Not sure what to do... maybe it's a sign
AGreenEyedWolf replied to AGreenEyedWolf's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well... I guess I'm going to drive myself. The friend I mentioned whose house my husband doesn't want my son to stay overnight at is going to drive my husband and son to the hospital Wednesday afternoon to visit me and pick up our vehicle. I'm now super nervous wondering if all my weight loss (down 12 pounds in 10 days) is a sign that I can lose weight without surgery... wondering if stiff keeps going wrong because I'm not supposed to have the surgery... I'm totally psyching myself out, and I know it... but it's SO hard not to be nervous and anxious. It is hitting me hard that the day after tomorrow at this time I'll be getting wheeled into an OR and having 80% of my stomach taken out. Frankly, I'm TERRIFIED. Not sure what to do... maybe it's a sign
AGreenEyedWolf replied to AGreenEyedWolf's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
He has no friends whose parents I know well enough to ask... plus to be honest... he is such a homebody he doesn't even like to spend the night away from home... like in 8 years he has slept at his grandma's house once and twice at that friends house I mentioned (where my husband won't let him go overnight anymore)... he hates sleeping away from home :-( I talked it over with my husband... he wants to let Michael stay home from school (I do not want him to have any unexcused absences) and he wants to talk the hospital into letting our son into pre-op (which I will not allow) or to stay in the waiting room with him (which I'm sorry... that's a waste of time and it's too much to ask of an 8 year old to sit in a waiting room where he has to be quiet for 6 to 8 hours, so I also won't allow that). I guess I will try to get someone to drive me there and drop me off... if that fails I will ask around for someone to give my husband a ride to the hospital Wednesday after my son gets home from school, and if I find someone willing to do that, I will drive myself. If I cannot find either of those things, I will cancel. Time to go make a couple of phone calls I guess. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using the BariatricPal App -
Not sure what to do... maybe it's a sign
AGreenEyedWolf replied to AGreenEyedWolf's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Even if I keep him home for a day... There's no way my husband (with a brain condition) can handle an 8 year old (with ADHD) cooped up in a waiting room for several hours, especially when both he and the child had to get up at 4 am... the best I could do is get them to drop me off at the hospital and tgen come back and send our son to school on a lot less sleep than usual, or get my one nearby friend to take me to the hospital and drop me off then come back to make sure my son gets on the bus... and no matter what, I (with bipolar disorder and anxiety) would then be facing 3 or more hours of pre-op all alone with no support. (Ugh) Well, I guess it's time to get my husband up and talk to him about all this so I can make some kind of decision. (That's the other drawback... thanks to his condition, my husband's normal sleep schedule is to go to bed between 3 and 5 am and get up between 3 and 6 pm)... ugh... this just couldn't be east and go off without a hitch, huh? Liver reduction diet questions!
AGreenEyedWolf replied to Yvette804's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I admit it... I have cheated on the diet. Not a lot and not every day but some days I just couldn't seem to feel satisfied, so I had extra veggies with my meal one day... one day I ate 2 meals and only 3 shakes instead of 1 meal and 4 shakes... one day I ate a trail mix fruit & nut bar and twice I had 2 squares of a Hershey's bar in between meals. On the bright side, my doctor already told me my liver is pretty small... but on the other hand I'm scared that if I can't be 100% committed pre-op, how am I going to keep from regaining weight after I recover from surgery? I'm trying really hard to stick to the diet 100% today and tomorrow, because Tuesday I'm on Clear liquids only after lunch since surgery is the next day. Just had my pre-op surgeon meeting... I've got 7 more days till surgery. I got here so apprehensive that I was almost in tears... I kept thinking things like, will I ever enjoy eating again? Will I ever be able to have lunch out with friends again? Will I be so miserable I regret the surgery? Am I a failure because I have to resort to surgery to lose weight? How will my husband and son (and my pets) handle a couple days without me while I'm hospitalized? Am I going to have complications? Is this all worth it? Do I really want to give up sweets, Snacks, steaks, sodas, etc... FOREVER?? After talking to my surgeon, nurse, and nutritionist... I do feel a little better... but I admit I'm struggling... anyone else having these feelings too? Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using the BariatricPal App

Another step closer
AGreenEyedWolf replied to AGreenEyedWolf's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Reneekay, I know what you mean... there are many reasons for me to lose weight... I need my health to improve, I need to weigh less in order to be more active for my children and grandchildren, I want to live longer, and God knows I want to feel better about myself and change the way people think about me when they look at me. But I still can't help thinking that I already REALLY miss eating things I enjoy... and that I'll never again for the rest of my life eat more than 2 to 3 bites of food at a time, which really doesn't sound very enjoyable... and asking myself: do I really want to give up the food I enjoy so much in exchange for being miserable and in pain for who knows how long and never again being able to enjoy more than a couple bites of food? I'll be honest... today is Sunday and my surgery is scheduled for Wednesday and I'm still completely terrified that either way I'll be choosing wrong. Low BMI sleeve and weight loss
AGreenEyedWolf replied to Mrdavern's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had the same issue... my doctor was afraid I'd lose too much on the pre-op diet so instead of 1100 calories a day they told me to do 1300 calories a day because the purpose of the diet is to shrink my luver, not lower my weight drastically. I still lost 10 pounds, but I'm still able to have the surgery in a few days :-) Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using the BariatricPal App -

I've hated every brand and every flavor I've tried... but Premier chocolate (though I hated it at first) has grown on me and now it's the only one I will use. I'm going to have a hard time after surgery, though... can't use straws then, and right now I have to use one to drink it so it doesn't touch much of my tongue. The other flavors of Premier I don't care for... the new caramel is specifically gross IMO Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using the BariatricPal App

Yes indeed... I surely do... to prepare for surgery, I went from smoking to vaping in November... and since then have lowered my vaping nicotine to just 3mg liquids... vaping so infrequently that I don't imagine I'll be doing it at all past the weekend... and then gave up soda in December and now the liver shrinking diet so I've given up carbs and a LOT of sugar. I've had headaches, nausea and more from detoxing. If I went through all this only to get cancelled before surgery on Wednesday I'll be VERY upset. 4 days post op-No bowel movements

Wow. I hope I don't have this issue, my doctor won't release patients to go home after surgery unless they can pass gas, urinate, and have a BM Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using the BariatricPal App -
Serious & Looking for Mentor But Need Someone Open-minded.
AGreenEyedWolf replied to Beck90's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I can't be a mentor, because I haven't been through surgery yet... but it sounds like we have a lot in common and could be friends... I'm a "to the beat if my own drum" person, too... I also have bipolar disorder... I am also an animal lover (right now I have 2 dogs, 5 cats and 2 sugar gliders). I'm not judgemental, and I love scrapbooking. I also love studying medicine especially psychology... and I have an AA and also an AS in Network Administration but I freelance as a website builder. I'd love to be a published author one day as well... and I live in Florida now... but I used to live on the IL/IN border too (Martinsville, IL) and still have friends and family in that area and also in and around Bridgeton, Terre Haute and Brazil, IN. Feel free to contact me via PM and maybe we can talk more :-) Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using the BariatricPal App -

Different scales = different weights
AGreenEyedWolf posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm so confused... the scales at every doctors office I go to are so different that I can't tell if I'm losing, gaining, or staying the same! Family doctor: 216 Week later at bariatric clinic: 206 3 weeks later at Psych doctor: 220 1 week later Pre-op hospital testing: 220 5 days later at bariatric clinic: 209 Seriously?? My bariatric doctor says just go by their scale... but WHY are most places all weighing me so differently? Another thing: Why does my bariatric doctor measure my height at 5' 4" (which I thought I had been since I was 15) but the hospital measures me at 5' 3" and at home I measure 5' 2.5"?? Why do some.plaves measure with shoes on and others with shoes off?? So frustrating! Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using the BariatricPal App -
Different scales = different weights
AGreenEyedWolf replied to AGreenEyedWolf's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
After my appointment with my surgeon today, I went back over to the pre-op Surgery Center that I was at last Thursday. That was the day before I started my liver shrinking diet. I weighed myself on the exact same scale they weighed me on last week and learned that I have lost 3 pounds in 4 days on the liver shrinking diet. I couldn't tell that at my surgeon's office because I've only been weighed on that scale twice... once in early November and once today... And I know between the time I was there in early November up to last week, I know for a fact I was eating more than I should have been because I was on this kick of "so I better enjoy some food before I can't eat anything after surgery." 45...preop, would you wait?
AGreenEyedWolf replied to MaggieH2's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I'm on the fence. I think on the one hand that you shouldn't be on a cruise that soon post op in case of complications... but on the other hand, doing something like the cruise with so many great, not day-to-day "normal" things to do to take your mind of of your head hunger might be a good thing. I suggest asking your surgeon for his opinion :-) Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using the BariatricPal App -

Well meaning, but misguided spouse.
AGreenEyedWolf replied to Gary Bentz's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm 9 days pre-op and my husband just keeps saying things like "I hope it (the surgery) makes you happy" and "don't be doing it (the surgery) for me" and still expects me to not only cook dinner for him and our son every night, but gets kind of offended when I eat my one, tiny, pre-op diet allowed meal BEFORE they sit down to eat dinner and doesn't seem to understand why I won't sit down with them anymore and watch them eat delicious things I can't have that was extremely hard for me to even cook for then in the first place. When I say I don't want to watch them eat what I can't have he gets kind of upset... like he gets a, "oh, Jesus... is this how it's going to be from now on?" attitude... it's NOT easy :-( Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using the BariatricPal App -
Liver reduction diet questions!
AGreenEyedWolf replied to Yvette804's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I'm on day 4 of my liver shrinking diet, with 8 days left to go... the first 2 days were the hardest, but it's no cake walk now either. I'm only allowed 4 Protein shakes or bars and 1 protein rich/low carb meal a day, all of which has to total less than 1300 calories a day, and I have to spread it out every 3 hours from 730-730 daily. I can't lie... the shakes and bars are absolutely disgusting, which makes drinking and eating them VERY difficult for me... and I'm awake until between 10 and 11 every night... so not having anything but Water after 730 every evening when I'm used to snacking right up till bedtime is hard, too. I've been struggling with this diet and worrying that after surgery I'll be miserable, in pain, and not only unable to satisfy my head hunger (like I feel now) but also worrying that I'll physically be unable to stop feeling actually hungry and unable to stay hydrated because of the restrictions I'll be under then.
