didn't settle well on my stomach so I chose GENEPRO as a protein replacement because it's unflavored and can be mixed in anything. Try to prepare for boredom because I wasn't and it hit me hard. I'm doing as little carbs as possible (keto diet) so I cut all carbs from my diet during my liver shrink diet. I had tons of grilled chicken and veggies, spinach and chicken salads (chick filet has amazing salads), lean beef kabobs, and tuna salad. I also tried many egg dishes because that's my go to protein with avocado for breakfasts. If I craved carbs I would eat protein. I don't know why but it helped. Also jello with whip cream was amazing before surgery when I could still eat it. I've not craved carbs or Coke one time since surgery and I think it's because I already went through those struggles during pre-op. Good luck and I hope that helps some.
