Why did I not know that bariatric patients had issues with their teeth? Is this common? Sent from my SM-G970U using BariatricPal mobile app

I am 2.5 years out from gastric bypass. I had lost 100 lbs but have gained about 15 back. In November my blood sugar started dropping out of nowhere. I have seen my both my gastric doctor and my pcp and they both tell me to cut carbs and eat every two hours. Those are both ok but I have found that if I eat some carbs along with protein I have many less episodes which is great except I'm scared I'm going to gain. Anyone with experience or advice on this? I have an apt with a endocrinologist that specializes in bariatric patients but it is not until November. Sent from my SM-J700T using BariatricPal mobile app

I am attempting to re-set my pouch. I'm 2.5 years out and I gained 20 lbs the last 8 months. Should I stick to premier protein and water or make myself a trim healthy mama protein shake with okra? Sent from my SM-G970U using BariatricPal mobile app

You are doing better than me. I ate a sandwich last night and coffee and a salad today. But the only other thing I have had the last 48 hours is protein shakes and water. Great job! Sent from my SM-G970U using BariatricPal mobile app

Hardest part was my hormones for the first year. I felt sad after the weight dropped off so fast. But the hardest part now is maintenance, I have gained 15 lbs back my second year after surgery. Definitely not the easy way out of weight loss. SW: 230 LW: 130 and goal weight CW: 145 Sent from my SM-G970U using BariatricPal mobile app

About to have lap band surgery—I have a couple ?? About drinking?

I'm confused, if it doesn't prohibit you from drinking like that what does it do? Does it prohibit food consumption only? Sent from my SM-J700T using BariatricPal mobile app -
I am so sorry to read this. I understand your feelings so well. I was there, I mourned the loss of food. Weight loss surgery forces you to deal with the issues that you were using food to deal with. I suggest therapy or a support group. You are not alone and the emotional toll is a hard one. Hang in there and try to make new healthy habits while you are being forced to change anyway. anyone NOT go back to drinking coffee?
Jessibird replied to KCgirl061's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I should mention I spent 4 days in the hospital and missed more than 2 weeks of work for the ruptured ulcer. It was on a seam and leaked into my system. Sent from my SM-J700T using BariatricPal mobile app -
anyone NOT go back to drinking coffee?
Jessibird replied to KCgirl061's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I had an ulcer I didn't know about and I was drinking coffee every morning with premier protein for sweetener and creamer and tea in the afternoon. The caffeine caused the ulcer to rupture. So I switched to decaf. Now if I ever drink real coffee my arms get all funny and I feel like my heart is racing. Sent from my SM-J700T using BariatricPal mobile app -
How'd you know you had an ulcer?
Jessibird replied to Sprinkles1's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I wish I could tell you. I didn't know I had an ulcer until it ruptured. But the pain eating and drinking is a good sign. Ask your Dr if you should take carafate. It helped me so much. Sent from my SM-J700T using BariatricPal mobile app -
Had my bypass done in dec 16. I have done awesome! I quit everything I was supposed to. I take my vitamins and drink my protein. 130 is my ideal weight and I had stayed there for several months. I had an ulcer and didn't know it so I spent a week in the hospital in Feb. I left the hospital at 127. Took me March and April to get back to 130 (I wasn't trying to gain I was just ok with it). I have struggled a bit with alcohol so I cut it out completely. And gain 3 lbs in a week!!! I'm sad, what am I going to do now that I'm really healthy, no ulcer, no alcohol, I gain??!!! I know that foods gave snuck back in and my brain knows what I need to do but why does it have to be so damn hard??!? Sent from my SM-J700T using BariatricPal mobile app

Thanks! I will do just that. I just needed a little perspective I guess. Sent from my SM-J700T using BariatricPal mobile app -
Are you feeling any better today? It seemed like I went from bad to so much better overnight. I also remember the pain medicine didn't do anything for the gas pain. Sent from my SM-J700T using BariatricPal mobile app

Anyone ever have a perforated ulcer and have to have emergency surgery? I did this week. Crazy experience and I have been in the hospital all week. I didn't even know I had an ulcer. Very painful! Sent from my SM-J700T using BariatricPal mobile app

Careful drinking Gatorade it has sugar. The shoulder pain is the gas they use to raise your organs out of the way to do your surgery. Mine hurt so bad, I remember it clearly. Walking is the only thing that helped it go away. My husband would massage my back and shoulders too. It would help for a minute then it came right back. I don't tolerate any kind of cake or muffin very well. It just feels weird going down and the sugar makes me sick. A very small bite or two will remind me I really don't want it I just think I do. It does get easier. The only thing I really crave anymore that I can't have is soda. I am a year out and I really want a soda so I don't dare take a single sip. I was worried about the big carafate pill. I have only tolerated small pills but the liquid carafate taste awful. The pill wasn't too bad. I didn't go down easy but it did seem to dissolve pretty quickly so it didn't really get stuck. I just need to make sure I am taking it with lots of water.
