TXhoney1964 replied to MonSoleil98's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hello everyone, I live in east texas and I am close to Tyler to the Nacogdoches area. Any local bandsters in this area? Would anyone like to meet and share stories? It would be great to have some "local support" But this is great too being able to come here and read about others that are where i am. Thanks to all of You. -
Anyone used Dr. Maese for fills?
TXhoney1964 replied to islandmom's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I went to Dr. Maese for my 2nd origional consult(after i was approved by BC/BS) Dr. Robert Powell was my surgeon but I didn't go back to him after my follow up visit. I started going back to Dr. Maese's office in Ferris 140 mile trip 1 way,and I hate driving in Dallas. Yes he wants you to come back every 3 weeks which i don't do because I personally have to get used to each fill first. I am currently filled with 7cc's which he said that the band will hold only 9cc's. So i am really restricted and I do definetly feel it. I happen to like Dr. Maese because my wait is not long and all the equipment is all right there, you don't have to go here and there to get everything done. He is a cardiologist and that makes me feel somewhat confident. He has so many patients that he does not have time to socialize but hey thats ok for me. Of course I don't like his old scales but thats what he has in his office. I wish all of you the best of luck, Have great day. -
A thread for super-sized bandsters - starting BMI over 50?
TXhoney1964 replied to Wheetsin's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Good Morning Everyone, I have been reading all these posts about us supersized folks. I feel better now, I had my Surgery on Dec.20th,2005 ( what a day to have it, 4 days before our xmas gathering, lol) I started out at 336 pounds,I have always said I was 5'8 but the dr's office said I am 5'6.5. So My BMI started out at 54.2. I have had 3 fills already and am currently filled with 7cc's. I have lost 34 Lbs in a little over 5 months, which makes me a slow loser.(current BMI 48.7) I have lost 27 inches(my mom is a seamstress and measures me when i think about it). I am a very busy person and i do go work out at the gym( haven't been in over a week cause I have not had time, but i have been busy mowing and cleaning the yard). I love this time of year cause i can get outside. I have been discouraged cause when i seem to work at losing so hard my weight just sits there.Seems its laughing at me saying HA HA keep on.Like a little devil. I know being as big as I am( largest was 370) I do feel much better and my clothes are very loose. I know its getting there but i am just a slow one. I want to thank all of you for makeing me realize that I am doing Good. Have a GREAT DAY EVERYONE!!! -
Well on my diabetic meds, I only take pills, I have been a nurse for 23 years and my Dr. and I have discussed the taking of my medicine. My blood sugar bottomed out because i am taking in ALOT less calories than i was, so i take my meds when i need it and so far i haven't needed it. My Dr. trusts me on this because i know my body and what is going on. I had my 2 week check up on the 3rd. and i am going to set up my first fill for about 2 weeks from now. Dr. Powell in dallas did my surgery, but i was referred by Dr. Fred Maese and i will be going back to Dr. Maese because he does the fills in his office and is easier for me since i live 140 miles from dallas. Good luck to yall and i hope that its as easy for you as it has been for me. I am starting the gym friday and i can't wait.

I had my surgery on Dec. 20th, i was taken to xray for the barium while i was in the recovery room, and it was only a sip of the barium. I am also a diabetic, which i have not taken my medicine but once since surgery but i keep a daily check on my sugar levels. I had my 2 week follow up yesterday and I have lost 16 lbs. YEA!!! and i get to start at the gym now. I have had absolutely NO nausea, dry heaves, or vomiting since the surgery. Just remember drink and eat slow and stop when u start to fill full. Chew Chew Chew.
