When did you start your vitamins?
FindingCarrie replied to sally628's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I started taking bariatric Vitamins the month before surgery. Then I had to stop them the week before, per the hospital's instruction, and i also could not take them until after my 1 week post op appointment with my surgeon. So basically, I had to stop them for 2 weeks before starting up again, but I did start taking them pre-op. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App -
Medications post surgery
FindingCarrie replied to sleevinpops's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was taking small pills 1 day post op in the hospital, per my doctor. I had to find alternatives for bigger pills. Also, I already was taking liquid Vitamins, but I was told not to take them until after I had my one week follow up appointment with my surgeon. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App -
Sonic and straws
FindingCarrie replied to crazywomanincage's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have been using a straw with my morning Protein drink because I make it in my blender, and drink it on the way to work. The only cup I have that works well for this is one with a straw. I can say that I do notice a difference when drinking with a straw. I have to take it a lot slower than just drinking from a glass. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App -
Just had to share my happy today!
FindingCarrie replied to Hoping052017's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I have been having a nagging kind of pain on the left side of my chest when I took deep breaths ever since my surgery on 1/17. Today...no more pain. May have been gas pain, or maybe muscular, but either way, glad it is finally gone! Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App -
@"Malin", I was considering Orbera also. I came to the same conclusion as you. Why spend all that money for a 6 month temporary solution! Fortunately, my insurance paid for my VSG, which also made my choice easier to make. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

How will meals change
FindingCarrie replied to chunkymonkey123's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have 3 meals and 2 to 3 Snacks per day. However, these snacks are not the bags of chips, candy bars or other garbage I would typically snack on. Now my snacks are 2 oz of cottage cheese, or 2 oz of yogurt...things like that. My meals right now are cooked veggies, but I have not progressed to meat yet. I pretty much time every meal and snack and force myself to eat around the same time because I am actually not hungry at all since surgery. I eat only to meet my Protein goals right now, not because I am hungry. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App -
My Surgery and a Series of Unfortunate Events
FindingCarrie replied to orionburn's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
@"Soviv", what were your symptoms that brought you back to your doctor to determine that you had a hematoma? Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App -
Are you sure it is actual hunger. Stomach acid can mimic the feeling of hunger. Your doctor can prescribe medication to help with that. Also, my doctor prescribed Levsin, which actually helps with esophagus and stomach spasms. I only used it for the first few days post surgery, but I did notice that those spasms also mimicked the feeling of hunger. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

Returning to work
FindingCarrie replied to vegas_mimi's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@"Charisma", I am hoping to lose about 110 lbs, so we are right in the same ballpark with our weight loss goals. I lost 7 lbs in the first week post op, and 11 lbs during the one week liquid pre-op. In this second week post op, I only lost 3 lbs, but I am not complaining. Doing god so far. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App -
Returning to work
FindingCarrie replied to vegas_mimi's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@"Charisma", I was sleeved on 1/17, and I told my husband 3 days after that I didn't think the doctor took out any of my stomach because I had absolutely no problems drinking, or taking any of my pill medications. Then i started my soft food stage, and BAM! There was the restriction I had read so much about. I can only fit about 2oz of cottage cheese, yogurt, or anything really right now. I assume this is going to get even tougher as I progress in to more dense foods, but I was so happy to finally feel that restriction. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App -
I am just at 2 weeks right now, and my doctor does not do a purée stage, so I am currently eating cottage cheese, yogurt, applesauce, well cooked veggies (soft enough to smash with your fork). In about 5 days I get to add eggs and well cooked Beans. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

I think it will depend on what post op eating pan your doctor has you on, and how well your recovery is going. I have learned that different doctors follow so may different plans. I am 2 weeks post op right now, and i am able to eat yogurt, cottage chees, applesauce and well cooked veggies. By 3 weeks, I will be adding eggs and Beans. However, there are other doctors that have you on 2 weeks of liquids after post op, so that can be tough. Since I have so much variety right now, I find that the tougher part to explain when people don't know I had surgery, is that I can only fit about 2oz and then I am full. In my case, I have pretty much told everybody, but with the variety that I am able to eat right now, I could easily tell people that I am eating all veggies right now as some sort of cleanse, and just cutting out meat for a while. Traveling after surgery
FindingCarrie replied to bekah7482's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I wouldn't buy your tickets until you know how you are feeling afterwards, just in case. If you have a tough recovery, you may not want to go. However, if everything goes smoothly, you should have no problem at 3 months post op. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App -
Going back to work - 10 hour shifts
FindingCarrie replied to saritamontoya's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I work 10 hour days, mostly behind a desk, and I went back after one week. Those first few days were tough, but I was getting stir crazy at home, so I had to go back for my own sanity! Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App -
Traveling after surgery
FindingCarrie replied to bekah7482's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I will be traveling a month after surgery, and I think i will have no problem. It will depend on how your recovery goes, but I don't think you will have any problems. My doctor said 4 to 6 weeks after should be fine. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App -
Painful injections? Any advice?
FindingCarrie replied to yasmeenelmajed's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I have heard that icing the area for a few minutes first may help with the pain. I never tried it though. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App -
How long being swollen?
FindingCarrie replied to Just Rob's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am 2 weeks out from the VSG, and my stomach is still swollen. There are times when it is not so bad, but almost always still swollen. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App -
Dr Matthew Weiner's Pound of Cure diet
FindingCarrie replied to GinaCampbell's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I had my sleeve done by Dr. Weiner's partner Dr. Scott Laker. He is also phenomenal! Dr. Weiner checked in on me the day after my surgery, and he was wonderful about answering all of my questions, and really taking a genuine interest in my situation, even though I wasn't his patient. He and Dr. Laker really work well together, and follow the same approach from a nutrition perspective. For anyone in Michigan looking to undergo WLS, I would highly recommend both Dr. Weiner and Dr. Laker. They, and their staff are really great about ensuring that you have all of the tools that you need to be successful. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App -

I went back to work yesterday, and made it through ok. Today was a bit tougher. Physically I don't have a ton of energy, and I am still sore. Wearing actual "work" clothes is difficult because my pants rub on my incisions, and my bra rubs on the one near the breast bone. It is just uncomfortable all around. I would say that going back to a desk job is doable after 1 week, but I think it is best to stay out at least 2 weeks if you can. The good news is that I still have not really had any complications. I am getting in all of my liquids, and Protein, and I am actually averaging about 500 - 600 calories a day already. I have lost 11lbs in the one week pre-op before the surgery, and 7lbs since the surgery. I was not going to weigh myself, but I had to at my one week follow up appointment. I have decided that I want to only weigh myself once per month so I don't drive myself crazy with stalls and whatever may happen on a day to day basis. Attached is a picture of how my incisions are coming along 9 days out.

How many calories during Phase 1 & 2?
FindingCarrie replied to Sleeved_G's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
When I was just doing Water and Protein drinks I was around 300 calories. Now that I have moved on to soft foods, I average between 500 & 600 calories. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
