"Lord give me patience and HURRY IT UP!" I have know idea who said that but the phrase stuck with me. Lol. I'm waiting not so patiently to get the call that I'm approved and can schedule a surgery date!! In the meantime, I get on here to read the good, the bad, the ugly and mostly to see all of your before and after pics! After tonight's reading about someone's dreaded stall, a thought sparked. How often should we way ourselves? I know when I did weight watchers (all 700 times) I was told to way once a week. Is it hard not to become obsessed with the scale? Also, another question. Any veterans on here? I understand most people keep their weight off 1 year, what 3 years? 5 years? I know, I know, I know it's different for everyone and it depends on the lifestyle CHANGE. As much excited as I am for positive, healthy changes in my future, I have a little spec of worry that I might fail just like all my previous attempts. Scared and nervous about surgery, need some support
Sparkles21 replied to lenab022's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm having the bypass on March 16th. I've had many of those same fears. As of today, my only fear is that I chose the best surgery for me. I work in Healthcare and have had a lot of opinions offered to me that I should do the sleeve instead. Anyway, you have 3 more months to let this absorb. You should consider getting 1 on 1 counseling to work with your addiction. The surgery will help you lose weight but not forget if you don't change your habits in the meantime. (I'm speaking to myself too!) As for your child, I think you should cook what you can eat for dinner. Get him in the habit of not having grains so often. He can have whole grain toast or cereal for breakfast. To me, I'm not forcing my husband or 5 boys to change, but I'm encouraging healthier eating habits and only cooking ONE meal for dinner! My kids have actually expressed appreciation! Good luck! -

I thought I would be having surgery in jan. I finally got my surgery date today and it's March 16th. Way farther out than I hoped but I was going crazy waiting day by day! I kept calling the clinic everyday, I bet she finally worked on my case just to get me off her back! Lol I tried not to be annoying! Now, to get through a whole more month! Looking for alternatives to soda
Sparkles21 replied to Robin Weinrich's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If crystal light isn't hitting the spot, try infusing fruit or herbs in your Water. In the summer time, I squeeze fresh lemon (if I'm out, I'll use lemon juice in the bottle) and sprinkle in a little Splenda! (Last summer, it was my fresh squeezed lemonade with a shot of American Honey whiskey...I guess this summer I'll hold the whiskey!! Sent from my SM-G930V using the BariatricPal App -

CIGNA - supervised diet requirement
Sparkles21 replied to nightcheese's topic in Insurance & Financing
I have cigna and went through the nutrition office that knew all the requirements (everything you've stated). You can use your pcp but he needs to state everything cigna requires and it has to be with the last 12 months. I'm waiting on my approval now! Everything was submitted on mon of this week. So nervous, anxious, excited, impatient!! Sent from my SM-G930V using the BariatricPal App -
Honestly a lot of people are feeling just as self conscious. You are your own worst critic. I don't remember who said this but here are some great quotes: "It's none of your business what others think of you" "A slow half mile is still a half mile. Getting off the couch starts with one foot in front of the other". Sent from my SM-G930V using the BariatricPal App

How to deal with Coworkers knowing you're getting this surgery! Tell or not to tell?
Sparkles21 replied to julia454's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I told my coworkers about it. Most at first were not supportive. I explained why and some have given me their support. I also work in the medical field so people are going to start questioning me once they notice a change. I figured I'll just say it like it is rather than try to hide it. It's my choice and my consequences rather good or bad not theirs. I don't have a surgery date yet, waiting on insurance approval!! Sent from my SM-G930V using the BariatricPal App -
How many lbs did you lose your first month?
Sparkles21 replied to michellee323's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm 35, 5'2 and 220lb. I had my consult on tue. My doc makes you go through all the NUT counciling, psych eval and everything your insurance requires before you get the consult. I am hoping they have already submitted my stuff to the ins. They told me to plan on anywhere from 3 to 5 weeks. I'm so anxious! What surgery are you having? I'm having the RNY. Yay! Congrats to you! I have my first consult with the surgeon on the 10th. I'm hoping surgery will follow soon after. I've done all nutritional counciling and psych evaluation. Good luck to you and hopefully I'm right behind ya! Sent from my SM-G930V using the BariatricPal App

Has anyone gained weight intentionally to qaulify for surgery? I've done nutritional counseling, had my psychiatric evaluation and finally go meet the surgeon next month. Originally I thought I would qualify with a 35 BMI and 2 co morbidities. It turns out I don't have sleep apnea although it was highly suspected. So I stuffed my pockets full of batteries, wore the heaviest jewelry I own and a few other things to get my weight up so I would hit the bmi of 40. This is stupid, trying to gain weight! The past few months I've allowed myself to eat whatever I want. I feel disgusting and hardly recognize myself. I keep reminding myself of my ultimate goal. My worry is that now instead of getting mentally prepared for the lifestyle changes, I've just gotten myself further addicted to food and sugar. Has anyone been there, done that? I know it's going to be hell the first week or two just detoxing from all of the poison (candy) I've been stuffing my face with. Is there anything that helps so I won't cave? Thanks in advance! Gained weight on purpose?
Sparkles21 replied to Sparkles21's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
One of the biggest reasons I want the surgery is for "the tool" I am very active in sports and fitness but due to all the weight it takes a huge toll on me physically. I think my physical fitness is what keeps my blood pressure down. I am excited to turn a new leaf and gain control. I'm hoping to have surg in jan, as I finally meet with the surgeon Sent from my SM-G930V using the BariatricPal App -

Gained weight on purpose?
Sparkles21 replied to Sparkles21's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Let me explain better. For the past 2 years I've continued to gain weight. I'm very active and suffer multiple problems from the extra pounds. My bmi is a 40 but when I first started going to the bariatric doc my bmi was 38. So yes, I weighted my pockets down to get the weight up on the scale that day. However, my weight is steadily climbing. I just want to get the help now before my body suffers any further problems. I'm in my 30s and where I'm on the lower end of the scale, I'm still morbidly obese and need to make changes NOW so I can be around for my family. I do appreciate all your concern. Per your insurance. I have cigna and thankfully they only require the 90 days. Actually its 4 visits in at least 89 days. Most of the people I've talked to had to wait 6 months. Crappy but in the length of your life it's not too bad. And trust me, I'm very impatient! Sent from my SM-G930V using the BariatricPal App -

It all depends on your insurance. I would call or get online (in your bcbs account) and find the EXACT requirements. Likely, you'll have to have a BMI of 35, with 2 co morbidities or a bmi of 40 or more. 6 months of a supervised diet, a psychiatric evaluation, and be medically cleared for surgery.
